Caitlyn stood at the podium, gazing at the buzzing classroom. Her eyes finally locked onto Leon, who was whispering with another guy in the corner.
Caitlyn pointed to the blackboard, her voice not particularly loud, yet clear and crisp enough for everyone in the classroom to hear. It was sharp and decisive.
If Leon were to describe it, he'd probably say, "It sounds nice. I like listening to it. Say more."
"Professor, you're so beautiful! Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Professor, would you consider a girlfriend?"
The moment the first playful comment was thrown out, the classroom erupted into laughter, filled with youthful energy.
Leon laughed too, watching the crowd with amusement. 'Not bad. Pretty lively,' he thought.
Caitlyn observed them calmly, not in any rush to rein them in. She simply glanced at Leon and said softly, "Leon, help me with roll call."
"Professor Morrow! I want to do roll call too! Can I do it?" Another guy sitting in the front row shouted toward Caitlyn.
Caitlyn ignored him, her gaze fixed steadily on Leon.
With a smile, Leon walked step by step from the back of the classroom to Caitlyn's side.
"Hey man, why did you get picked? Is it rigged? That's not cool, bro. Or do you and Professor Morrow have some… special connection? First day of class and she already chose you," someone teased.
Alex, who had been chatting with Leon earlier, suddenly stiffened, staring at him…
Alex murmured, 'No way, man. I just pour my heart out to you, and you're an undercover agent?'
A sense of impending doom washed over Alex… He had a bad feeling about this class from now on.
"It's fine… at most, he's just the class rep. I guess a nice meal should be enough to slack off," Alex mumbled to himself, trying to comfort his nerves.
Leon took a deep breath, accepted the attendance list from Caitlyn, and turned back to the class, his smile growing brighter.
"Pretty rowdy, huh? I like it. Lots of energy…" Leon repeated.
Caitlyn eyed his expression with a hint of concern. She had a bad feeling… He looked… really pissed. But wasn't this her class? She frowned and reminded him, "Don't go overboard."
But wasn't this her class? Caitlyn frowned and reminded him. "Don't go overboard."
"Don't worry, I'm not that brutal," Leon replied with a slight smile.
Leon then lifted his gaze and looked straight at Alex. The smile vanished, replaced instantly by a chilling coldness that seemed to freeze the air.
The entire classroom stiffened, falling silent in an instant. It was as if they were being stared down by some ancient beast. Even those with a bit of power found themselves unable to utter a single word.
Leon scanned the room with an indifferent gaze, his voice calm but as sharp as ice. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Leon Radford, the teaching assistant for Professor Morrow's class.
"I hope we can get along well in the days to come."
Leon's words were polite, but his tone was so icy it seemed to choke the room.
Leon continued, "Now, when I call your name, I expect to hear a loud and clear 'here.' Got it?"
The silence was absolute. Olivia, the class president, glanced at Leon out of the corner of her eye, her body trembling slightly.
Those who hadn't officially entered the path of magic or combat might only feel an overwhelming pressure.
But Olivia, who had already achieved a low-level hero status, felt like she was staring into an abyss.
Olivia wondered, 'This kind of aura… I've only ever sensed something like this once, at a high-level gathering of the Hall of Heroes.
'It was coming from one of the top S-rank heroes… someone they called a Saint.
'And he's just a TA for a theory class? Is this some kind of joke?
'Or is Professor Morrow… his wife, being protected while she "experiences life"?'
Isaac, the vice president, caught sight of her reaction and gulped hard.
Isaac had clearly realized it too. But his eyes shifted, not to Leon, but to the delicate blonde woman standing calmly at the podium.
Isaac thought, 'Demon Lord… Oh my God… That's her! I saw her at a high-level demon clan meeting years ago…
'The name "Caitlyn Morrow," that face—I'll never forget. She's the main figure at that gathering, revered by everyone present. The Demon Lord herself.'
Whatever Olivia and Isaac were thinking, Leon had no idea.
Leon's gaze swept across the room without even glancing at the attendance list, pausing deliberately on the ones who had been teasing Caitlyn earlier. Finally, he spoke, his tone casual. "Alex Sharp."
"H-here!" Alex shot to his feet, his whole body drenched in sweat, legs shaking uncontrollably.
Alex had just done a quick search in his mind… and what he found was absolutely terrifying.
The name Leon Radford matched the globally wanted superhuman from the Human Alliance's most recent bounty list.
Alex turned to Leon, his expression twisted into something worse than a grimace.
Leon gave a slight nod, and then—boom—a nearly tangible wave of pressure crashed onto Alex.
It was like a tidal wave of pure, crushing energy.
With a deafening crack, his desk splintered into pieces, and Alex vanished from his spot. There wasn't even a scream—just silence.
Everyone in the room flinched, the tension growing so thick it felt suffocating.
Caitlyn's lips twitched. She tiptoed behind Leon to sneak a peek, but her height wasn't doing her any favors.
All Caitlyn saw were fragments of shattered desks strewn across the aisle.
Caitlyn frowned and scolded, "You'll have to pay for that desk! It's coming out of your pocket!"
Caitlyn's voice rang clear in the dead-silent classroom.
Quite a few students' mouths twitched… and their hearts went cold. 'This professor… Her only concern is that the desk got broken and needs to be paid for?'
Leon turned to look at Caitlyn, the chill on his face melting away, replaced by a hint of disappointment.
Because Leon had just set the atmosphere perfectly… he was trying to help her establish authority, after all.
Caitlyn, expressionless, said flatly, "No more breaking things."
Leon returned to his icy demeanor, facing the class once more. "Just now, Alex was so kind to share his thoughts with me about slacking off in class, about…threatening teachers in private, and making disrespectful jokes about professors."
Leon paused, his eyes sweeping over them. "I wouldn't normally care… but I don't like it when people disrespect Caitlyn.
"But considering his youth… and Caitlyn's insistence that I don't kill anyone, I only gave him a little… reminder."
Leon raised an eyebrow. "If anyone thinks I overstepped, now's the time to say so.
"I'm a firm believer in democracy. Feel free to express your concerns. Anyone?"
Not a sound. In their hearts, many were practically screaming, 'Are you kidding me? Who would dare?'
Leon nodded approvingly. "Looks like everyone's satisfied… That's good. But I encourage you to speak up in the future if you have objections.
"Now, let's continue with roll call."
The next ten minutes were like a death march. The entire classroom was wrapped in a suffocating silence as Leon called out names.
Each person called upon stood up, trembling, and shouted "Here!" with all the energy they could muster.
And occasionally, someone whose name was called would simply collapse back into their seat, pale and drenched in sweat.
Those who paid attention noticed something chilling: everyone who broke down was among the ones who had teased Caitlyn earlier.
This was straight-up vengeance.
The ones who had stayed quiet swallowed nervously. 'Thank God I don't mess around…'
By now, it was crystal clear—this theory class's TA was not only a terrifying guardian but also a major grudge-holder.
Leon glanced down at the list of names, then backed up at the class. His voice turned casual again. "Looks like a few people are missing… Busy, I guess.
"Well, cutting class… I don't really mind. Slacking off is normal, I get it. In fact, I swear I won't hold it against you."
The students stared wide-eyed. Was this… was this a trick?
Leon flashed them a grin. "That said, if Caitlyn finds out you've been skipping, I can't guarantee she won't be upset… What kind of punishment she might come up with? No idea, that's up to her.
"As for those absent today… I guess they're just unlucky. Let's go ahead and fail them for today. What do you think, Professor Morrow?"
With that, Leon handed the list back to her with a bright smile.
Caitlyn gave him an exasperated look, glancing at the circled names. She replied, "Those who skipped… tell them that if they don't want to fail, they'll need a 90 or above in the final.
"And if you guys want to get caught skipping… same rule applies."
Caitlyn looked up and addressed the class. "Who's the class president and vice president?"
"Here!"
"Yes, Professor!"
Two students stood up—Olivia and Isaac. They exchanged a glance and immediately looked away.
Even in the neutral city, the tension between the human and the demons holding those positions was palpable.
Caitlyn nodded. "You two are now the class reps for this course. If Leon is ever unavailable, you'll handle roll call and class organization."
"Understood, Professor!" Olivia and Isaac answered.
Caitlyn closed the attendance book, glancing at the now-silent classroom before shooting a look at Leon.
Leon, grinning ear to ear, threw her a wink as if to say, Not bad, huh?
Caitlyn stifled a laugh. Leon seemed so childish and endearing compared to the cold, unyielding presence he'd just been.
Then Caitlyn turned back to the class, her gaze sharpening, and said coolly, "Now… let's begin the lesson."
