"You're no longer working for the Walton Group anymore, are you? What are you doing here? Do you want me to call security to throw you out, or..."
"We're leaving, we're leaving right now!"
When a married couple is having a hard time, they each flee. The same can be said of fair-weather friends.
By this time, even the people Benedict had brought to support him disappeared like frightened rabbits.
Only Benedict and Stella remained in the office.
Stella was well aware of how formidable this cousin of hers can be, even more formidable than her own father. In view of the situation, she could only say, "Hurley, I'll be on my way now."
Hurley nodded, leaving only Benedict.
"Uncle Benedict, if you like my chair so much, I can have it moved to your office."
But Benedict wasn't interested in the chair at all. He wanted power!
"But this office is not a place where you can just sit as he likes, Uncle Benedict."
"Hurley! Don't push people too much!" Since they had already torn down the facade, Benedict did not have any kind words to say.
"Am I pushing people too far, or are you?" Hurley was sitting right there in his seat with his legs crossed and looking up at Benedict.
When Hurley is standing up and looking down at you, his eyes are very intimidating.
But even when he is sitting here, his hands casually resting on his chest, he looks like a powerful boss, which is just as intimidating.
"Uncle Benedict, if you have made significant contributions to the Walton Group, why don't you share them with us openly? If you truly have the ability to win people over, and if you have spearheaded a project that has increased the economic benefit of all, then perhaps I'll consider stepping down from my current role."
"But, Uncle Benedict, wanting everything without having to work for it... Sometimes you should not be too greedy, don't you think?"
"You... you just wait for me!" Benedict jabbed a finger in Hurley's direction, his determination obvious.
This wasn't going to end, he was going to get what he wanted out of the Walton Group eventually.
Benedict walked away dejected, and it was only then that Hurley rubbed his forehead.
He knew that Benedict was not going to give up so easily, and he was not afraid to confront him.
"People's intentions are often difficult to discern. After doing so much for the company, these shareholders dared to question me based on mere rumors. They want me to resign. It's a little frightening. Since I took over the company, I have never shortchanged anyone..." Hurley said.
Hurley sighed and rubbed his forehead. Sometimes it felt like a waste of effort.
While those who caused trouble were able to simply walk away, Hurley was left with a mountain of work to do. Even when he was on vacation, his workload did not diminish at all. Whether he was in Andorra or up late at night, he would find himself on video conference calls and sifting through a myriad of e-mails.
All of a sudden, Hurley was feeling a little tired, his mind filled with a weariness that he himself couldn't describe.
He opened his cell phone and saw a message from the bodyguard at the hospital, which was a video of Sophie conversing with someone in the hospital room.
There was a smile on Sophie's face, and the girl in the hospital bed didn't resist. Although she was cautious, one could tell she was happy to be talking to Sophie.
Sophie still held that attraction for him, especially when he remembered that he had tried to communicate with the same woman who had looked at him with such contempt.
All of a sudden, he wanted to know what Sophie and the little fool were talking about.
Now, he is very clear about what he feels. He likes Sophie, and as for the little fool's words, once she recovers, Hurley plans to send her abroad to be cared for, so that she will have nothing to worry about for the rest of her life.
