In the room next door, Caitlyn clutched her pillow, face burning red, furiously blowing up Germaine's phone.
She never should've talked to Germaine about Leon cooking last night—and how it ended in disaster.
That stupid woman! It was her dumb idea. Caitlyn never should've listened to her and gone to Leon's room to "comfort him to sleep."
All that nonsense about severe insomnia, how he couldn't fall asleep without her touch, how he'd spiral into emotional collapse—Germaine was just messing with her! Clearly, he had more than enough energy to squeeze her half to death!
Germaine grinned so hard her cheeks nearly split.
"Mm-hmm... Leon, you really owe me for this one," she purred.
The next day, Leon had the best sleep of his life. No insomnia in sight. He even woke up with a dumb smile plastered across his face. Meanwhile, Caitlyn was rocking some serious dark circles.
As he opened his bedroom door, yawning and stretching, he nearly walked right into her.
Their eyes locked in midair. A beat of awkward silence passed.
Leon cleared his throat, rubbed his nose, and looked down. His ears were bright red.
Yeah... this was awkward.
Caitlyn's cheeks were tinged pink, and her eyes were practically dripping with silent accusation.
Look at this guy—glowing like a freaking peach. Must've slept like a baby.
She didn't know why, but her mood suddenly soured.
She'd spent the whole night tossing and turning, while he got to grab her, hug her all he wanted, and then snore away without a care.
"Hmph."
She huffed and stomped into the bathroom.
Leon scratched his head and trailed after her with a sigh.
Okay, so maybe he got a little carried away last night... Caitlyn had just been too soft and sweet, and he'd totally lost his mind for a second.
But hey, at least she didn't kick him out or anything.
Feeling guilty and trying to make amends, Leon helpfully squeezed toothpaste onto her brush and offered it up like a peace offering.
Caitlyn gave him a side-eye, snatched it, and started brushing.
Spitting out the foam, she washed her face in silence.
Leon stood nearby, blinking innocently like a clueless puppy.
The awkwardness lingered, but it wasn't unbearable.
They changed, headed downstairs—it was time for breakfast, and classes were still on the schedule.
As they opened the door, they ran into a tall woman just stepping out of the elevator.
She looked familiar...
Oh right—she was the one who walked by when Caitlyn swatted two flies near Leon and told him to be more tolerant of her temper.
"Out with your girlfriend today?" the woman asked with a grin.
Leon nodded on reflex—
And Caitlyn immediately smacked him upside the head.
"What the hell are you nodding for? Who's your girlfriend?"
Rubbing his head, Leon gave her a sheepish glare—then wisely looked away.
Fine, he had scored big last night. He'd let that one slide.
He'd just find a way to even the score some other time.
"Looks like your girlfriend's a little shy," the woman teased.
Leon blinked rapidly but didn't dare nod again—her hand was already on his waist, and one squeeze from her might kill him.
"We're just friends," Caitlyn explained.
The woman smiled knowingly. "Oh, I get it. Roommates."
She gave them a cheerful wave and walked off without another word.
Caitlyn exhaled slowly, feeling oddly stifled.
Ugh, why did people always have to twist things?
She and Leon were clearly just good friends.
She glanced at Leon. His eyes were clear and innocent. She fell silent.
Whatever. She had nothing to be ashamed of.
He was just a dumb idiot who had a little crush on her.
No way she'd fall that easily for a stupid guy like him.
Caitlyn had already decided—she was staying single forever.
Who needed men anyway?
At the breakfast shop, they sat at a small table out front and began eating.
Caitlyn eyed Leon stuffing his face and seriously wondered if he had a heart.
Last night, he'd gone full villain mode and squeezed her like a teddy bear—and now he was scarfing food like nothing happened?
One piece of bread vanished in two bites, chased down with coffee.
Catching her stare, Leon quickly chugged another sip, then silently started peeling an egg.
Once done, he placed it in front of her.
He'd gotten away with a lot—best to offer tribute, or next time she might not be so forgiving.
Leon wasn't completely hopeless when it came to emotional intelligence.
Caitlyn pouted, peeled out the yolk, and nibbled on the egg white.
Leon blinked, then reached over and picked up her discarded yolk.
She didn't say anything, just watched the cars go by.
He quietly grinned and popped the yolk into his mouth.
Did... did she just peel that for him?
As he started to feel way too smug about it, his face suddenly froze.
He'd gotten too cocky—the yolk was dry, and he was choking.
He grabbed his coffee and took a desperate gulp.
Leon's eyes bulged. His face turned red.
He thought, "Am I about to die... from an egg yolk? A mighty warrior, falling to a breakfast side dish?'
Caitlyn's eye twitched. She quickly grabbed her own cup to pour him some. But Leon snatched it, lips wrapping around the damp straw and sucking hard.
Her eyes glazed over. Lips trembling, she tried to say something, but seeing his pained expression, she swallowed the words.
Blushing furiously, she stared at him gulping her drink like his life depended on it.
"Saved..." Leon gasped, dazed, staring up at the sky.
Then he looked at Caitlyn—and saw her glaring at him, face red, fists clenched.
"W-What's wrong?" he asked, completely clueless.
Caitlyn gritted her teeth, cheeks flaming. She was absolutely adorable when mad.
"Nothing. Finish up. We've got work."
'You stupid idiot,' she thought.
"Oh... okay." Leon scratched his head and followed her, still confused why she was mad.
Maybe the yolk had cut off oxygen to his brain.
It wasn't until they were in the car, and he felt Caitlyn tug lightly at his shirt from behind, that it hit him.
Indirect kiss.
His eyes widened. A shiver ran through his whole body.
Caitlyn shot him a weird look.
"What? Don't even think about speeding."
"No speeding. Promise," Leon replied, grinning like an idiot.
He thought, 'So that's why the coffee tasted so sweet...'
Caitlyn glanced at him, her brow furrowing with concern.
'Did that kitchen disaster yesterday actually fry his brain?' she thought.
