The three men exchanged glances, identical indulgent smiles tugging at their lips. They clearly saw her refusal as nothing more than a little girl's petulant tantrum.
"How about this," Raven suddenly leaned forward, "Sienna, the weather's perfect. Why don't we head to the stables for some fresh air?"
I shook my head coldly. "I don't want to go."
"Don't be like that." Caleb coaxed, "Sienna, getting out will help your injuries heal."
Lucien simply pulled me toward the car. "Let's go."
The royal stables stretched out in emerald perfection, the breeze carrying the sweet scent of grass. Yet all I felt was bone-deep cold.
"Sienna, pick a horse to ride." Caleb handed me a helmet. "We'll go prepare some refreshments for you."
I took it numbly and randomly chose a gentle mare.
Right now, all I wanted was to escape these suffocating people, even if just for a moment of peace.
The horse began to trot, wind brushing against my cheeks. Finally, I could temporarily forget all those soul-crushing problems.
But just as I let my guard down, chaos erupted in the distance.
"Neigh—"
Over a hundred horses thundered from nowhere, charging toward me like they'd lost their minds.
I frantically yanked the reins to turn around. Too late.
I pulled desperately at the reins, but my terrified mount wouldn't obey. In the chaos, I was thrown from the saddle and hit the ground hard.
"Ah!"
When the first hoof struck my shin, I heard the sickening crack of bone. Then came the second hoof, the third...
I curled up on the grass as blood gradually stained the green beneath me crimson.
In the last moment before darkness claimed me, I glimpsed three distant figures watching it all with cold indifference.
When I woke again, harsh white light made me instinctively squint. My body, wrapped entirely in bandages, felt foreign. The slightest movement brought excruciating pain.
Outside my door, Derek's icy voice drifted through: "...you went too far."
I held my breath.
"I only asked her to give Rachel some blood, but you three," Derek's tone was arctic, "not only bribed the nurses to torment her, but deliberately released a hundred horses to trample her like this? She has compound fractures throughout her body. She almost didn't wake up."
"That's what she gets for bullying Rachel." Raven's voice carried a chilling lightness. "Just a small lesson."
"Acting like we care about her every day makes me sick." Lucien's words hit like a poisoned blade, stabbing straight into my heart. "If it weren't for Rachel, who'd want to play house with her?"
I bit down hard on my lip until the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.
So those "accidental" burns, the blood in those syringes, even this carefully orchestrated "accident"—all revenge for Rachel.
I didn't understand.
Even if they didn't love me, we'd grown up together. We were childhood friends.
They'd stayed by my bedside all night when I was sick, spent countless hours planning birthday surprises... But now, for Rachel—someone they'd known mere months—they'd torn me apart completely.
I wanted to burst out and demand answers, to cry and scream. But the slightest movement sent waves of agony crashing over me, dragging me back into darkness.
When I woke again, the room was empty except for my phone's glowing screen showing three unread messages.
【Sienna, we're sorry. We failed to protect you. We're too ashamed to face you, so we flew overseas overnight to buy you gifts as compensation.】
【Rest and recover. We'll be back soon.】
【Tell us what you want, and we'll bring it back for you.】
I set the phone down numbly, too drained even for pain.
I didn't want to see them or hear their fake concern anymore. I just wanted to lie in this hospital bed and heal alone.
But that day, my door suddenly burst open.
