Leon tried to keep his cool as he scooped up some hot water and poured it over Caitlyn's skin.
Her eyes fluttered, and her cheeks looked as red as ripe cherries.
Leon teased, "I'm just helping you get in the water faster, okay? Or did you think I'm some kind of weirdo with a foot fetish?"
Caitlyn didn't say a word but just stared at him, her face burning bright red.
She was literally screaming inside. 'Is he some kind of weirdo? How can he just touch my feet like it's nothing... Seriously, this is so out of line, so inappropriate, so shameless!'
Caitlyn bit her lip, her eyes shimmering as she watched Leon carefully washing her feet. Her heart was in turmoil, but no matter what, she just couldn't bring herself to feel any disgust toward him.
All she felt was a flood of embarrassment and a mess of complicated feelings she couldn't even begin to untangle.
She couldn't believe how composed Leon seemed with what he was doing.
Seeing her slowly relax and stop trembling, Leon gently supported her soft, tender feet and eased them into the water.
"How's that?" he gently asked.
Caitlyn lightly hummed, feeling cozy to the extreme.
Her reply was barely a whisper. Leon didn't even need to look up to know that Caitlyn's face had to be redder than the brightest spring flower.
Honestly, it was hilarious—he was blushing as well, and he didn't even dare look up.
The warm, gentle atmosphere wrapped around them like moonlight, quietly tugging at both their hearts.
Time ticked by, and in that strange, delicate air, subtle feelings quietly grew between them.
Caitlyn gently swirled her feet in the hot water, her eyes narrowing a bit from the heat, but she stubbornly kept them in, refusing to pull out just yet.
Leon kept an eye on the time. Once he figured her feet had bathed long enough, he grabbed a towel and looked up at her. "That's probably enough. Bathing too long isn't good for you."
Caitlyn's cheeks turned red as she nodded, looking a little dazed.
Leon cleared his throat, carefully lifted her fair, tender feet, and gently dried them off. He kept himself in check, not letting his hands linger, then tucked her feet under the blanket.
Once he'd finished, Leon let out a long breath, picked up the bucket, and got ready to pour out the water.
Suddenly, Caitlyn reached out and gently grabbed his hand, her eyes lowered as she softly asked, "Why don't you have a footbath too? It'll help warm yourself up a bit..."
Leon nodded. "You've got a point."
Leon pressed his lips together, fetched some more hot water, and poured it into the same bucket Caitlyn had just used. He checked the temperature with his hand.
Then, he plopped down beside her, pulled off his socks, and dunked them right into the water after taking a deep breath.
A shiver ran through Leon, like a jolt of electricity shooting up his spine, leaving him feeling wide awake as he gasped.
Sure, his body was tough enough to heal even wounds from the laws of magic, but that didn't mean he was numb to everything.
In day-to-day life, his kind was pretty much like regular people—catching colds, or, like Caitlyn right now, dealing with cramps.
Caitlyn stared at Leon in disbelief. 'This guy... is actually using my foot bath bucket? Doesn't he mind at all?'
Her cheeks were still tinged with blush. Honestly, she felt a little secretly pleased by how comfortable he was with her.
He was so undisguised and direct, but she wasn't about to let him win that easily.
As far as she was concerned, love was something the lovers only started if they were ready to spend their whole life together, to face life and death side by side. Otherwise, it wasn't worth it.
She thought that she and Leon were just two people who'd known each other for over a decade, fought for just as long, only recently started living together, and maybe had a hint of something more than friendship, and she wasn't about to fall for him that easily.
Meanwhile, as Leon looked at his feet bathing in the water, a random thought popped into his head.
He was amused as he blurted out, "Got nail fungus? It spreads to two of us."
"I do not have nail fungus!" Caitlyn shot him a glare, instantly indignant. She had no idea where that nonsense came from.
Leon grinned. "It just popped into my head, that's all. I never said you had... Actually, your foot bath might be the only thing that could purify my stinky feet, Lady Caitlyn."
Caitlyn fell silent, her lips trembling as she struggled for words. After a long moment, her face flushed bright red, and she finally blurted, "You... you idiot! Always spouting nonsense!"
She wondered, 'Purify his stinky feet? What is he even talking about? Has he lost his mind?'
Leon sighed. "Hey, I was just trying to say something to make you happy, and now I'm getting scolded... It makes me so sad, so heartbroken. I'll probably be up all night."
Leon pouted, looking all wronged, then quickly glanced at her and muttered in a voice just loud enough for Caitlyn to hear, "If someone let me hold her hand or something... maybe I could actually get a good night's sleep."
Caitlyn didn't even look at him. She hugged her pillow and stared blankly at the TV.
Leon wasn't in any rush. He planted his hand on the sofa and slowly crept it toward her like a sneaky crab.
Before he knew it, his hand had crawled onto her pillow, and he started gently, almost absentmindedly, brushing the back of Caitlyn's hand.
She immediately whipped her head around and glared at him, but Leon didn't back down at all. He even met her fierce gaze head-on and grabbed her hand, holding it in his palm.
It felt so soft and smooth that he started to wonder what kind of diet she kept to have such cute hands.
Caitlyn glared at him, cheeks puffed out in anger, her emotions getting the better of her as she shouted, "You're so cheeky!"
Leon smirked. "Lady Caitlyn, don't forget you've still got those cream puffs I bought sitting in your stomach. You've already taken my stuff, can't you at least give me a little peace of mind?"
Caitlyn wasn't convinced. "That was with my money! And you said they were to make up for coming home so late! That doesn't count!"
Leon didn't back down. "Well... I drove all the way out just to bring them back for you. That's gotta be worth at least a hand-hold, right?"
"You're utterly cheeky!" Caitlyn's face turned even redder, but she just couldn't think of any better comebacks—her vocabulary for insults was way too limited.
Leon just grinned, eyes squinting in delight. "Thanks for the compliment."
"How could you..." Caitlyn was so mad she almost saw stars. She was about to turn away and sulk when a sudden, sharp pain shot through her lower belly.
Her voice caught, her pupils shrank, and she instinctively held her breath as her flushed face rapidly turned pale.
