Leon held tightly onto Caitlyn's soft little hand, refusing to let go no matter how much she tried to shake him off.
He strode ahead, chin high, soaking in the stares from passersby. His grin was so wide it looked like it might float right off his face.
This time, Leon didn't glare at anyone. In fact, he wanted the whole world to stare at them.
He thought, 'Why not?
'What is there left to be unsure about? What is there to question?'
He had to admit it—he'd completely fallen for this sharp-tongued, golden-haired Demon Lord.
People lied all the time. But the way his heart raced, the way her trembling hand fit into his—it wasn't something he could fake. No matter how he tried to hide it, Leon couldn't convince himself he saw Caitlyn as just a friend.
He wasn't the type to play games.
He just wanted to pull this sweet, soft girl into his arms. He wanted to hold her delicate hand, kiss her soft pink lips, curl up with her under the covers—he wanted to be with her, always.
He thought, 'So what if she used to be the Demon Lord?
'So what if we were enemies, always at each other's throats?
'Right now, in this moment—if anyone tried to stop me, I'd cut them down. Even the gods can't change my mind!'
Caitlyn pressed her lips together, flustered under the weight of the stares and murmurs around them. Her face felt like it was on fire.
She was so hot she could barely see straight—her vision was starting to blur from the heat.
She thought, 'Ah! This idiot! Where the hell is he dragging me?
'Everyone is watching… and he still won't let go. I am going to die of embarrassment!'
The poor, flustered Demon Lord—who'd never even been in a relationship before—was now being dragged along by Leon in front of a whole crowd. Of course she was overwhelmed.
To be honest, when it came to men… this shameless guy holding her hand was the one she was closest to.
She'd probably spent more time with Leon than with her so-called family…
Still, if Leon wanted to win her over completely, he had a long road ahead of him. 'Or maybe not that long?' she thought.
Dazed and blushing, the confused ex-Demon Lord stared blankly at his back as she trailed after him, face burning.
She thought, 'Whatever. His grip is like a vice—there is no shaking him off now.'
Caitlyn gave up fighting it. Ignoring the stares—some teasing, some jealous, some just plain nosy—she followed him in silence… pretending she was already dead was easier.
"We're here," Leon said.
At last, Leon stopped—right in front of a shiny new electric scooter.
He gave her hand a little squeeze, then straightened up and struck a proud pose, as if nothing had happened. "Look! I got the scooter!"
Caitlyn's face turned an even deeper shade of red, like a perfectly ripe peach—bright and impossible to ignore.
She gritted her teeth, eyes quivering as she glared at him, completely ignoring the scooter. The embarrassment and frustration bubbling inside her finally exploded like a volcano.
"Leon, you pervert! Creep! Idiot! You total freak!" she shouted.
Her shout rang out across the parking lot, catching the attention of every student nearby, all of whom turned to stare in shock.
Leon winced, covering his ears. Even he was a little embarrassed now.
He glanced around quickly and lowered his voice. "Jeez, why'd you have to yell like that? Everyone heard you! So embarrassing!"
Caitlyn glared daggers at him. "And you weren't embarrassed earlier?"
"That was different!" Leon muttered under his breath, feeling the skeptical stares of passersby boring into him. His cheeks flushed with heat.
He thought, 'Seriously? Her string of insults might not have had any bite, but being heard by strangers? That is mortifying.'
To make things worse, a few bystanders—clearly clueless about the situation—saw how young Caitlyn looked and had already pulled out their phones, ready to call the enforcement squad.
Leon thought, 'Fantastic. Now I really look like some creep coercing a teenage girl into weird stuff.'
Leon quickly jumped onto the scooter, shot Caitlyn a look, and patted the back seat.
"What are you waiting for? Get on—we're going home."
Caitlyn stood frozen, pouting, still glaring daggers at him.
Her face was so red, you'd think she'd just finished a ten-mile sprint.
She didn't move an inch, like she'd been turned to stone.
If looks could kill, Leon would've been shredded into pieces on the spot.
He sighed, popped the kickstand back down, and walked over behind her. Gently, he placed both hands on her shoulders and gave her a light push.
Caitlyn flinched. Her eyes flicked with alarm as she jolted away from him like she'd been electrocuted. Arms crossed over her chest, she shot him a glare full of suspicion, her face now burning even hotter.
Leon's mouth twitched. He thought, 'That reaction? That level of caution? It stings a little, honestly.'
"Come on, was that really necessary? I'm still recovering here. If you wanted to knock me out, it wouldn't take much."
Caitlyn thought, 'Fair enough.' She'd been flustered from earlier—he had been holding her hand for quite a while. It threw her off more than she'd expected.
Caitlyn pursed her lips and gave him a side-eye. "If you touch me again without asking, I swear—I'll freeze your bank card. Good luck trying to spend a single coin."
Leon gasped and stared at her like she'd just committed war crimes. "You really are a Demon Lord… That's diabolical!"
Caitlyn gave a proud little hum, then turned her gaze to the scooter.
"Where'd you get this thing anyway?"
"Won it in a bet."
Leon grinned, cool and casual again, as he swung a leg over the scooter and looked back at her.
"Well? You getting on, or are you planning to walk all the way home?"
Caitlyn stepped closer, eyes still fixed on him, cautious to the core. She planted one foot on the side pedal, lifted the other leg, and swung it over, settling onto the back seat with both hands on the little storage box behind her for balance.
Good thing she wore pants—no risk of a wardrobe malfunction today.
Still, being short did make getting on a bit of a struggle.
Leon pushed off with one foot, rolling the scooter backward out of the parking shelter. He could feel Caitlyn sitting behind him—close, but clearly making sure they didn't actually touch. He glanced over his shoulder and pouted slightly.
Then, without warning, he reached back, grabbed one of her hands, and placed it on his waist.
Caitlyn instantly stiffened and yanked her hand back like she'd been burned.
Leon sighed. "This thing's fast, you know. You sure you don't wanna hold on?"
"I'm not some amateur! I won't fall off!"
"Suit yourself…"
He didn't argue, but a mischievous glint sparked in his eyes. Without another word, he twisted the ignition and slammed the throttle.
The scooter shot forward like a rocket.
No joke—it actually launched like it had booster jets.
As she felt the violent acceleration and sudden lurch, Caitlyn's eyes widened in alarm. Instinct took over—she grabbed onto Leon with both arms in a tight hug.
Thunk!
The scooter hit the ground with a bounce before tearing off like a wild beast, accelerating with the force of a sports car.
Leon felt her soft grip tighten around his waist and couldn't help the grin that spread across his face. He shouted with glee, "Wooohooo!"
Caitlyn, now back in control, quickly let go and instead pinched the back of his shirt, gritting her teeth. "You maniac! Slow down!"
She thought, 'What kind of normal scooter goes this fast?'
Leon, meanwhile, was having the time of his life.
He'd taken the winnings from that bet and gone straight to the best electric-scooter dealer in Ekavine City.
With every last coin, he'd bought this absolute beast of a machine—a high-performance hybrid powered by both electricity and magic. The thing could practically outrun a plane.
"Ara ara!"
Leon shouted nonsense over the wind, clearly pretending not to hear her.
With a flash of lightning, they shot out of the school gates and onto the street.
It wasn't until he blew through a red light and took a solid flick to the forehead that he finally started to slow down.
"Ow! That hurt!"
Caitlyn's face was red again—this time with pure fury.
"Try that again and you can say goodbye to your scooter!"
"Ow ow ow—okay, okay! I was wrong! Please stop twisting my ear!"
And so, Leon—who dreamed of becoming the Rider King of Ekavine City—was swiftly and decisively brought down… by Caitlyn's delicate, snow-white fingers.
