When I opened my eyes, the harsh white light made me instinctively raise my hand to shield them. The dense needle marks covering my arm served as a brutal reminder of the forced blood extraction.
"Sienna! You're finally awake!"
Lucien was the first to rush to my bedside, his usually tender eyes brimming with "concern." He reached out to touch my face, but I instinctively turned away.
"Sorry we were too late." Caleb's voice dripped with honeyed gentleness. "Derek went way too far! How could he force you to donate blood like that?"
Raven handed me a glass of warm water. "Get some rest. We're going to settle this with Derek right now."
I watched their pathetic performance, my throat burning with dryness.
I knew this scene all too well. In my past life, whenever Derek gave me the cold shoulder, these three would appear without fail, filling my emptiness with sweet lies.
And then what? Then they'd find excuses to leave, rushing off to comfort their true white moonlight.
"Don't bother." My voice came out hoarse. "I want to be alone."
The three exchanged glances. Lucien stood first. "Alright, rest up then. We'll... we'll be right back."
They left in such a hurry they didn't even close the door properly. I stared at that gap, catching fragments of their hushed conversation in the hallway:
"Is Rachel awake yet?"
"Derek's standing guard, won't let anyone in..."
"Let's grab those pastries from her favorite shop first..."
The moment the door clicked shut, I laughed until tears came.
I was so tired. Too tired to even find the strength to expose their lies.
The next few days passed with me lying alone in that hospital bed.
Every time the nurse came to change my bandages, she'd look at me with words unspoken, finally settling for a heavy sigh.
"Miss, your friends didn't come again today?"
I shook my head, my gaze falling on the wilting lilies at my bedside. Lucien had brought them three days ago. The petals were already yellowing and curling at the edges, just like their hollow concern.
My phone buzzed. A message from Caleb: [Sienna, emergency at the company. We have to fly overseas. Already arranged the best caregiver for you. Don't worry.]
Then Raven: [Little princess, we'll bring you presents when we get back!]
Finally Lucien: [Focus on healing. When we return, I'll take you to that French restaurant you love.]
I tossed my phone aside. I didn't care whether they came or not.
What I couldn't stand was how the caregiver they'd hired was utterly incompetent. Scalding water splashed on my hands, blood backflow went unnoticed, and bandage changes felt like torture...
Instead of healing, I ended up with fresh burns and bruises covering my body.
"I'm checking out."
I'd finally had enough and discharged myself against medical advice.
Meanwhile, Lucien, Caleb, and Raven wrapped up their so-called business emergency and came to pick me up.
As we passed the VIP ward, gentle voices drifted through a half-open door.
"Just one more sip, hmm?" Derek's voice was low and indulgent. "The doctor says you need more nutrition."
I froze. Through the crack, I saw Derek carefully spoon-feeding Rachel soup, his long fingers handling the spoon with movements so gentle he might have been tending to fragile treasure.
"CEO Derek hasn't left that young lady's side for days," a passing nurse whispered. "He even postponed company meetings. Such devotion."
My fingers unconsciously tightened around my clothes.
"Sienna..." Lucien immediately stepped forward, his handsome face painted with sympathy. "Don't be sad. Derek's blind, but we care about you."
"Exactly," Caleb's voice remained gentle. "At the birthday party, you can choose one of us three."
Raven chimed in: "We'll treat you right."
I smiled softly, but my eyes turned cold as ice. "I don't want to choose."
I slowly lifted my gaze, enunciating each word: "All four of you—I don't want any of you."
