Elara was about to retort when the landline in the small office rang. She shot Adrian a glare and warned, "If you pull any of your tricks again during the next massage therapy session, just see what happens..."
Elara didn't finish her sentence, but her expression said it all.
Adrian slouched lazily in his chair, with a playful smirk tugging at his lips. He watched with obvious amusement as Elara left to answer the phone.
"Hello, this is Mr. Adrian Hartley's office," Elara answered.
"Hello, Elara," came the receptionist's voice. "Mr. Yann Kalmien from Kalmien Group in Marisiton is here."
"Okay. Please show him in," Elara replied.
After hanging up, Elara returned to the office and reported, "Mr. Yann Kalmien is here."
Adrian nodded. He stood up, settled onto the leather sofa, and crossed his long legs. But he couldn't take his eyes off Elara.
Elara ignored his stare and headed to the coffee machine to make some coffee.
A knock sounded at the door. Adrian said, "Come in."
The receptionist led in three people. She said, "Mr. Hartley, Mr. Yann Kalmien is here."
Adrian turned his gaze toward the door and glanced at Howard behind Yann. With his expression turning colder, he said, "Have a seat."
Yann walked straight into the office and sat down across from Adrian. Sarah took a seat beside Yann, while Howard sat off to the side.
Yann spotted Adrian's cigarettes on the coffee table. He said, "I haven't had one of these in ages."
With that, he casually grabbed a cigarette, lit it up, and took a slow drag.
Howard was at Adrian's office for the first time. He glanced around with wide eyes. "Adrian, your receptionist is gorgeous. Is she single?"
Adrian let out a mocking laugh. "Do you think I have nothing better to do than gossip about the receptionist's love life?"
Yann's face darkened. He said to Howard, "Is that what you came here to focus on?"
Sarah shot Howard a look and said, "Howard, be quiet."
Howard leaned back on the sofa, looking disgruntled, but kept his mouth shut.
Elara finished making the coffee and brought two cups over to the coffee table. "Mr. Kalmien, Mrs. Kalmien, here's your coffee," she said.
Yann and Sarah looked up. Both were a bit taken aback to see Elara.
Yann shot Adrian an amused look and asked, "So, you've taken her to your office now?"
Adrian smirked and said, "Keeping her close puts my mind at ease."
Elara hadn't expected there to be three guests, so she went back to brew another cup of coffee.
She then brought the cup over to Howard, bent down, and set it in front of him. "Coffee for you, sir," she said.
Howard had noticed Elara as soon as he walked in, but only caught a glimpse of her from behind. Now, with her handing him coffee, his eyes were glued to her.
His gaze swept up from Elara's high heels, lingered on her sheer stockings, up over her shapely hips and slim waist, and finally landed on her face. After that, he couldn't tear his eyes away.
Elara went to grab Adrian's coffee. When she came back, she walked over and handed it to him.
Adrian took the cup. He took a sip and glanced at Howard, who was still blatantly checking Elara out.
Adrian asked Yann, "Didn't you just come to Veritasiton a couple of days ago? What brings you back so soon?"
Yann flicked the ash from his cigarette and said, "I just wanted to check in on you."
"Didn't you get enough of me last time?" Adrian teased.
Yann laughed and said, "I didn't get enough to drink. How about we grab some tonight?"
Adrian shook his head. "I've got a plan tonight. But if you want to go out and have a drink, just put it on my tab."
Yann knew it was not easy to make an appointment with Adrian. He said, "Alright. You are showily rich."
"What exactly brings you to Veritasiton this time?" Adrian asked.
Yann's face grew a bit more serious. "I'm here to help my dad with something."
"Nathan has been in Marisiton for years. What could be so important in Veritasiton that he needs you to handle it?" asked Adrian.
Yann replied, "It's said to be some romantic debt from his younger days. He wants me to help him find someone."
Adrian raised an eyebrow and said in a tone dripping with sarcasm, "With his reputation, I'm afraid it's not enough to search in Veritasiton alone."
"I can't speak for the rest," Yann replied. "Anyway, this time he sent me to Veritasiton only."
Adrian warned him kindly, "You're pretty careless. Aren't you worried you might dig up a few secret kids of his?"
Yann certainly wasn't that careless. His smile faded a bit. "That's exactly why I'm here. It gives me time to deal with things ahead of time."
Adrian wasn't interested in it. He just said to be polite, "If you need anything, just let me know."
Yann replied, "I will."
Adrian set down his half-empty coffee cup and turned to Howard. "Have you done staring?"
At that, Yann and Sarah both turned to Howard, only to see his eyes still glued to Elara standing next to Adrian. They were honestly at a loss for words.
Yann's brow furrowed, and he snapped at Sarah, "If you can't control your brother, then both of you can get out."
Sarah's face went pale. She stood up and pulled Howard up, ready to drag him out.
But Howard wouldn't quit. "Come on. I was just looking at her legs. Aren't pretty secretaries for one to look at?"
Sarah smacked Howard right across the face.
When Sarah had said something out of line to Elara before, Adrian had confronted her on the spot, and Yann hadn't bothered to speak to her since.
Now, with Howard openly flirting with Elara right in front of Adrian, Sarah grew increasingly anxious about how Adrian might respond.
"Didn't you hear Yann's words?" Sarah snapped at Howard.
Howard just stood there and said, "Sarah, you—"
Yann stood up, and Sarah hurriedly pushed Howard toward the door in terror. She said, "Honey, Adrian, you two go ahead. I'll take Howard out."
Sarah shoved Howard out of the office. As the door swung shut, Yann finally sat back down, still looking pissed.
"Did you fight again?" Adrian asked. He lit up a cigarette and leaned back on the sofa.
Yann said, "Don't even mention her. She's driving me crazy."
Elara noticed the coffee cups were almost empty, so she started clearing them away and planned to make a fresh batch.
Yann waited until Elara had gone over to the coffee machine before finally speaking up. "By the way, Quinn Group bought Noah's FIGHT Racing Club that you asked me to invest in. Do you know about that?"
Adrian's hand paused mid-drag on his cigarette. He said, "Yeah. Victor mentioned it once."
"I heard Quinn Group wants to merge FIGHT into their own club. If that happens, we probably won't save FIGHT," Yann said.
"If FIGHT can't be saved, then so be it. I've helped out for years. Maybe it's time to let it be," Adrian said.
Yann glanced at Elara as she brought over the coffee and lowered his voice. "Doesn't it bother you at all? Josie came to me a few days ago. She begged me to invest and squeeze Quinn Group out."
"Did you help her?" Adrian asked.
"No. Her club has been losing money for years. She's lucky that Quinn Group wants to take it off her hands. What more could she ask for?" Yann replied.
Adrian nodded. "Where's the contract?"
"What contract?" Yann asked.
"Weren't you here to renew it today?" Adrian asked back.
Yann let out a laugh. "If I want to, we can sign it online. Why should I bring a paper contract here?"
Adrian shot him a sideways glance. "So, what would you come all the way here for?"
"Can't I just drop by to see you?" Yann quipped.
"I've got a lot on my plate, you know," Adrian replied.
