                    Not feeling happy?
Of course she wasn't happy. After finally enjoying some peace and quiet, and even taking in a clingy but surprisingly caring ex-Knight, her life was finally getting warmer and better.
And then, those annoying people just had to show up and try to ruin everything.
Caitlyn lowered her eyes and nestled gently into Leon's arms, quietly breathing in his scent.
He smelled faintly of cooking oil. He must've been practicing his cooking again.
Leon's expression softened as she hugged him, his face finally relaxed.
He asked softly, "What happened? Tell me about it. We'll figure it out together, okay?"
Caitlyn pursed her lips and stayed quiet for a long time. Then she slowly lifted her face, her bright, watery red eyes blinking up at him.
She couldn't help but think, 'He's so gentle. Even though he's just a brute who only knows how to fight, he's always so gentle with me.'
Suddenly, a small smile curved her lips.
She said, "Nothing much. Just a few idiots acting up in class, so I got a little annoyed. That's all."
"Caitlyn, do I look like an idiot to you?" Leon tried to look stern, his face darkening.
But she wasn't fazed at all. She let go of his arms, spun around, and her long skirt swirled and fluttered like the most delicate flower blooming in the dead of winter.
She pouted, "I'm hungry..."
Leon just stared at her, not saying a word.
Caitlyn glanced back at him and reached out her soft, delicate hand.
They looked at each other for a moment, and finally, Leon just sighed in defeat.
Leon reached out and took Caitlyn's hand, leading her forward.
He looked at her. "You'd better start thinking about how you're going to answer my questions later."
"Lord Radford, I just had a rough day. That's all. Tomorrow's my birthday. Can't you let me be happy until then?"
Caitlyn, ever the clever one, knew exactly how to hit Leon's weak spot.
He held it in for a while, then finally grumbled, "As soon as it's past midnight tomorrow, even if you're fast asleep, I'm dragging you out of bed for a proper interrogation!"
Caitlyn smiled at him softly. "Alright. But for now, can we go eat?"
Leon looked a bit upset. "Hmph... So secretive. I'm just worried about you, you know."
"But I want my best friend, Leon, to be happy, too. That's why I want to put the bad stuff aside for now."
Caitlyn glanced at him, her eyes shimmering with warmth, her whole demeanor softer than he'd ever seen.
Leon looked at her, feeling sweet in his heart, but he still couldn't help worrying a little.
Leon tried to speak, "Caitlyn..."
Caitlyn seemed a bit impatient. "I know, I know! I might need my good friend to keep me warm later, so for now, just be quiet and be a good boy, okay?"
Leon snnered inwardly, 'Ridiculous! I, Leon Radford, a world-class powerhouse, get talked into things by such childish coaxing?
'Am I the type to give in just for a hug?
'Yeah, when it comes to Caitlyn, I totally am.'
Lunch today wasn't one of those meals Leon had secretly arranged with the kitchen.
He'd been too busy experimenting with cakes and just didn't have the time.
So, he thought having a slice of cream cake for dessert after lunch seemed perfectly reasonable.
"Here, the cafeteria's having an event today. Everyone gets a little cake," Leon said as he handed the cake to Caitlyn.
Caitlyn reached out to take it, then after a moment of silence, looked up at him.
Leon widened his eyes, scarfed down his own cake in a few quick bites, licked his fingers, and said, "If you don't want yours, give it to me."
"Don't lick your fingers. That's not hygienic," Caitlyn replied coolly, then opened her soft pink lips and took a bite.
Sweet and fluffy, it actually tasted pretty good.
Leon found himself staring at her rosy lips, unconsciously licking his own, his gaze drifting.
He wondered when he'd ever get a taste of those lips.
Maybe his gaze was a little too intense, because Caitlyn, unable to take it anymore, broke off half her cake and handed it to him.
"If you want some, just say so. Staring at me like that, you look like a total creep," she teased.
Leon stared at the piece of cake with her bite mark on it, paused for a second, then took it and looked at Caitlyn.
She naturally avoided his eyes, glancing off to the side as if nothing had happened.
But the soft blush blooming on her cheeks, like the first blossoms of spring, gave her away.
Leon popped the cake into his mouth, rolling it around and savoring the taste.
Honestly, he thought nothing in the world tasted better than food that'd passed through the lips of someone he loved.
Maybe there was too much sugar in the cake. It was almost overwhelmingly sweet.
With no classes this afternoon, they could just slip away after lunch.
Leon had wanted to wander around campus with Caitlyn, but she seemed a bit homesick today. As soon as they left the cafeteria, she grabbed his hand and made a beeline for the bike shed.
She slipped on his helmet, still carrying his scent, hopped onto the scooter, slid in the key, and shot him a cool glance over her shoulder.
Leon grinned, happily climbed onto the back seat, and wrapped her up in a big bear hug.
Well, if it weren't freezing out, he'd honestly want her to keep driving like this forever.
With his arms around Caitlyn's waist, Leon pressed his cheek into her soft blond hair, breathing in that faint, sweet scent, looking blissed out.
'Is there anything in the world better than Caitlyn? Probably not, right?'
Caitlyn could feel the warmth from the guy clinging to her back, even through all those layers. She let out a gentle breath, waited for the fog to clear, then started up the scooter.
It felt so warm.
"I remember your birthday's on the fourth of next month, right?" In the living room, Caitlyn suddenly turned to Leon beside her and asked.
Leon nodded, put down his phone, and flashed her a grin.
"Are you planning to celebrate my birthday, Caitlyn? Or, hey, why don't we just move it up to tomorrow and celebrate together? Our birthdays are only a few days apart anyway. Besides, I never really did anything for mine before."
"If you want to celebrate together next year, I'm fine with that. But this year, let's keep it separate. That way I can get something ready for you, my dear friend. Anyway, I'm older than you."
Caitlyn deliberately stressed the words "dear friend" and "older than you", giving Leon a teasing, half-smile.
Leon's mouth twitched, looking a bit put out. "Why that smile? You're only half a month older than me, but I'm more mentally mature than you are!"
"Oh, really?" Caitlyn let out a soft laugh, shook her head, glanced at him, and shook her head again.
She just smiled, not saying another word.
But that look of hers was driving Leon crazy!
What was that supposed to mean?
What was this woman even thinking?
Was what he said really that funny? He was more mature than Caitlyn, okay?
Leon sulked, staring at her for a long moment, until Caitlyn finally sighed, reached out, and ruffled his hair, finally letting him off the hook.
"Alright, alright. Leon's the most mature. That's why you'd never get mad at a childish brat like me, right? After all, mature men are the most understanding."
"I wasn't even mad," he muttered, arms crossed, but he still scooted a little closer to her.
Caitlyn was both exasperated and amused, but looking at the childish man in front of her, her heart softened.
He was the peerless martial god who had saved countless lives and was unstoppable on the battlefield, yet in front of her, he was always this adorably silly.
She remembered Germaine once saying that a man only showed his childish side in front of someone he truly loved, like his mother, or his wife.
Leon's gaze drifted over, and Caitlyn's eyes flickered. She quickly hid the warmth and those odd, unspoken feelings swirling inside her.
She began, "Ahem... Germaine and Kathleen might also be coming over tomorrow."
"Okay." Leon replied, but suddenly thought this conversation felt a little strange.
After thinking it over for a second, he couldn't help but grin.
Heh, this really did sound like something a married couple would say.
