Caitlyn was suddenly hit with a wave of self-doubt, wondering if she was really a bad person.
Seeing she'd stopped eating, Leon asked her softly, "Are you full?"
Caitlyn gave a tiny nod, her expression complicated as she looked at him.
Leon glanced down—there was still half an egg left in her bowl.
Without any hesitation, he picked up the half-egg and downed it in one go.
Caitlyn's eyes widened, and a visible blush crept up her cheeks. Her lips parted, like she wanted to say something, but in the end, she just pressed them together, shooting him a long, embarrassed glare.
She speculated with resentment, 'This guy totally did that on purpose!
'Why did he have to do it right in front of me?
'Couldn't he just sneak it away and eat it somewhere else? I already ate half that egg, and he still...'
Leon even smacked his lips a couple times, like he was savoring the taste, looking completely satisfied.
He lamented proudly, "No surprise there—my cooking's always delicious!"
'Is that really what he's proud of? I don't even want to call him out on it!' With that thought in mind, Caitlyn pouted, hugging her knees in silence.
After a while, she muttered, "I don't think I've even brushed my teeth yet."
"Just brush after you eat, it's the same thing," Leon said, pulling out his phone. "How about we push today's class back a bit? I'll let Arwen know."
Leon didn't even give Caitlyn a chance to say no, and Caitlyn's eyes looked even more aggrieved.
The room went quiet. Leon sat at the edge of the bed, not leaving, just quietly taking in the soft scent of her room and soaking in the peacefulness.
Caitlyn pressed her lips together, feeling a little awkward, but with Leon there, the room really did feel a lot warmer.
Outside, the rain was still falling, tapping against the window, and the sky looked especially gloomy.
But honestly, today felt so much better than yesterday.
Yesterday, sitting all alone in the living room, she just felt so cold. She kept waiting and waiting, but Leon never came home.
The rain kept pouring outside, the sky so dark it felt like the end of the world.
She'd never felt so lonely in this house before.
Even though she used to live by herself all the time, Leon barged in and threw her routine off.
Now, with him there, she actually felt safe.
Too bad her relief didn't last long—soon enough, a fresh wave of cramps hit her lower belly. Caitlyn's brows knit together as she instinctively curled up.
Leon had just gotten to his feet, ready to scoop her up and resume his duty from yesterday: giving her a gentle tummy massage.
But Caitlyn was faster—she darted under the covers, wrapping herself up tight, leaving only her eyes peeking out at him.
He paused for a moment, then let out a helpless sigh.
He'd barely sat back down, ready to sulk, when something soft suddenly wrapped around his finger.
Leon glanced down to see Caitlyn quietly holding his index finger, her gaze flicking away. A blush bloomed across her cheeks, soft and warm like the evening glow rippling over a lake.
He couldn't help but chuckle softly at how cute the way she acted.
Leon turned his hand over, gently enclosing her hand in his. It was moments like this that really made him realize just how delicate Caitlyn was.
Her hand just felt like a kitten's claw, absolutely adorable.
Leon asked, "Are you sure you don't want me to give you a tummy rub?"
"This is enough..." Caitlyn mumbled, her brows suddenly knitting together again. She shot him a quick, embarrassed glance, her expression growing shy.
"What's wrong?" asked Leon worriedly.
Caitlyn took a deep breath, looked away, and whispered, "Can you step out for a minute..."
Leon's face went stiff for a second, and he blurted out, "Wow, you sure turn on a dime!"
Caitlyn clenched her teeth and shot him a furious glare. "I need to change!"
"I mean, I could stay while you change... Alright, alright, I'm going." Leon reacted fast enough.
When he saw Caitlyn's icy, murderous stare, Leon decided to quit while he was ahead.
He'd already learned his lesson yesterday—better keep his mouth in check today.
As he reached the door, Caitlyn hesitated, her lips moving before she couldn't help but call out, "Wait, you..."
But as soon as she spoke, she froze, not sure what to say next.
Leon glanced back at her with a gentle smile. "You can hold my hand as long as you want, Caitlyn."
"I-I don't want to!" she shot back, flustered.
A moment later, Caitlyn came out wrapped in a coat, clutching a bundle in her arms. She shot a quick look at Leon, who was standing guard at the door like a sentry, then hurried off to the bathroom.
Leon rubbed his nose and kept quiet. He figured if he teased this cute blonde any more, he might not be allowed back in the bedroom later.
After washing up with warm water and changing into clean sleep shorts, Caitlyn let out a long breath. Staring at her rosy cheeks in the mirror, she noticed her eyes were a little misty.
She wondered if their relationship was really still that innocent.
Her gaze flickered as she pressed a hand to her chest, the confusion in her eyes only deepening.
She'd just decided to keep her heart steady, to hold her ground and stay alone, but now, what was she even feeling anymore?
The more she thought about it, the more frustrated she got. As another wave of pain hit, Caitlyn splashed her face with water, wrapped herself up, and stepped out again.
She shook her head, trying to get rid of all that thinking. 'Forget it, it's just making my head hurt...'
But the moment she stepped outside, she ran right into the guy who always managed to mess with her feelings.
She asked grumpily, "Are you my shadow or something?"
"If you say so," Leon said nonchalantly.
Leon hesitated, half wanting to pull her into a hug, half too nervous to try.
Last night, Caitlyn had been so upset and vulnerable that he'd finally dared to hug her and comfort her.
It had actually worked out pretty well, but now, seeing her looking just like her usual self, he couldn't help but get cold feet again.
While he was still hesitating, Caitlyn had already walked around him and was heading for the bedroom.
Gritting his teeth, Leon spun around and scooped her up from behind.
Caitlyn's breath caught, her lips trembling. She was just about to say something when Leon cut her off. "Yeah, yeah, call me a perv if you want. No talking. I'll put you down once we're in the room."
Caitlyn went quiet, her cheeks burning. By the time she finally thought of a comeback, they were already at the bedroom, and Leon kept his word and set her down.
Caitlyn fumed, feeling totally powerless—like throwing punches at a pillow. All she could do was glare at Leon.
She couldn't even get the words out to scold him.
Seeing her cheeks flushed red, Leon couldn't help but say, "Why don't you just yell at me? Don't bottle it up and make yourself feel worse."
Caitlyn rolled her eyes, turned over so her back was to him, and refused to say a word.
"Not holding my hand anymore?" Leon teased.
Since she wouldn't make a move, Leon just took the lead himself, shamelessly sitting on the edge of the bed and gently leaning against her.
The bedroom fell quiet again.
The sound of rain tapping against the window made everything feel extra cozy. With someone who made her feel safe by her side, even the white noise was soothing.
Caitlyn kept her back to Leon, her expression complicated, but she never pulled her hand away from his tight grip.
"Are you leaving today?" she asked quietly.
Leon was silent for a moment, then shook his head. "No, I'm staying with you."
She muttered, "I'm not a little kid, you know."
Leon grinned. "That's what you said yesterday, but you still waited for me all day like some sad puppy and didn't even text to say you weren't feeling well."
Caitlyn tried to argue, "I did not wait around all day like some sad puppy..."
Leon exposed her. "You looked like you were about to cry any second."
Caitlyn blushed. "That was just... because I wasn't feeling well! It's not like I missed you that much. And I definitely wasn't waiting and waiting and waiting for you to come home!"
Leon didn't dare say anything back.
He wondered, 'This dumb Lady Caitlyn just called herself out... She can't exactly throw a tantrum right after that, can she?'
Caitlyn's face was bright red, her eyes shimmering with tears.
Leon cleared his throat. "Honestly, I don't want to leave you either, Caitlyn. Don't get upset, or your belly's just going to start hurting again."
After a moment of silence, Caitlyn mumbled almost to herself, "If you just go out for a few hours and come back for dinner..."
Leon glanced down at her, but Caitlyn still had her back to him, refusing to look his way.
He said helplessly, "Alright, I'm really leaving now..."
Caitlyn's eyes flickered, and a hint of disappointment welled up in them.
Feeling her hand instinctively tighten around his, Leon grinned. "It's just a couple of hours this afternoon, I promise..."
Caitlyn tried to act cool. "You can stay out as long as you want. It's not like I have any reason to make you stay with me. It's not like I'm seriously sick or anything..."
"Want me to rub your tummy?" Leon suggested.
She went quiet.
Leon knew her too well—if she didn't say no, that was basically a yes.
