Leon wondered, 'Honestly, the best way would be to just cuddle up with this soft, sweet-smelling Lord Caitlyn, get under the covers together, and fall asleep side by side. That way, I could take care of her all night...
'But if I actually did that, chances are, I'd wake up tomorrow with Caitlyn's hands around my throat.
'It'd be murder in my sleep...'
So, for the sake of his own life—and to keep Caitlyn from getting weirded out by him—Leon held back the urge to climb into bed with her.
It was only when he was holding her like this that he realized just how light she really was. He had no idea why she was always stressing about her weight and trying to watch her figure. Honestly, she'd be better off eating more.
As he gently laid her down on the bed, Leon was just about to get up when he ran into a bit of an awkward situation.
The same blonde who acted like she couldn't stand him when she was awake was now clinging to him and refusing to let go.
Leon licked his lips, staring at her face so close to his. His heart skipped a beat, and he felt a little conflicted.
He pondered, 'Should I just lie down next to her? It's not like I want to... I just can't get away, so I'd have no choice but to reluctantly sleep with her. So if she wakes up tomorrow, she can't really blame me, right?'
Just as he was thinking that, Caitlyn's eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes slowly opened.
Their eyes met, and for a few long seconds, the air was thick with silence.
Leon braced himself to break the silence. "First off, I was just trying to get you back to your room to sleep. Second, I wasn't trying to sneak a kiss or anything. I'm only in this position because you were holding onto me, and I didn't want to wake you up by pulling your arm away."
Caitlyn didn't say a word. She just blushed, quickly let go of him, rolled over, and turned her back to Leon, clearly not wanting to talk.
Leon let out a sigh of relief, but he couldn't help feeling a little disappointed inside.
He supposed that really would've been the perfect chance to steal a kiss.
Leon glanced at motionless Caitlyn on the bed, sighed, pulled the blanket over her, and reminded her, "If you're not feeling well, just text me... I'll come right away. Don't just suffer in silence and keep it to yourself... Of course, if you really want, I guess I could stay with you tonight... if you insist."
Caitlyn grabbed her pillow and tossed it at him without even turning around.
Leon caught it easily and tucked it back under her head.
"Guess that's a no... But seriously, if you're really feeling awful, don't keep it bottled up anymore. Make sure you stay under the covers, and don't catch a cold." After saying that, he stood by the bed and watched Caitlyn for a moment before quietly leaving the room.
Hearing the bedroom door close, Caitlyn, her eyes squeezed shut and lashes trembling, finally let the tension drain from her body.
She slowly opened her eyes, a slight frown on her face, her gaze swirling with a mess of tangled emotions.
Suddenly, the door swung open again. Then, with a soft snap, the bedroom light went out. Leon peeked in and whispered, "Good night."
Caitlyn didn't say a thing when the door clicked shut once more.
The room was swallowed by darkness. Caitlyn let out a long breath, closed her eyes again, and muttered under her breath, "You jerk... good night..."
It was a silent night, but there was still something going on.
At two in the morning, Leon quietly got up in the dark. He hesitated for a moment outside Caitlyn's door, then gently pushed it open and slipped inside.
Caitlyn was curled up in bed, frowning, half-awake and groggy.
Seeing her like that, Leon went out to make her some ginger tea. When he sat down beside her, Caitlyn immediately woke up.
In the darkness, their eyes met.
"What... are you doing?" Caitlyn hugged her blanket tighter, her voice soft and a little weak. Her lips were pressed together, and the discomfort from the pain lingered between her brows.
Leon let out a huff, trying to hide his worry as he teased, "I'm just worried the stubborn Lord Caitlyn will spend the whole night suffering alone, then wake up tomorrow and give me the silent treatment."
He paused, looking at Caitlyn's pitiful face. After holding back for a moment, he couldn't help but soften.
"Have some ginger tea. I added brown sugar—had it delivered," Leon said, slowly offering her the glass.
Caitlyn didn't move; her eyes lowered. The room was pitch black, so he couldn't see her expression.
Leon sighed, gently brought the glass to her lips, and pampered her, "Just take a sip, okay? At least warm yourself up..."
Caitlyn refused, "I never used to drink this."
"And so what?" Leon suddenly glared at her. "You'd rather just tough it out all night? Finish it, or I'll spank you!"
"You..." Caitlyn bit her lip, staring at him with a mix of embarrassment and grievance.
After a moment, she finally gave in...
Caitlyn took a small sip, wrinkling her nose as she whispered, "It's hot..."
"What a delicate tongue you've got there..." Leon muttered under his breath, gently blowing across the surface of the drink.
When he tried it just now, it seemed perfectly fine to him.
Caitlyn sat on the bed with her legs tucked under her, blinking as she stared at him, her eyes flickering with a faint red glow in the darkness.
The soft sound of him blowing on the drink lingered in the air. He looked so focused, so serious—like he cared about her without even realizing it.
She couldn't help but wonder, 'Right now, he's being so gentle. If only he'd fussed over me like this during the day, maybe I wouldn't have felt so down...
'But I have no idea where he went today. He didn't even say a word to me...
'I don't want some stupid surprise at all. He's so annoying... All I want is for him to just stay with me as a friend or whatever. If he just gave me a little comfort, I'd be very happy.'
Caitlyn slowly clenched her fists, feeling even more restless and upset. 'But even so... Why am I so upset? Do I even have the right to be mad at Leon?
'He told me he was going out before he left, and said I could message him if I needed anything...
'It's just me being stubborn, letting all those weird feelings get to me, refusing to ask when he'd be back, and sulking alone all day.
'But... why do I still feel so upset? Why do I keep hoping Leon would come talk to me first...
'Are we just friends... Can someone really get this attached to just a friend...'
Leon said, "Alright now. Give it a try again..."
Caitlyn quietly took the glass and sipped at it, little by little.
The warm ginger tea slid down, spreading heat through her stomach and making her feel a bit better.
Honestly, it was probably just the hot water doing the trick, but adding some sugar definitely made it taste nicer.
Leon watched as she drank about half the ginger tea before stopping, and he gently shook his head.
He took the glass and set it on the nightstand, then turned to look at Caitlyn sitting on the bed—so delicate and fragile, like a breeze could knock her over. In all these years, he'd never seen her like this.
He asked softly, "Want me to warm your tummy again?"
Caitlyn clutched the blanket, eyes downcast, not saying a word.
Leon took a quiet breath, then just bent down and pulled her into his arms as he got onto the bed, not caring about her shyness or whatever was going on in her head.
Caitlyn was startled, her face turning red as she tried to squirm away.
Leon pretended he was about to kiss her, and she immediately went still.
He calmly wrapped the blanket around her, his hands circling her waist and resting on her soft belly, gently rubbing to ease her discomfort.
Leaning against his chest, Caitlyn found she couldn't even muster the will to push him away.
She stared into the darkness, her eyes full of complicated emotions, struggling inside, wondering why she was acting so weird.
She muttered, "You perv..."
Leon said helplessly, "Yeah, yeah, I'm a perv, a creep, a total scoundrel... But I promise not to lay a finger on you tonight, Lady Caitlyn. So be good and get some sleep, okay? Rest a bit more."
Caitlyn hesitated for a short while before uttering, "You can't sleep in the same bed as me."
If he did, then she really couldn't keep lying to herself that they were still just innocent friends.
Leon was quiet for a moment, then said softly, "I'll leave once you're asleep..."
"Leon..." Noticing Leon's disappointment, Caitlyn's eyes flickered, but her lips froze, and the words she wanted to say caught in her throat.
Leon raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
Caitlyn slowly reached out and gently wrapped her fingers around one of his, the hand he had resting on her belly.
Leon smiled, turned his hand over, and closed his palm around her hand.
'It's just holding hands... As long as our fingers aren't laced together, we're still just innocent friends...' Caitlyn secretly reassured herself, snuggling into his arms as her eyes drifted shut.
"Good night, my Lady Caitlyn..." His soft whisper brushed her ear, but whether the sleeping girl heard it or not, no one could say.
