The first rays of morning sun filtered through layers of thin clouds, landing on Leon's face. He squinted, standing on the balcony, soaking up the sunlight.
He let himself be a little silly, and it felt pretty great, honestly.
Strangely enough, even after cuddling with Caitlyn last night, he still didn't sleep well.
He spent the whole night worrying if she was uncomfortable.
While the golden-haired girl was none the wiser, Leon snuck into her room at least ten times.
He'd tuck her in, make sure the water by her bed stayed warm.
He'd never been this thoughtful with anyone—not even a mother he never got to meet. Of course, being an orphan, he never had the chance.
No one had ever taken care of him like this, either. The closest he'd gotten was a few teammates whom he thought were being nice.
Thinking of that, Leon let out a sneer. "Not that it ever bothered me!"
Once his head cleared a bit, Leon stood outside Caitlyn's door and knocked softly. He waited, but there was only silence.
He thought, 'Alright, no answer means it's fine.'
He pushed the door open, slipped inside, and closed it behind him—smooth and practiced.
He walked over to the bed and looked down at Caitlyn, who was sleeping soundly. Her golden hair was scattered across the sheets, catching the light like the finest silk.
Her brows were slightly furrowed, her lips parted in steady breaths, her chest rising and falling calmly. She was sleeping much better than she had earlier that night.
Without thinking, Leon reached out and gently brushed her cheek, letting out a quiet sigh.
She hadn't seemed this uncomfortable last month.
"Keep frowning like that and you'll get wrinkles..." he murmured.
Muttering softly to himself, Leon finally tore himself away from that gentle warmth and stepped out to make breakfast.
After checking in with Germaine and snagging a recipe from her, Leon made his way to the kitchen.
Egg soup was simple to whip up, not nearly as much hassle as other dishes, and honestly, it tasted great and warmed people right up.
Leon followed the recipe carefully, and the end result turned out pretty well. He took a taste—yep, not bad at all.
Then it was time to go wake up Caitlyn.
Back in the room, Leon's gaze landed on Caitlyn's soft, delicate lips. For a split second, he pictured waking her with a kiss, and couldn't help but wonder when their relationship might get to that point.
Leon gently cupped her cheek, his voice soft as he called out to her, "Caitlyn, time to get up..."
Thinking back, every time they met in the past, it was all swords drawn and charging headfirst. He never would've guessed he'd end up caring for her so tenderly one day.
Honestly, Caitlyn back then was just as ruthless to him. She probably never imagined she'd ever let her guard down like this in front of him, showing such a vulnerable, endearing side.
Caitlyn's lashes fluttered as she slowly opened her eyes, a misty haze clouding her gaze. All she could make out was a blurry figure standing by her bed.
Instinctively, she tilted her face and nuzzled into Leon's hand, but the next second, her mind snapped awake, and her whole body went stiff.
Leon's heart just melted at her cat-like nuzzle and that adorable expression—he couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. "Good morning, Sleeping Beauty. Breakfast is ready."
Honestly, he never thought he'd turn into such a hopeless sap.
But Caitlyn's face was turning visibly red.
After a night's sleep, all the memories from last night came crashing back into her mind like a tidal wave.
Only now did she really process just how intimate things had gotten between her and Leon, how much her emotions had been swayed by her period, and how that one hug from him had left her completely flustered.
Caitlyn glanced up at him, trembling, only to see this infuriating man looking as calm as ever, blinking innocently at her as if nothing had happened.
Her cheeks turned so red; she was drowning in embarrassment all over.
Caitlyn yanked the covers over her head, curling up underneath, her face twisted in silent agony.
She thought hopelessly, 'Damn it! I must've lost my mind yesterday!'
Leon stared at her for a moment, then pulled the blanket back, revealing Caitlyn's head.
She squeezed her eyes shut, lips pressed tight, her face blazing red, determined to ignore him no matter what.
Leon went on, "Breakfast is ready. Have it while it's hot. It's sweet eggs—I tried one, and it's actually pretty good."
"Alright, looks like you want me to feed you," Leon said, picking up the bowl.
Caitlyn's eyes flew open, and she glared at him. "You're so cheeky!"
Leon said calmly, "Maybe so, but even if I am, I'm sure the breakfast I made is okay. Just try a bite, Lady Caitlyn. If you don't like it, we can order takeout or something else, alright?"
He didn't look the least bit upset or defensive—his voice was calm, his eyes gentle, as he scooped up some soup and held it out to her.
Hearing his gentle voice and meeting those soft eyes, Caitlyn's heart couldn't help but tremble.
She wondered, 'Why doesn't he ever talk back...
'He's so gentle, it just makes me feel like I'm being difficult... or just plain mean...
'Trying to pick a fight and running into that kind of sincerity... it just makes me feel even guiltier.'
And the calmer and gentler Leon was, the more it felt like he was hiding countless grievances underneath.
For a moment, Caitlyn just wanted to crawl into a hole. She had no idea why she had to blurt that out.
Leon had been so thoughtful, so caring, so gentle with her all this time, and she still snapped at him.
She started to question herself if she was really that much of a bad person.
Leon urged gently, "Come on, just open up and have a bite, okay?"
Caitlyn's eyes flickered. Feeling the warmth of the spoonful of egg soup at her lips, she quietly opened her mouth and took a sip.
The sweet, comforting soup slid down, instantly making her feel warmer and more at ease.
"I can do it myself..." With that, she quietly sat up.
Leon acted like he didn't hear her and just kept feeding her anyway.
Caitlyn bit her lip, staring at him for a moment. Her cheeks were flushed, but she didn't resist anymore.
The guilt inside was overwhelming. She just couldn't say no to him now.
Leon kept a calm face as he fed her, but inside, he was laughing his head off.
This was all part of the plan.
Honestly, Caitlyn was right to call him cheeky.
Leon knew she'd overthink things and feel bad for him, so he just accepted everything and acted extra caring.
However, Leon just wanted to get a little closer to Caitlyn, and he believed there was nothing wrong with it.
He'd spent the whole night quietly checking if she was okay, then got up early to make her breakfast. He supposed even her father probably wouldn't go this far for her, and he was once again impressed by how smart he was.
Caitlyn snuck a glance at Leon as she took tiny sips of the egg soup, and suddenly noticed the deep dark circles under his eyes.
Usually, if she snuggled up to him a bit, Leon would sleep like a log. But today, those dark circles under his eyes were so obvious.
Clever Caitlyn only needed a moment to figure it out, and the more she thought about it, the more tangled her feelings became—and the guilt just kept growing.
She thought, 'All my pouting and little tantrums yesterday were honestly kind of pointless. Even though Leon was out all day, he was actually busy preparing a surprise for me.
'He even brought back my favorite cream puffs when he got home, and after dealing with my moodiness, he still took such good care of me.
'Thinking about it now, he's the one who really got the short end of the stick...'
