Leon escorted the ever-stubborn Caitlyn to class, and the students—whose lesson had been postponed a day—were all curious about why she'd missed yesterday.
In their minds, these two were basically the top dogs at Ekavine Academy, and those in the know would say their strength reached far beyond campus—maybe even the whole world.
The excuse Caitlyn gave for her dismissal was that she was sick.
Of course, Caitlyn wasn't about to spill the truth. That was where Leon came in—one sharp look from him, and all the nosy questions and chatter instantly died down. The room went quiet and obedient in a heartbeat.
Halfway through class, Leon and Caitlyn exchanged a quick signal and quietly slipped out the back door.
Caitlyn looked calm and unbothered on the surface, but deep down, she couldn't help but feel a tangle of emotions she couldn't quite put into words.
She hadn't even tried to chase him off today.
But that little bit of gloom vanished the moment Leon came to pick her up after class.
Leon showed up carrying a giant thermos, gently took her hand, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Caitlyn's hand stiffened for a second as she caught the teasing, knowing looks from the other students. Her cheeks grew warm.
But instead of letting go, she grabbed his hand and hurried him out of the building.
With winter closing in, the campus felt a lot colder, not just in temperature, but in atmosphere. The golden hues of autumn were fading, replaced by a crisp chill.
The number of people hadn't changed, but at Ekavine Academy, every season felt like a whole new world.
Caitlyn glanced at Leon, who was still being all mysterious, and couldn't help but give his waist a little pinch. "So, what's in there?" she huffed.
Leon winced, rubbing his side and shooting her a look. "I went to the kitchen and made you egg soup myself, and you still pinch me? That's gratitude for you..."
He cut himself off, muttering under his breath, "I might as well feed it to a cat."
He grunted inwardly. 'She can never be grateful, can she? She's just cute, that's it!'
Caitlyn blinked, looked away, then quietly took his hand again, trying to sound casual. "Where'd you get such a huge thermos?"
Leon said nonchalantly, "I snagged it from Germaine. She was about to make some weird health tea, but I swiped it first."
Germaine was still sulking. She'd just bought that thermos today, washed it, and before she even got to use it, Leon snatched it right out of her hands.
If Leon hadn't said it was for Caitlyn, even being the legendary Knight wouldn't have saved him—Germaine would've definitely made him pay, just to vent her anger.
But Caitlyn wasn't focused on that. Hearing Germaine's name again, she suddenly felt a weird, sour pang in her chest and muttered, "So, you and Germaine are pretty close now, huh?"
Leon smacked his lips, pretending to taste the air, and mumbled, "That's odd... why does it suddenly feel so sour in here... Is somebody jealous now?"
Caitlyn's face froze, and she pinched his waist again.
Leon gasped in pain. "Fine, my bad... Me and Germaine? Please, I only ever go to her to ask about you. Seriously, there's no need to be jealous, right?"
Leon's big mouth finally got him what he deserved.
Caitlyn snorted, "Stop flattering yourself. Why would I be jealous?"
Leon kept quiet. What could he even say? Totally nothing—while she was jealous.
Once she tasted the egg soup, Caitlyn's expression finally softened.
Leon sat with her for a bit, then tucked the warm water bottle into her arms, straightened up, and asked, "Want a belly massage? I've got to run some errands, but I'll be back for lunch."
Caitlyn hesitated before uttering, "Nope."
"Suit yourself." Leon turned and left without a second thought—talk about decisive.
For once, he actually managed to act like a cool guy.
Things had been going so well these past couple of days that he was practically on cloud nine—no need to rush.
He was thinking, 'It's all about taking it slow. Gotta warm the water little by little, until this little mermaid Caitlyn is all dazed and cozy... then gobble her right up.
'That's what tactics mean.
'All those people who call me reckless, brainless, or a bit of a goof? What nonsense. I'm actually really sharp!'
Caitlyn sat in her office, zoning out for a while. The quiet atmosphere made her frown, and out of nowhere, she felt a little lonely.
She grabbed her big thermos, poured some egg soup into the lid, and watched the steam rise—it was still nice and hot, thanks to the thermos.
Caitlyn licked her lips and took small sips, her eyes narrowing in satisfaction.
That sweet flavor tasted just like the one Leon fed her yesterday.
He didn't make it this morning, though. Today, she'd had Leon's congee for breakfast, which was pretty tasty too.
"What a househusband..." The words slipped out, and Caitlyn froze for a second before quickly shaking her head, trying to chase away that sudden thought.
'What husband... No way I'd let him turn into that!' She kept denying it in her mind, but her heart was racing for no reason.
After finishing the soup, she screwed the lid back on, held the thermos, and drifted off into another daze.
She really didn't want to look at those lesson plans.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Leon put on his chef's hat and marched over to Andre, looking ready for battle.
Andre grinned as Leon approached. "Hey, there! Let's get started—face the trial by fire and blade! For the one we love!"
Leon raised his big knife and shouted, "For the one we love!"
Andre's eye twitched. "Put that cleaver down—we don't need it today."
For some reason, Caitlyn just couldn't settle down today.
She rubbed her belly to make sure everything was fine, then stepped out the door, holding the massive thermos that was nearly a third her height.
It looked perfectly normal when Leon carried it, but in Caitlyn's arms, she had to cradle it like a giant stuffed animal, which instantly drew a lot of attention.
A blonde girl with fair and smooth skin, walking down the campus path with a huge thermos in her arms—even with her head held high, the contrast was impossible to miss.
Caitlyn didn't feel embarrassed at all. Her face was icy cold, but her aura was as strong as ever.
She was the prestigious Caitlyn. Even without Leon around, she was still plenty intimidating.
Some people wanted to pull out their phones to snap a picture, but their friends quickly stopped them.
After all, she was the infamous figure whose solo photos were absolutely banned online these days.
Rumor had it that anyone who dared sneak even a glance at her without permission would end up in the dungeons, let alone take a photo—might as well be signing their own death warrant.
But just then, a strikingly elegant figure stood out from the crowd, which automatically made way for Caitlyn, walking straight toward her.
Niamh strode over, her long legs perfectly shown off by her jeans, gripping Dewayne's wrist tightly as they hurried toward Caitlyn.
Caitlyn stopped in her tracks, looking at the two in front of her. Her expression stayed frosty, but there was a flicker of confusion in her eyes.
She recognized them.
Dewayne covered his face, not daring to look or speak, but Niamh got right to the point. "Professor Morrow, can I take a picture of you?"
"Me?" Caitlyn tilted her head, frowned a little, hesitated, then slowly nodded. "Alright, but don't use it for anything weird."
"Don't worry, it's just for my personal-" Niamh started, but Dewayne quickly covered her mouth and said seriously, "It's just to capture a beautiful moment in life."
Ever the cautious one, Dewayne planned to send the photo to Leon right after taking it to get his approval. If he agreed, Niamh could keep it; if not, he'd just hack into her phone and delete it.
Caitlyn looked a little puzzled, but still nodded.
They were her students and seemed like little fans. She'd taken group photos with them before, so one more wouldn't hurt. Besides, with so many people watching, maybe she could use this chance to soften her scary reputation at school by being a bit more friendly and approachable.
After all, Caitlyn could be kind and understanding, too.
