"Lady Kathleen… please, stop messing around… What if someone walks in?" Germaine said.
Kathleen curled her pink lips into a playful smile and hummed, "Then maybe you shouldn't have spilled coffee on me. Come on, wipe it off."
"I didn't mean to! It was an accident… You're the one who grabbed me..."
Blushing furiously, Germaine quietly started blotting Kathleen's clothes, her cheeks growing hotter by the second.
Kathleen's grin widened, her eyes gleaming with amusement.
Listening to her exaggeratedly flirtatious tone, Germaine felt like her brain had short-circuited.
Anyone on the outside would definitely get the wrong idea about what was going on in here...
Knock knock knock—
Suddenly, someone knocked on the infirmary door.
Germaine froze, instinctively trying to get up—only for Kathleen to flash a devilish smile and pull her in closer, locking her in a tight hug.
"Come in," Kathleen called sweetly.
As her singsong voice rang out, Germaine's eyes widened in horror. She hadn't even had a chance to break free when the door creaked open—and in walked Leon.
He'd assumed things would be back to normal by now, but the second he looked up, his expression completely froze.
He thought, 'Holy shit…'
He stared at Germaine—completely stunned—and his gaze turned complicated.
He thought, 'Well, well… looks like they are having quite the time in here.'
"Sorry—I'll come back later," he said, already backing out.
"Wait! You've got the wrong idea!" Germaine cried, struggling to break free.
Kathleen tackled her playfully, bursting into laughter.
She was like a real-life little witch—completely willing to cause chaos just for a moment of fun.
Leon's mouth twitched. Without another word, he quickly backed out of the danger zone—and thoughtfully closed the door behind him.
He thought, 'Girls into girls are way too dangerous...'
After wandering around for a bit, Leon ended up back at the teaching building. Caitlyn's class was still in session.
He leaned against the windowsill and watched her for a moment...
She glanced up at him, gave him a look that clearly said go entertain yourself, and went right back to teaching.
The students were just as focused and obedient as always—quiet, disciplined, scribbling down notes nonstop.
Leon gazed at her for a while longer, then sighed softly and headed back toward the infirmary.
This time, when he knocked and entered, nothing awkward was happening...
Though... their clothes still looked a little messy.
'Just finished something...?' he couldn't help but think.
Germaine sat there with a stone-cold expression, ignoring Kathleen, who was still swinging her legs like nothing had happened. She looked directly at Leon and said, "You really misunderstood earlier."
"…Yeah."
Germaine saw right through it. Just one look at his face, and she knew—he absolutely didn't believe her.
Her shoulders slumped, and she gave the smug white-haired witch beside her a glare full of silent outrage.
Kathleen, of course, was still all smiles—completely unbothered, not even pretending to be sorry. A classic witch.
"So," Kathleen chimed in cheerfully, "what brings you here today, Lord Radford? Feeling sick? Got a cut somewhere?"
"Not exactly. I'm in good shape—well, mostly. I actually came to ask about some sleep issues."
Leon scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "By the way—Germaine, you work here now?"
"Yeah." She nodded. "Lady Kathleen said that Lady Caitlyn and you were coming to Ekavine, so she dragged me along too. I'm the school nurse now."
She sighed, clearly still processing something.
"So, what kind of sleep issue are we talking about?" she asked.
"Just... insomnia, I guess." Leon clicked his tongue, trying to explain it.
Germaine frowned slightly. "Can you be a little more specific? There are a lot of possible causes for insomnia. We need to figure out if it's something physical… or if it's coming from your mind."
"Yeah… well, if Caitlyn's around before I go to bed…" Leon paused, rubbing his face awkwardly. Then, in a much quieter voice, he mumbled, "If she pats my head before I sleep… I can sleep really well. But if she doesn't, it's hard to fall asleep. I just can't calm down."
The moment he said that, Kathleen raised an eyebrow and sat up on the hospital bed, blinking at him curiously.
She thought, 'So Caitlyn spoils him this much, huh?' She'd assumed things between them were moving way slower. 'Caitlyn is always cold and distant with everyone…'
"...Did you have sleep problems before this?"
"No…" Leon thought about it for a second, then shook his head.
He used to be able to sleep even inside a monster's stomach. His sleep quality wasn't perfect, but he'd never had issues with insomnia.
"So when did it start?"
"I guess…" Leon's expression stiffened a little. "Right after I left the Human Alliance."
Germaine watched him for a moment, then followed up, "And just now, you said if Lady Caitlyn pats your head, you can sleep just fine?"
"…Yeah."
"So then, the first time you got a good night's sleep after the insomnia started… it was because she patted your head?"
"That's right…"
Germaine didn't ask anything else. The cause was crystal clear.
Leon looked at her, half-serious and half-pleading. "Doctor… is there still hope for me? She didn't secretly cast some kind of spell on me, did she?"
Germaine's lips twitched. "Lady Caitlyn isn't the type to do that."
Kathleen grinned and gleefully whipped out her phone to start recording. "Say that again? What are you accusing Lady Caitlyn of?"
Leon immediately straightened up, staring into the camera with dead seriousness.
"Caitlyn is the most amazing woman in the world!"
Kathleen rolled her eyes and put the phone away, then shot him a look. "Come on, do we even have to spell this out? You've got a textbook case of dependency issues.
"You got betrayed by someone you trusted, nearly died, your body was wrecked, and your whole world collapsed…
"Then, out of sheer survival instinct, you latched onto the one person left—your former enemy, Lady Caitlyn."
She suddenly narrowed her eyes and leaned in. "Leon… don't tell me you've been secretly crushing on her for a long time?"
"I have not—" Leon blurted out, quickly looking away.
"And if you didn't have ridiculously deep feelings for her, would you really have turned to her for comfort when the whole world had turned its back on you?"
Leon said nothing. He wasn't sure himself. Back then, it just felt like… if it wasn't Caitlyn, then he truly had no one left.
Germaine saw the look on his face and hurriedly pushed Kathleen back onto the bed.
"Lady Kathleen, please stop teasing him already!"
"What? I'm just saying what we're all thinking! The guy's head over heels for her! Can't sleep? Then just cuddle her every night, problem solved!"
Kathleen was still talking like it was the most obvious solution in the world.
Leon muttered under his breath, "Like she'd ever let me do that…"
"Would you want to?"
"...Yeah."
