"Dewayne? What are you doing here?" Leon raised an eyebrow, surprised to see the boy striding up with such enthusiasm.
His gaze drifted to the girl walking beside Dewayne, whose expression was utterly unreadable.
'What was her name again?' Leon wondered.
"Professor Morrow," Dewayne greeted respectfully, forcing himself not to glance Leon's way. He bowed slightly to Caitlyn, his eyes naturally catching on the pair's interlocked hands. The corners of his lips lifted.
'So Leon's really making progress, huh...'
"Hello," Caitlyn nodded coolly. Her tone wasn't rude, just distant—that typical chill she reserved for strangers.
That coldness had nothing to do with pride. It was simply Caitlyn being... Caitlyn.
Only one man somehow managed to provoke her into boiling red on a weekly basis—he must be some kind of gifted idiot.
As if on cue, Caitlyn squinted at the hand tightly gripping hers.
'This fool's holding on like I'll vanish if he lets go...'
Thank goodness her willpower was solid enough not to get swayed by this clingy idiot.
She conveniently forgot how she'd just spent over an hour gleefully dressing Leon up like a life-sized paper doll.
"Professor Morrow. Leon."
The aloof girl beside Dewayne finally spoke, her voice crisp.
"This is Niamh. A... friend. She's also a student here."
"Ah, right, the class rep's bestie." Leon gave a knowing nod, his lips twitching upward in a sly smirk as he turned to Dewayne.
"Didn't expect this from you, man. Thick eyebrows, but sneaky moves."
Dewayne kept a straight face. "Leon, you've got it wrong. Niamh and I went to middle school together back in Asrita. I only just found out she's at Ekavine Academy too.
We're just catching up."
Niamh gave a polite nod to confirm.
"Sure, nothing to say here," Dewayne quickly deflected. "But what about you? Out shopping with Professor Morrow—this a date or what?"
He tossed Leon a look, lips curled mischievously.
'Just missing a wink and a thumbs-up...'
Caitlyn caught the glint in Dewayne's eyes and instinctively stepped a little closer to Leon.
Something about this guy felt... off.
She cleared her throat, about to speak, when Leon puffed up proudly and beat her to it. "That's right. Look—everything I'm wearing, Caitlyn bought for me. Cost a fortune!"
He lifted his shopping bags like trophies, glowing with childish pride.
He looked like a kid showing off his sticker collection after a trip to the toy store.
"Oh wow... Professor Morrow really spoils you," Dewayne deadpanned.
Then he frowned slightly. 'Wait... isn't this dynamic backwards?'
Still, he shrugged off the thought. Who cared? Leon was a hero—role model behavior was exempt from logic.
Fanboying had no rules.
Caitlyn gave Leon a long, deadpan stare. 'Says it like he's not paying her back...'
If he even dared try skipping the tab, she'd make him pay—in battle and in rent.
Demon Lord revenge wasn't pretty.
And this idiot was so defenseless now, she could totally slip something in his drink, no effort needed.
'Strike while he's weak,' as the saying went.
Tie him up and collect the emotional debt with interest.
Honestly, even if she drugged him right in front of him, he'd probably gulp it down with a smile.
Demons weren't known for their mercy. Caitlyn certainly wasn't.
Her crimson eyes darkened with sudden fire.
'Her butt really had been sore for days after that fight...'
"Excuse me!" Niamh suddenly raised her hand, startling everyone.
"Yes?" Caitlyn answered instinctively, momentarily flashing back to teacher mode.
"Can I take a picture with you two? Just... to show off a little."
She pulled out a camera from her bag. "I'm actually part of the Leon & Caitlyn Forever Support Club."
Caitlyn's lips twitched. Finally, her poker face cracked.
"That... is an incredibly weird club name."
"C'mon, let's take one." Leon gently tugged at Caitlyn's arm, trying to pull her closer. She resisted, eyeing him sideways.
Leon sighed dramatically. "Can't best friends be forever too? Caitlyn, you don't believe in everlasting friendship?"
She didn't respond, but inched toward him—just a little.
They were already standing so close that Leon only needed to tilt his head slightly to kiss the crown of her hair.
He discreetly inhaled her scent. She always smelled... warm. Familiar. Addictive.
Dewayne stared at the pair with a conflicted expression. 'These two are 'friends'? Right. And I'm the Queen of Solaris.'
"Dewayne, wanna join?" Niamh asked casually.
"Sure!" Dewayne darted to Leon's other side, shuffling closer with each step, cheeks turning pink.
'So happy. I'm in the same picture as my idol...'
Still, he respectfully kept a healthy distance from Caitlyn. Niamh would roast him alive if he didn't.
Niamh adjusted the camera, extending her arm.
"Three, two, one... Now kiss!"
"Just kidding."
After the picture, the two slipped away without accepting Leon's offer for dinner.
Dewayne looked mildly regretful, but obediently followed Niamh.
Leon, on the other hand, was more than fine with it. Dinner for two was a rare treat.
At the hotpot place, Leon eyed the bubbling broth, then glanced at Caitlyn.
"Tired of my crappy cooking, huh? Time to give your poor stomach a break."
Caitlyn silently picked up a piece of meat, dropped it into his mouth, and muttered, "Shut up and eat."
She always ate what he made. Every time.
As Leon chewed the flavorful meat—far better than his own attempts—he peeked at her plate, lips curling into a grin. "You're not gonna stop eating my cooking now that you've tasted something good, are you?"
"Shut it."
"I'll keep improving..."
"Talk too much." Caitlyn huffed, then paused mid-bite.
She realized... the utensils.
A soft pink bloomed across her cheeks. Her skin was glowing, her lips glossy and warm.
'Damn him.' She slapped Leon's thigh hard.
'Ugh, seriously—this idiot! He threw me off so badly I completely forgot... That was basically an indirect kiss...! Ugh!' she thought.
Leon silently accepted the blow, rubbing his leg as he whispered to himself, A smack's just a kiss with extra enthusiasm.
