Just because someone's riding a scooter doesn't mean they can't afford a car.
Well... in their case, they actually couldn't afford one right now.
But truth be told, this unassuming little scooter was easily worth the price of a decent car.
Besides, commuting in Ekavine City? Scooters were way more convenient than cars.
Plus, you couldn't exactly snuggle this close in a car.
Who would've guessed that the two people sharing this tiny scooter were actually world-famous legends?
Bitter rivals, no less.
Just in time for class, Leon helped Caitlyn check in and then started strutting around the classroom with an overly serious face.
Everyone he passed tensed up like they were about to be grilled.
Eventually, Caitlyn, thoroughly annoyed, kicked him out.
Seriously—if he just wanted to sit quietly, fine. But pacing back and forth in front of her?
How was she supposed to concentrate when every glance at his face reminded her of last night—and that moment this morning when he shamelessly sipped her coffee straight from the straw?
Despite once being a Demon Lord, Caitlyn had never dated anyone. So her girlish heart wasn't exactly prepared for all this.
Outside, Leon leaned on the window, watching her for a bit before sighing and wandering off.
She told him to go "take a walk"—but what was the point if he had to do it alone?
It wasn't like there was anywhere fun to blow off steam on campus.
He couldn't just barge into the cafeteria and start wolfing down everything in sight, could he?
Leaves rustled overhead as a chilly breeze brushed his face. Leon wandered aimlessly, bored out of his mind, like a delinquent who clearly didn't belong.
Whatever. Time to play the eye contact game.
He was just helping Ekavine Academy students build some guts. What a kind soul he was.
He crouched at a busy intersection, locking eyes with every student that passed.
The ones buried in their phones escaped unscathed; the unlucky ones who made eye contact? Cold sweat and a quick getaway.
Yeah, he definitely looked like a thug now.
"Hey, are you taking out your frustration on my students because Caitlyn bullied you?"
A familiar voice rang out behind him.
Leon turned to see a white-haired girl with folded arms and a glare sharp enough to kill.
"Excuse me? I'm training their mental fortitude. If they can't even handle my gaze, what are they going to do when some beast roars at them on the battlefield? I'm being gentle, too—barely using any pressure."
"So you're saying it's all for the benefit of my sweet students?" Kathleen sniffed.
Leon stood up, chest puffed. "Of course. And for the record, I wasn't bullied by Caitlyn. She just figured I'd be bored and told me to go for a walk."
"Or maybe she thought you were an eyesore and kicked you out," Kathleen deadpanned.
Leon scowled. "That's not it."
"If you're really so bored, go train the newbies in the gym. That's real character-building," she said.
Leon said, "Why should I? You paying me?"
Please. He was an S-Rank Hunter. It was one thing to listen to Caitlyn—he liked her.
'But Kathleen? What did she have to offer? White hair? Big deal,' Leon thought.
Caitlyn's hair turned white too when she fought—looked even cooler. And her punches hurt more.
"I'm the principal of Ekavine Academy. You're a mere assistant instructor. Listening to me is part of the job," Kathleen said coolly.
"Principal, city mayor, queen of Ekavine—I don't care. No benefits, no work."
"I'll raise your pay."
Leon paused. "Let me check with Caitlyn. I'm her assistant."
Kathleen's eye twitched. She was speechless.
"Fine. Just stop loitering here and ruining the view. Someone already reported a shady guy hanging around campus looking like he's about to launch a terrorist attack."
"Keep talking and I swear I'll deck you," Leon said, voice low with a lazy threat.
Kathleen raised an eyebrow. "Oh? All healed up already?"
"Almost. Want to test it out?" Leon crossed his arms, brow lifting in challenge.
She gave him a dismissive glance and snorted. "Please. If I land a hit and you end up limping again, Caitlyn's gonna come after me. Save the tough guy act for the Abyssal Rift and go hack up those half-breed freaks hanging around with the Mutants."
Leon scoffed, not rising to the bait. "Don't flatter yourself. Whether those Mutants are collaborating or mating with the beasts, I don't care. Unless they threaten the peace and quiet of my life with Caitlyn, they're none of my business."
He gave an indifferent snort, clearly unimpressed.
The Mutants—self-proclaimed gods, deluded and deranged—had always been low-profile evangelists on Solaris. Now they were teaming up with the beasts?
No wonder those monsters were getting more grotesque by the day.
Still, Leon couldn't be bothered. He'd only go down to the Abyssal Rift to let off steam when his hands got itchy.
Kathleen shot him a glare, nose scrunched in irritation. "You've been to the Guild of Hunters and still act like this? You and Caitlyn really are a pair of useless slackers."
"It's called retirement," Leon replied with a shrug. "A well-earned, perfectly justified break. If we weren't so broke, you think we'd bother teaching at this academy?"
Kathleen rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Just don't loiter around here scaring the students. Someone already filed a complaint with Arwen, said there's some terrifying guy skulking around campus like he's planning a terrorist attack."
Leon paused, blinking slowly. "Seriously?"
Kathleen turned and walked off—probably to do her actual job... or maybe to go play with Germaine. Who knew?
Left behind, Leon sighed and slowly made his way toward Caitlyn's office.
Time to admire some of her photos and kill some time.
Sitting in her chair, he kicked up his legs, opened her computer, and uploaded all the photos of Caitlyn from his phone—then saved them in a hidden folder.
Nice and high-res. Looked great on a big screen.
But pictures were just pictures. Nothing compared to watching her face up close, in person.
Leon rested his head on the desk, eyes unfocused. Before he knew it, his thoughts drifted back to last night.
"I want to hug her again..."
Class was nearly over.
Caitlyn glanced at the window—no one there.
Not like she was expecting anyone.
"Class dismissed."
She gathered her books, her cool expression carefully composed as she headed out.
At the door, her heart skipped just a little... but...
No idiot waiting outside.
Her lips pressed together. She hesitated, eyes lowering slightly.
That subtle pang of disappointment... it still came.
"Professor Morrow, isn't your husband picking you up today?" a curious student called out.
Caitlyn's brow twitched. Face darkening, she snapped, "What husband? He's just my assistant. Keep talking nonsense and I'll flunk you."
The girl immediately shut up.
Caitlyn clutched her books and strode out of the building.
A few students exchanged confused looks near the door.
"Yikes... Professor Morrow's in a really bad mood."
"She was so nice during class though."
"Clearly upset her husband didn't show up to walk her home."
"No doubt about it."
