Leon stepped into the Guild of Hunters once more—but unlike last time, when no one gave him so much as a glance, this time he drew plenty of attention.
People recognized him now—Ekavine City's newly minted S-Rank Hunter.
And naturally, the striking blonde girl Caitlyn walking beside him drew her own fair share of looks.
That was… until Leon narrowed his eyes.
In an instant, a heavy, oppressive aura swept across the massive lobby like a tidal wave. Not a single person dared look their way again.
Caitlyn's eye twitched. She sharply elbowed Leon next to her.
"Seriously? Planning to start a one-man war against the Hall here too? Knock it off!" she said.
The tension vanished. The room exhaled.
A small group of staff hurried into the lobby, eyes wide, ready for combat.
But when they spotted Caitlyn, they collectively relaxed, visibly relieved.
Whew—false alarm. For a second, they thought someone had come to attack the place.
Leon recognized the man in the center of the group—a middle-aged guy with a calm demeanor. Without missing a beat, he strolled over and greeted him like an old friend.
"Well, if it isn't the President himself! Hey, quick favor—think you can skip the formalities and fast-track this one?" He nodded toward Caitlyn. "Just add her straight into the roster. No need for all the bureaucratic nonsense."
"Lord Radford… and Lady Caitlyn. Perhaps we could take this conversation to my office?" Fletcher Bishop asked.
"Oh, you two know each other? Even better."
Leon nodded like it was all settled. Caitlyn stepped up beside him, sighed, and muttered under her breath before speaking more clearly.
"Lead the way, Fletcher," she said.
She grabbed Leon by the sleeve and followed Fletcher out of the lobby at a brisk pace.
She thought, 'Walking beside him in public like this… is so embarrassing.'
"Please, enjoy some coffee."
The voice came from a woman with delicate features—horns curling from her head, a slim tail swaying behind her, and an air of elegance.
She wore a pencil skirt that hugged her hips, sky-high heels, sheer black stockings over long, shapely legs, and a crisp white blouse buttoned just enough to be professional—barely.
She smiled sweetly and placed two cups of coffee in front of them.
Leon's gaze lingered. Just a little too long.
"OW—what was that for?" He winced and rubbed his thigh, shooting Caitlyn an indignant look.
Caitlyn turned her head with an icy snort.
She thought, 'Unbelievable. Typical. Always staring. What's so great about her, huh? You like it that much?
'Why not just dive face-first into her cleavage while you're at it?'
Leon massaged his leg, frowning, eyes narrowing slightly as he studied Caitlyn's frosty expression. Then, slowly, a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "…Caitlyn, are you… jealous?" he asked.
Her glare snapped to him like a whip. "Who would be jealous of you? Leon, get over yourself."
He grinned, annoyingly pleased, but didn't push it.
That smug little face made Caitlyn grind her teeth harder.
She thought, 'Whatever. Look all you want. In fact, go ahead and stick your whole face in there.
'Maybe you'll suffocate and I'll finally get some peace.'
She crossed her arms tightly, irritation flaring hotter with every second.
Until—Pinch!
"OW! I wasn't even looking this time! Why'd you pinch me again?"
Leon clutched his arm, confused and wounded, while Caitlyn calmly picked up her coffee, took a sip, and exhaled slowly.
She thought, 'Breathe. Calm down. Be a composed woman. Do not kill him here.'
"You two really do have great chemistry," Fletcher laughed, clearly amused. "Seems the Lord of the City wasn't exaggerating after all."
Caitlyn let out a sharp scoff. "Just ignored everything Kathleen said, okay?
"All she ever does is spout nonsense! And seriously, how exactly did you get the idea that we're close? I swear, I could strangle this idiot right now!"
Leon stared at her, saying nothing. He thought, 'Then do it. Go on—just end me.'
Fletcher chuckled quietly. "Ah, you know what they say… teasing means affection."
Caitlyn let out a breathless, sarcastic laugh. Leon grinned too, glancing over at Fletcher, the bearded man.
He thought, 'So this guy's a wingman, huh? Figures.
'But still—not exactly what I'd call a respectable one. Can't compare to someone of my noble character.
'I mean, seriously—what kind of 'respectable' boss keeps a secretary that dressed like that right in the office?'
Caitlyn, clearly done entertaining this tag team of fools, cut in. "Let's just get this over with. I want to be out of here as soon as possible."
"Right, of course…" Fletcher paused, then gave Leon a knowing look—who was still openly, shamelessly staring at Caitlyn.
Leon inhaled deeply, smacked his lips like he'd just had a sip of wine, and sighed with satisfaction.
He said, "Anyway, nothing too complicated. Just here to get Caitlyn registered with a Hunter license.
"Apparently, they don't let you into the Abyssal Rift unless you're official—something about 'safety regulations' or whatever."
"That's no issue at all," Fletcher said with a pleasant nod. Then, with a slightly amused curl of his lips, he added, "Although... funny you mention that.
"The Lord of the City and I actually invited Lady Caitlyn to register with the Hall a while ago. She turned us down every time.
"And now, here she is—with you of all people."
Leon raised an eyebrow and turned toward Caitlyn.
She shot him a glare, cheeks pink. "What are you looking at? You wouldn't stop pestering me like some overgrown toddler. I had to come!"
"…Sure." Leon simply hummed in response, eyes full of unfiltered delight as he stared at her.
The look made Caitlyn squirm. She avoided his eyes, suddenly unsure what to do with her hands. Her fingers clenched as she sat frozen in place.
She wondered, 'What the heck is that look? Why's he suddenly being all... serious?'
Across the room, Fletcher exchanged a glance with his secretary, both clearly trying to hide their grins.
"So then," Fletcher said, turning back, "Lord Radford—does this mean you're thinking about getting back into the fight against the beasts?"
"Nope," Leon said flatly, raising a hand to cut him off. "I'm just bored. Might pop into the Abyssal Rift now and then for fun.
"Caitlyn's retired, and I'm not far behind. Honestly, I've got no interest in dealing with this world-saving nonsense anymore.
"Let the younger, hungrier folks handle that."
"Fair enough. After everything you've done, taking a break sounds well-deserved." Fletcher nodded, then turned to whisper something to his secretary.
She gave a graceful nod and left the office.
"She's going to bring Lady Caitlyn's Hunter license right away."
"Appreciate it." Leon smiled with polite sincerity.
Caitlyn side-eyed him, clearly unimpressed with the sudden shift into "model citizen" mode. She thought, 'Ugh. What's with this fake-ass charm all of a sudden?'
Once they got the license, the two of them left the Hall.
Caitlyn had made one thing very clear: no fighting until his wounds were completely healed. If anything happened again, she'd be the one stuck dealing with the aftermath.
Of course, Leon wasn't naive. He knew exactly what that really meant.
She was worried. She just wouldn't say it out loud.
"Alright—hop on!"
"Drive slow," Caitlyn reminded him before climbing onto the scooter.
Leon nodded obediently... and then, with a completely straight face, casually turned the key three times to unlock the performance mode.
VROOOOM!
With a deafening roar, the electric scooter shot forward like a missile.
Caitlyn had just started to relax, completely caught off guard by the sudden burst of speed. She opened her mouth to yell at him—but before she could say a word, Leon slammed the brakes.
The scooter jolted to a stop, and Caitlyn, unprepared, flew forward—straight into his back.
Feeling the soft pressure behind him, Leon grinned, switched to normal speed mode, and said smoothly, "Oops. Wrong gear."
"You little—!"
Caitlyn clenched her fists, face flushed bright red.
That night, Leon lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. No head pats. No Caitlyn. No sleep.
So… he wondered, 'Was that a win? Or a loss? Hard to say.'
