"Still, I think Olivia should ease up," Helena suddenly said in a rare moment of seriousness.
"Both human and Demon leadership have agreed to a temporary truce to deal with the beast threat first. Maybe stop picking fights with Isaac?"
"He's the one who always starts it!" Olivia snapped defensively.
Niamh chimed in dryly, "Maybe he's into you. Picking fights to get your attention."
Olivia froze, and Helena immediately picked up the thread, eyes gleaming. "Exactly! Why not just ask him directly? If he does like you, you two could be the face of a new era—love bridging two races. A symbol of peace and unity. Historic stuff!"
Olivia looked even more stunned.
Germaine clapped her hands. "Yes! The Great Reconciliation of the Century! Fusion! Peace! Together!"
Her gaze burned as it landed on Leon and Caitlyn.
Helena flinched. 'What the hell just set her off like that?'
"Like hell I'd date him!" Olivia snapped, face flushed.
Caitlyn furrowed her brows. Why did this scene feel so... familiar?
After the meal, generous Leon handed out a yogurt drink to everyone—on Caitlyn's dime.
According to her, last month's paycheck had already been spent on damages and compensation anyway.
But whatever. Rich or poor, he was using Caitlyn's card, eating her food, living under her roof... well, not literally sleeping with her yet.
The Caitlyn-brand pillow was still a dream yet to come.
Even without crossing any lines, just falling asleep in her arms would probably feel like pure bliss.
"What're you staring at?" Caitlyn snapped when she caught him looking again.
It was satisfying.
"Thanks, Leon," Helena said sweetly.
Caitlyn's face darkened. Her fists clenched. Her eyes went cold.
Leon's eyes flicked to her hair, half-expecting it to suddenly turn white...
No, scratch that—if it did turn white, he might get launched out the window.
"Don't thank me," he said. "Thank Professor Morrow. I'm broke. All of this is on her."
The three girls paused, their expressions quickly shifting into something... complicated.
Watching Leon speak so shamelessly, with pride even, left them speechless.
They'd wondered if Caitlyn had connections to land a teaching job. But turns out, he was the one freeloading.
Then again... maybe it was just playful teasing between a couple. Honestly, they were kind of jealous.
Helena took a big gulp of yogurt and declared, "One day, when I have the money, I'm gonna keep a whole pack of pretty boys. Not just one—wolf boys, soft boys, you name it."
"Ambitious," Niamh muttered.
Olivia covered her face, dying inside. 'Please don't know me. I don't know these two clowns.'
"You guys are really close," Germaine said with a laugh.
"Well, our dorm's one person short. Gotta stick together so no one bullies us," Helena said, throwing an arm around both girls like it was the most natural thing.
One deadpan, one introvert. What a combo.
"With Olivia around, who's gonna bully you?" Caitlyn asked, amused.
"You sure it's not them bullying the school?" Leon added.
"We're not crabs. Still, sticking together's not a bad idea."
"True," Caitlyn nodded. "You guys will probably have a large joint training event by the end of the year. When that comes, trust between teammates will matter most."
Leon visibly stiffened, his energy draining in real time.
Yeah... trust.
Caitlyn's eye twitched. She saw the light fade from his eyes and panicked a little.
She got up, walked over, and saw his downcast face. After a moment's hesitation, she reached down and gently held his hand.
Helena saw and grinned, whispering, "Professor Morrow and Leon are so cute."
"We're heading out," Caitlyn muttered quickly, her cheeks blooming into a beautiful pink as she glanced at Germaine.
"Don't mind me," Germaine waved. "I'll stay and chat with these adorable kids. You got this, Caitlyn."
Caitlyn pursed her lips, grabbed Leon, and dragged him outside.
'These people and their dirty minds...'
She was just comforting a friend. That's all.
Such pure emotions shouldn't be tainted with pervy assumptions...
Suddenly, she froze mid-step. Her shoulders stiffened. "Did you just... pinch me?" she asked, turning slowly.
Leon's eyes flickered with guilt—then he quickly looked miserable again. "Ugh... I feel awful. Maybe I'm just a terrible person. That's why I got betrayed..."
Caitlyn squinted at him, narrowing her eyes. She stared into his like she was trying to read his soul. Then she sighed and dragged him toward the parking lot.
"The problem wasn't you. It was the trash you cut to pieces—and the maggots obsessed with power, money, and status."
"But I was the one betrayed," Leon said softly. "If I was really capable, how did they all turn on me? Why didn't anyone warn me?"
Caitlyn clenched her jaw. The pink on her cheeks crept all the way to her ears.
"You're good enough for me. Got it?" she shouted, flustered and defiant—but didn't dare look him in the eye.
Leon blinked. Something warm and syrupy spread through his chest, thick and sticky, yet sweet. It tingled through his veins and left him dizzy, breathless... and awake.
He opened his mouth, the gloom fading from his face. Watching her golden hair flutter in the wind and feeling the warmth of her hand... he smiled.
"Caitlyn... you're really something else."
Her ears turned redder, like a little snack perfectly steamed and ready to eat.
"Go get the car," she muttered. "We're going home..."
