After a while, Sophie noticed that someone over there was looking a lot in her direction, but Hurley did not seem to be paying any attention at all.
Sophie nudged Hurley, "Hurley... wakeup, somebody..."
Indeed, Hurley let go of Sophie. His hand, which had originally been on Sophie's neck, was now resting on her face, his thumb lightly stroking her cheek.
"Now that you've had a drink too, you can't be a driver tonight."
Sophie wasn't able to say anything after this.
Suddenly, she remembered a news report where someone had been pulled over while driving, and when the spouse was tested, she also had alcohol in her system. Upon investigation, it was found that she had kissed her husband while he was drunk...
Sophie didn't want that to happen to her. Her relationship with Hurley was still too awkward for her to explain.
"I will call a chauffeur."
There were plenty of designated drivers in the area, and they quickly found one.
After she had finally gotten Hurley into the car, he was leaning against her.
She called out Hurley's home address, and when the car started up a short time later, Hurley made a grimace and looked very uncomfortable.
With one hand still holding Sophie's, and the other hand clutching his stomach, he seemed to be having stomach pains again.
Soon they reached their destination. Sophie shook Hurley: "Hurley, we're at your place."
Hurley didn't move. He just held Sophie even tighter instead.
As long as he didn't open his eyes, he would be able to spend more time with her.
The strength in the palm of his hand was a sign to Sophie that Hurley was already awake, pretending to still be asleep with her.
"Hurley, stop with the pretending, get up."
But Hurley remained unmoved.
"You're really not going to get up?" Sophie looked at the man who was leaning against her.
"I'll just go then," Sophie said.
As she started to move, the big man clung to her like a kangaroo. "Don't, don't go..."
"You're home, go upstairs first," Sophie said as she locked the car.
"Aren't you coming up with me?" Hurley disagreed. "You promised to live with me."
"You go up first," Sophie pushed at Hurley, urging him to go up the stairs.
Seeing that Sophie had no intention of going upstairs with him, Hurley asked, "Are you on your way to see that man again?"
If he hadn't mentioned it, Sophie would have almost forgotten all about it. She had no idea if Miko had made it home safely; it had been her grandfather's request that she take him home.
"What do you care about? Go upstairs and sleep now!"
Hurley didn't listen. He wanted to follow Sophie. "If you're not going to let me worry about you, then you shouldn't worry about me."
Sophie's cold look fell on him. "Are you sure that you don't want me to worry about you?"
Hurley hesitated. He didn't want Sophie to get angry. If she were to disappear on him completely, then he would be finished.
"Then I'll go up first. Will you come later?"
Sophie pressed her lips together and Hurley said quickly, "I'm going to go up first."
This tactic seems to be ineffective. Hurley could only go upstairs.
The dark room was filled with a sense of loneliness. Hurley stood in front of the door and did not want to lose Sophie, even though it felt as if he had never really had her.
When Sophie arrived, Hurley's door was not closed and there were no lights on in the room.
As she was coming in with her things, she heard the sound of someone throwing up coming from the bathroom. She rushed over and saw Hurley by the toilet. She went over and patted him on the back to make him feel more comfortable.
After the vomiting was over, Hurley turned his head. Because the lights weren't on, he couldn't see Sophie's face very well.
"Sophie..."
Joy flowed from the bottom of his heart. Sophie had come back! She hadn't left him!
"Who told you to drink so much? Are you stupid?" Sophie unscrewed the cap on the bottle of water she had brought with her and handed it to Hurley to rinse out his mouth.
Hurley stared at Sophie, blinking all the time, afraid that the person in front of him was nothing more than a figment of his drunken imagination.
"What are you waiting for? Do I still have to pour it for you?" Sophie handed him the bottle and Hurley rinsed his mouth with it.
As soon as Sophie made a move to leave, Hurley grabbed her by the wrist. "Don't go!"
"I'm not going anywhere. You don't like the dark, do you? I'll turn on the lights."
Hurley felt like an abandoned child. He had been the one who had done the wrong thing, but now he felt like the heartless bad guy.
After Sophie turned on the light, she had a clear view of her surroundings, so as not to stumble.
"Do you still feel like throwing up?" she asked.
Hurley shook his head.
"Then come out."
After Sophie walked out, Hurley obediently followed behind her.
Sophie walked over to the table and started to unpack her things. "This is hangover soup. If you don't want to have a splitting headache tomorrow, you should drink it. And this is millet porridge. You dared to drink so much without eating dinner. Do you think you're invincible?"
A wave of warmth filled Hurley's chest. When Sophie had asked him to go upstairs earlier, she hadn't had the intention of leaving; she was on her way to buy food for him!
Sophie was just about to say something when she was pulled into a tight embrace from behind.
Hurley's lips were brushing up against her ear. "Sophie, I like you."
Hurley had said those words to her before, and Sophie was well aware of it. But hearing them so suddenly made her heart beat faster and made her ears involuntarily blush.
Sophie gently removed Hurley's arms from around her. "You should eat. I'll go freshen up."
She hadn't been drinking, but she was still enveloped in Hurley's scent of alcohol.
Sophie had only had a rest at Hurley's place yesterday before her trip to the lab, and she had been busy all day today. She didn't want to go anywhere else. After this research, she promised herself that she would have a few good days of rest!
Hurley felt much better after vomiting, and he was quite awake now. He listened to the sound of the shower and smiled.
Sophie was indeed a person with a sharp tongue, but with a very tender heart. Despite her harsh words, she was incredibly soft-hearted.
It was this softness that so captivated Hurley.
Sophie was easy to be persuaded. The tactic of feigning distress had worked for her time and time again. It was probably why her ex-husband had been able to deceive her so thoroughly.
If he ever got to meet that bastard, without Sophie having to say anything, he'd want to act and get even with him!
How could such a wonderful woman like her be mistreated and abandoned?
Hurley wished that he could be that kind of person and take care of Sophie the right way.
By the time Sophie finished her shower and came out, Hurley had almost finished his dinner. His gaze was glued to her like glue, it was impossible to shake it off.
Hurley even took out a hair dryer and said without waiting for Sophie to refuse, "Let me blow dry your hair.
Then, without hesitation, he started blowing her hair. He had a knack for it, having helped Sophie before. The temperature was just right and pleasant.
Sophie was too tired. She leaned back against the sofa and closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep.
Seeing Sophie close her eyes, Hurley adjusted the setting of the hairdryer to a lower level.
