That night, Leon lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
It wasn't because of the pain. Leon had worse injuries before, and still slept soundly in a hospital bed.
Leon stared at the ceiling, letting out a long sigh, raising the hand that had grabbed Caitlyn's during the day, looking at it.
Was he…a little bothered?
Anyway, before Caitlyn went back to her room tonight, she didn't do the usual…goodnight head pat…and barely spoke to him the whole evening.
Of course, it was not like Leon wanted it that badly, and he certainly wasn't some fool who wouldn't wash his hand just because of that…that would be clown behavior.
Leon thought, 'It's not like I never got to hold it again. Hmph, next time it won't just be her hand! I'll make sure to…'
The next morning, Caitlyn looked at the dark circles under Leon's eyes with a slightly complicated expression.
Leon yawned, gave her a quick glance, snorted coldly, and turned to head to the bathroom to wash up.
'So it's the silent treatment, huh? I can do that too!' Leon murmured.
Caitlyn chuckled lightly, shaking her head with amusement. She didn't mind at all and walked inside gracefully to brush her teeth.
Caitlyn thought, 'Childish… If I got worked up with him, wouldn't that make me just as immature?
'I was once the Demon Lord who led the Demons! I'm mature, dependable, and undeniably charming!'
The two brushed their teeth in front of the mirror, not even sparing each other a glance, until…
A peculiar noise suddenly broke the silence.
Caitlyn's lips slowly curled up, while Leon's expression gradually stiffened.
"Quite the sound. Didn't eat enough last night?" Caitlyn teased.
Leon's hand froze mid-brush, his toothbrush almost jabbing his nose, leaving a streak of white foam on his face.
Then Leon clenched his fist, glaring daggers at the reflection of that cheerful, annoyingly cute woman in the mirror.
'Damn it,' Leon muttered.
During breakfast, Leon inhaled eight sandwiches, two cups of coffee, and three bread.
Caitlyn sat across from him, sipping her coffee, eyes blank as she watched Leon wolf down the pile of breakfast in front of him at a terrifying speed—two bites per sandwich, all gone.
Leon let out a satisfied burp and shot his eyes in her direction.
Caitlyn stiffened, clutching her coffee tightly, saying, "I already drank from it!"
"Hmph…" Leon snorted lightly, then suddenly reached over and grabbed one of the bread in front of her.
Caitlyn's eyes immediately grew colder, staring at him as he took a big bite, chewing with a look of defiance before tilting his chin at her in challenge.
'That…jerk!' Caitlyn snapped.
Full and satisfied, Leon stretched with a groan. His stomach was slightly rounded, like he was a few months pregnant.
"Who's the mom?" Caitlyn teased.
"What?" Leon blinked, looking at her, confused.
Caitlyn just smirked, turned, and walked away without answering.
A mental victory was still a victory, and as for everything else…living under the same roof, Caitlyn would find a way to get back at him.
At the bus stop, walking was too far, they didn't have an e-scooter yet, and hailing a cab was too expensive. So, it was the bus for now.
Caitlyn watched the 234 bus slowly approach from down the road, a hint of hesitation in her eyes.
Hopefully, it wasn't too crowded…
And as if the universe heard her thoughts, the great Murphy's Law struck again. It was packed.
Even just peering through the glass at the crowd inside made Caitlyn feel a little dizzy.
Leon saw the hesitation in her eyes and chuckled. "Let's just get a cab. We're finally getting to live a chill, laid-back life, right? Spending a bit of money isn't a big deal. No need to make yourself suffer."
Caitlyn looked at him, sighed, and said softly, "We're already here…might as well squeeze in today."
Honestly, Caitlyn had never squeezed onto a bus her entire life.
Leon glanced at her, didn't argue, and stepped onto the bus first.
Then Leon turned back to look at Caitlyn, seeing her standing awkwardly on the steps, clearly not sure where to go. He smiled, grabbing the handle with one hand and extending the other to her.
Meanwhile, Caitlyn stared at the slender, graceful hand stretched out before her, slowly raising her head to meet his gaze.
Before she could even say a word, the driver barked, "You getting on or not? Hurry up!"
Startled, Caitlyn instinctively grabbed Leon's hand, stumbling forward.
Then, with a loud creak, the door shut behind her, and Caitlyn felt a tug at her hand.
In the next moment, Caitlyn was pulled right into Leon's chest.
Caitlyn stiffened, about to pull away when the bus suddenly lurched forward, making her stumble again. Leon's arm wrapped around her waist, holding her firmly in place, pulling her completely into his embrace.
That faint scent on Leon, mingled with traces of medicinal herbs, washed over her like a wave.
Caitlyn's cheeks flushed, her eyes quivering as she quickly looked up at him. "You…" she whispered.
Leon's gaze was calm as he looked down at her, his voice soft. "Being squeezed in my arms has to be better than getting crushed in the crowd, right? Or…you'd prefer to get pushed further inside? I don't mind."
"I…" Caitlyn's face turned red, her eyes flicking to the crowd behind him. She bit her lip, but the word "yes" wouldn't come out.
But…but…Caitlyn gently sniffed the scent on Leon, her cheeks growing even redder, her head drooping lower and lower, unable to meet his eyes.
Leon held her steadily…though not entirely calm himself. His eyelids twitched a little.
Seeing Caitlyn drop her head, Leon silently let out a breath, swallowing hard, his breathing slightly uneven.
Caitlyn might be a master of magic, but Leon remembered she used to fight just fine too.
Leon wondered, 'Why does she feel like she had no bones now…? Her hair smells really nice…isn't the shampoo the same brand?'
Soon, Leon could feel his mind racing wildly.
When the soft figure in his arms shifted slightly, Leon took a sharp breath and whispered, "Stop moving!"
Caitlyn's body froze, her flushed cheeks lifting just enough to glance at him, whispering, "I want…to turn around…"
Face to face…it was just too overwhelming. Caitlyn felt like she was going to melt from the heat.
Leon's mouth twitched a little, and he asked, "You sure you want to turn your back to me?"
Caitlyn went silent for a moment, then her face grew even redder as she realized what he meant. Her head dropped again, completely flustered.
'Oh my god…I've never been this embarrassed in my life!' Caitlyn thought.
Leon discreetly inhaled her scent, glancing down with a silent chuckle. He thought, 'Well, now even her ears are red…how can she be this adorable?'
Suddenly, the bus jolted hard, the crowd from behind pressed forward.
Leon shut his eyes, holding Caitlyn even tighter…
'Driver…take your time. Hit a few more bumps if you want. I won't hold a grudge for your attitude earlier,' Leon thought.
At that moment, in the bus, a pair of big, blinking eyes were staring at the two clinging to each other near the door.
Olivia was silent…She missed her cab, but she really couldn't figure out why Caitlyn and Leon were taking a bus.
The only reason Olivia could think of… She murmured, 'They're really into some weird stuff.'
