"How could it possibly be you?" The surprise in Matilda's eyes faded instantly.
"Who else do you think it could be?" Sophie came over.
Today she was wearing exquisite make-up, a pretty short skirt, and even a pair of sunglasses on her nose.
When she had been bored on the plane, she had put on her make-up on purpose, just to see Matilda.
In comparison, Matilda had been wearing hospital clothes and had looked pale and thin, with sunken cheeks. She had tried to put on make-up as well, but it had given her a terrible feeling.
Sophie knew that a woman like Matilda, who had previously shone in the entertainment industry and was considered to be a fashion icon, would quickly have fans who would imitate her style and her brand name items would sell out.
But now she was looking like a ghost, no longer able to wear beautiful clothes because her face no longer had the same kind of charm.
Matilda couldn't stand her own ugliness, but the harder she tried to hide it, the worse it got for her. She resorted to heavier and heavier make-up, but her reflection in the mirror seemed to get uglier and uglier by the day.
To the point where she was the only one in the psychiatric hospital who felt the need to put on makeup on a daily basis.
But when she saw Sophie now, she looked so beautiful and full of life, the embodiment of youth.
She was dressed in the latest fashion and looked stunning, while Matilda was dressed in her hospital clothes, which was a stark contrast.
She used to be as beautiful as Sophie, confident and radiant, never afraid of anything, always the object of envy and compliments.
But now the difference between her and Sophie was like night and day.
Sophie was still proud and self-confident, while she was the one who was consumed by envy.
Matilda's heart was consumed with jealousy because she believed that she was the one who should be the one to be admired for her beauty!
"What do you want from me? You've reduced me to this state, you've already won, and you've come here to show it off?"
"Do you think that your current state of being is worthy for me to flaunt it in front of you?" Sophie completely ignored Matilda.
She told the nurse, "I'm going to have a private conversation with Ms. Jacobson, you can go."
The nurse quickly walked out of the room and Sophie walked into the room and took a seat.
Matilda followed her, her eyes filled with malice.
"Matilda, do you feel comfortable staying here?" In contrast, Sophie seemed very relaxed.
"Comfortable? Why don't you stay here for a few days? I'm a normal person, and yet you're all calling me crazy, stuck here with nothing, surrounded by a bunch of crazy people. Do you think it's comfortable to stay here?"
Matilda felt the urge to lunge at Sophie and choke her to death.
She was living a miserable life, while Sophie seemed to be carefree and happy.
Since she had been here, Hurley had not visited her even once, and she had not even seen her son. But Sophie? She saw Hurley every day, and she claimed to have the man who should have belonged to her!
The more Matilda thought about it, the more unfair it seemed to her. She ran towards Sophie like a madman, and the idea of strangling her was getting stronger and stronger. After all, Sophie was the only one here, and her life had already been ruined.
What difference would one more charge of murder make?
She was already branded insane, so she should live up to her name.
"You brought this on yourself, I'm going to kill you, I'm going to kill you!"
But before her hand could reach the back of Sophie's neck, it was grabbed by Sophie. As Sophie gripped Matilda's wrist tightly, sharp pain followed. Soon, her hand lost all of its strength, and she could not even lift it up.
"What have you done to me?"
Not much, the human body has a lot of pressure points, some of them can paralyze you with a light touch. This pressure point can make the whole of your arm go numb. If I use more force, your hand might even be useless."
It was only then that Sophie let go, and Matilda took hold of her arm.
"What are you here for?" Matilda bit her lip and glared at Sophie.
"Didn't you just say that you didn't feel comfortable staying here? So I thought I'd come to help you find a new place to stay."
Sophie's tone was casual, but if you looked a little closer, you could feel the cold loneliness that was emanating from her deep-set pupils.
"A new place? Where?"
Matilda didn't believe that Sophie could be so friendly to her. But she really didn't want to stay here any longer. If Sophie could really get her out of here...
"I'm thinking of a prison, a cell. How does that sound?"
Matilda took a step back, "Sophie, why are you being so ruthless? Is it not enough for you that I am a prisoner in this place? Do you want to send me to a real prison this time? Who gave you the right to send me to a real prison?"
"You had a case of murder and a case of arson, shouldn't you go to prison for that?"
"What murder, what arson? Stop accusing me!"
Matilda had completely forgotten about the deeds she had done in the past. But she still felt a little uneasy. Could it be... that the incident with Richard Walton's wife was a matter of public knowledge? Even though she didn't do it herself, and even though her hands weren't stained with blood, she was still responsible for it.
But if there was any publicity about this matter, it would be Hurley who would be in charge, not Sophie.
"Five years ago, you allowed somebody to take Hurley's wife, weren't you?"
Sophie spoke calmly, watching Matilda's expression.
This matter had never been brought up before. Now that it was, Matilda's face was full of astonishment, with a hint of panic in her eyes.
"Kidnapping?" she said after two seconds. "I have no idea what you're talking about!"
"Stop trying to pretend, Matilda. Do you really think that what you have done in the past will never be discovered?"
Sophie spoke in a calm voice, but every word felt like a hammer to Matilda's heart.
She had almost forgotten this incident herself.
Hadn't she arranged for her uncle to bring back a fake Cersei? She had even heard that there had been a suicide attempt by means of an overdose and that she was still in a critical condition.
Why did Sophie suddenly bring this up? Did she find out something?
"I didn't do anything! You're just talking nonsense!"
"I'm talking nonsense? To let someone kidnap her, to even let someone dig the unborn child out of her womb, wasn't that all part of your arrangements?"
"Do you think that only killing someone personally counts as murder?"
Sophie lowered her voice.
Matilda felt guilty and found the voice extremely frightening.
Why was Sophie suddenly mentioning these things? Could it be that Sophie was...
