A gentle hush cloaked the land.
The faint bells of Christmas could be heard in the distance.
It was cold outside; people huddled in their coats, mufflers and scarves wrapped round their necks in a weak attempt to hide from the cold. They pulled their loved ones closer, searching for a certain warmth that a human heart seemed to provide.
But as the first flakes of snow started to fall, gently so, our character opened his eyes to greet this beautiful morning.
Chip shifted under the covers, cold. He realized that an arm was wrapped tightly around his waist, preventing him from getting up.
Our character smiled to no one in particular. Just—himself.
He then tried to pry his fiancé's arm off his frame, albeit to no avail.
There was a low chuckle, however, coming from the latter.
"Morning Angel."
"Ah," Chip pulled back, apologetic. "I-I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to wake you."
"Mm...sleep," Xander laughed low, pulling his angel closer.
"But I have to make breakfast," The other pointed out, blushing slightly from the close proximity that he had yet gotten used to.
For it had been a long time, indeed, since the pair had woke to the smiles of the other.
The years that they had spent apart—quite alone—had somehow, one way or another, past dead-end after dead-end...
Somehow,
Arrived at this point of time in their lives.
Xander wondered how he had gotten so far.
He was certain, had it been two years ago, that perhaps he would not have the strength to carry on with the path of life.
After all, there was close to nothing that held him back from straying off the path and going to the edge.
But of course, he had remembered that he was holding the hand of another on the path—and it was the hand of his sister.
So as many foolish humans would do, Xander held on to hopeless hope.
He had, of course, abandoned all thought of his angel's Love. He felt as if he didn't deserve it, after all.
.
And then here he was.
The world in his arms, and suddenly,
Living wasn't so much a chore as it was before.
"Xan?" His empty gaze focused, resting on clear blue skies that held the window to his sun. "I-Is something wrong? Um, do...do you not want blueberry pancakes for breakfast?" His sun asked anxiously.
Xander laughed.
He didn't really answer.
He didn't even know how to.
He could have just said what was on his mind at that point of time; that he could never 'not want' anything for breakfast—simply because he'd never really have breakfast before.
He had always rushed off to work, sending Giselle to school but not remembering to eat—and not having anyone to remind him.
Because no one cared.
But, Xander thought, he could get used to this—the feeling of not being alone.
Still, the taller frame did not reply. He simply smiled (simply? He had never been able to do that before) and whispered.
"I'm glad I'm alive."

It was cold outside; and snow was beginning to collect on the roof of their humble home.
Berry barked, wagging her tail.
She liked the cold.
There was, however, a sweet warm scent that wafted throughout the house as pancake after pancake was stacked on a plate.
Our character turned around, noticing the presence of another.
"O-Oh! Hello," He blushed, feeling slightly embarrassed in his apron, "I didn't see you there, uwa I was rude, I'm so sorry."
"Xander went back to sleep," He laughed, then stopped himself, "s-so we have to keep our voices down."
Our character placed two pancakes on an empty plate, drizzling some maple syrup over the top. He added scrambled eggs and bacon to the side.
"Here you go," He said, placing the plate on the island. "This is for you!"
"For coming with me on this journey, staying by my side, and...for, just, being human I guess," He smiled sheepishly. "Thank you."
"Thank you for showing me your heart. It's beautiful."
"Thank you for commenting what you feel about me, and even giving me your amazing smiles, heartfelt laughter, and precious tears."
Chip paused.
He didn't know what to say.
He didn't know if there was anything else he could muster.
It was just...Thank you?
"B-But of course, you have to eat up too, okay? Breakfast is important!" He nodded to himself, pointing to the breakfast plate. "You have to take care of yourself!"
"Xan—I mean, Xander's all grown-up, but he doesn't even eat his breakfast, uwa..." Our character crossed his arms across his chest, shaking his head in an adorable manner. "This dummy doesn't even know how to take care of himself and eat his vegetables. Ugh."
"Ah! What am I saying?" He stopped himself all of a sudden, nervous. "My stupid mind keeps going back to Xander—what's wrong with it?"
"I need to get back on track, uh...uh...what was I about to say?" He glanced around awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.
The small frame tottered over to the refrigerator, taking out more goodies. "Ah, for some reason, I-I can't remember!"
"I'm so stupid," He muttered under his breath. "But anyway, you should have more goodies. There's strawberry-flavored ice-cream! O-Oh, and I've got some cupcakes if you'd like. Oh dear. They're all strawberry. Ah! There's a red velvet one, would you like that?"
Chip placed them on the island; one by one. He smiled.
He kinda wished someone would say something to break the silence.
He glanced down at the goodies.
He kinda wished cupcakes could talk.
