Elara stared at Adrian's face for a moment, dazed. Then she finally realized that this wasn't a dream. She'd taken the private jet Adrian had arranged and landed in Namukitts.
Before she fell asleep, she was still in Veritasiton. When she woke up, she was already in Namukitts. Elara couldn't help but think, 'How does he always manage to pull this off?'
She tried to calm her racing heart and forced herself to look indifferent. She said, "Mr. Hartley, shouldn't you be with Jade right now? Why did you bring me to Namukitts? Aren't I interrupting your alone time with her?
"If Jade finds out I'm here, she's not going to like it."
Adrian couldn't help but laugh at how she kept bringing up Jade. So he played along, bringing up Alex just as much.
He said, "What? Did bringing you here mess up your plans with Alex? Is Alex going to be upset that you're here with me? Am I interrupting you and Alex decorating your marital home?"
Elara remembered the bait she'd dropped on Instagram yesterday, and now the big fish had finally taken the hook. She fought to keep her smile from showing and then said in a cold and distant voice, "Yes, you are."
Adrian said, "Really? Are you thinking about becoming Nancy's kid's stepmom?"
Elara said, "Being a mom without any pain—sounds pretty great, right?"
Elara said, "So you really like being a stepmom that much? Maybe I should go adopt a few kids just for you."
Elara was speechless. Realizing they were the only ones left in the cabin, Elara glanced up. "Where's Lucas?"
"He's waiting for us in the car outside," Adrian replied.
Elara spotted the black car parked below through the window and propped herself up slightly. "Let's go, then. It's not right to keep him waiting."
Adrian was lying on his side on the sofa bed. He pulled her into his arms and said, "What's the rush? You haven't answered my questions."
"What's there to talk about? I haven't even asked what you and Jade have done," Elara replied coolly.
Elara turned on the charm, and even Adrian, who always prided himself on being cool and collected, found himself at a loss for words.
Adrian said, "Go ahead. Ladies first."
Elara curled her lips into a sly smirk and narrowed her eyes. She was clearly plotting to ask something tricky.
"Well, about our shapes," she teased.
Adrian burst out laughing. His gaze slid down her body on purpose as he shot back with a wicked line, "Honestly, I think yours is better. But I haven't really touched it, so I'm not sure."
Elara's eyes dodged in shock. She thought, 'God, he's dirty.'
She pouted and shot back, "Oh? So you've already touched Jade's, then?"
"No," Adrian replied without a moment's hesitation, but Elara wasn't convinced at all.
"Do you really think I'd ever let a woman I want just stay in Namukitts?" Adrian said, his tone possessive. He'd keep her by his side.
Elara said, "Well, you're always on business trips. Who knows? Maybe you've got a girl in every city, just rotating them whenever you get bored."
Adrian gave her waist a teasing squeeze, feigning annoyance. "So that's what you think of me? That I'm such a playboy?"
Elara wriggled in his arms, giggling from the tickling touch.
Her thin cardigan slipped off her shoulders, and the delicate straps of her dress, tugged loose by her movements, barely hung onto her shoulders, threatening to fall at any moment.
Elara didn't even notice the tempting view at her neckline, but from above, Adrian could see everything perfectly. She was only wearing nipple covers. Except for those, there was nothing left.
Adrian's Adam's apple bobbed, and his breath came out ragged and uneven. He hadn't meant to peek. She'd just been squirming from being ticklish, and as he pulled her closer, he just happened to catch a glimpse.
It was the second time he'd seen that, but now that she was right in his arms, it was even harder for him to resist.
Adrian tried to hold back his desire, but he just couldn't take it anymore. He suddenly leaned in and gave Elara a hard bite right on her collarbone.
"Hey, that hurts!" Elara complained.
Adrian said in a low and husky voice with a tease, "Maybe I haven't gotten my hands on them yet, but I've definitely gotten an eyeful. Elara, those curves of yours are absolutely breathtaking."
At first, Elara didn't catch his drift, but when she noticed where his eyes were pointed, she glanced down. Then she instantly threw her hand up to cover her neckline.
"What a pervert," she huffed.
Adrian found these words sounding quite familiar. "Didn't you already know what I was like the very first day we met?"
"You!" Elara huffed, at a loss for words.
He slid her cardigan back up onto her shoulders, and then his palm lingered on her slender arm through the fabric. His gaze swept slowly from head to toe, drinking in every inch of what she was wearing.
The sultry purple dress clung to her curves, showing off her alluring, feminine charm. The high slit ran up her thigh, exposing her long, fair leg on full display.
And those spaghetti straps and that plunging neckline. The more he looked, the more revealing they seemed.
Adrian got upset and shot out three questions in a row, "Is this what you wore to see Alex today? Did you get all dressed up just for him? Have you ever dressed up like this just to see me?"
Elara rolled her eyes at him. "Could I even wear something like this to work? If I did, everyone would say I was just flirting with you."
"Oh, so you admit this outfit is pretty flirty, huh? Were you trying to get Alex's attention?" Adrian shot back.
Elara bristled. She thought, 'He can have girls in every city, but I can't even wear a pretty dress?'
"I'll wear whatever I want. Who are you to tell me what to do?" she snapped.
Elara was fuming, just because he tried to tell her what she could or couldn't wear. Adrian let it go. He thought, 'Whatever, she can wear whatever she wants—as long as she stops being mad at me.'
He reached up and gave her hair a gentle tousle. "Anything else you want to ask about Jade?"
"Humph. You call her name like you two are super close," Elara grumbled.
Hearing that, Adrian realized she'd gotten him wrong. The smile on his lips grew even wider as he looked down at the jealous, sulking woman in his arms. He couldn't help but feel his heart melt.
He said, "That's just what everyone in our class calls her. What, you want me to give her a special nickname?"
Elara shot back, "The way you call her sounds so close."
Adrian gave her a playful smile. "Alright, then. From now on, I'll call her Ms. Shaw. Is that good enough for you, Elara?"
His deep and charming voice sent tingling all the way from her toes to the top of her head. Her voice unconsciously softened. "Don't call me like that."
"Aren't you jealous that I call other women like that? Then, from now on, only you get that privilege. How do you like that arrangement, Elara?" Adrian teased.
"No, that's way too intimate," she retorted.
Adrian smirked lazily. "We've been all tangled up for ages. Why bother pretending otherwise?"
"You're the one who's always being tangled up with your female classmates, okay?" she shot back.
Adrian arched a brow. "How am I 'tangled up' with my female classmates, exactly? If you can't give me a solid reason, don't even think about leaving."
Elara huffed, not backing down. "Fine, I'll say it. The night before last, when she toasted you, weren't you two all smiles and giggles?"
"That?" Adrian snorted. "I didn't even drink her toast. Actually, I didn't drink a single drop that night. As soon as dinner was over, we both just went back to our own rooms."
Elara shot him a look, and her eyes were full of doubt.
Adrian explained, "Yesterday morning was the first hearing. You know I don't drink the night before a hearing, and I don't meet with anyone after nine."
"Who knows if there was really a hearing?" she retorted.
Adrian said, "Elara, you should know how to look up my court records."
Elara's tone softened. "So you really just went back to the hotel and slept? Didn't even stay up reminiscing or anything?"
Adrian smirked. "Reminisce about what? There's nothing between us to catch up on."
"Alright," Elara said.
Adrian said, "Done grilling me? If you are, it's my turn to ask questions. So, what were you and Alex chatting about?"
Elara traced lazy circles on his chest with her finger and said playfully, "Well, just reminiscing about old times."
Her words were sharp as ever, but her hands were getting bolder, lighting fires wherever they touched.
Adrian got upset. He caught her wandering hand and guided it lower, until her fingertips brushed against the cool metal of his belt buckle.
He said, "Reminiscing, huh? Alright, let's see how good we are at bringing up old memories."
