At Veritasiton Hills, there was only one apartment per floor. Adrian lives on the ninth floor, and Elara's house is right below Adrian's.
"I... I just moved into Flowery Apartments last month," Elara said.
"Well, why not move in with me now? That way, you won't have to move next month," Adrian suggested.
Adrian thought, 'Once I cancel the engagement in October, we could get together. I could trick her into moving into my apartment; otherwise, we would have to move everything from the eighth floor to the ninth again. What a hassle.'
Elara immediately saw through his plan. She rolled her eyes and said, "Who said I want to shack up with you? Keep dreaming."
Adrian grinned, "Isn't it normal for a couple to live together?"
"Not for me. I don't want to lose my freedom," Elara shot back.
As they walked side by side down the steps outside the Housing Authority, Adrian didn't give her a chance to argue. "Want freedom? Then, Ms. Langton, cherish your freedom in the last month."
Elara smiled and said, "Adrian, you can have whatever you want in your dreams."
They got into the car and buckled up.
"Why'd you suddenly take me to the Housing Authority?" Elara asked.
She noticed he had the deed and all the paperwork ready in advance.
"I saw you were not okay with Josie this morning. Figured I'd give you something to reassure you before I cancel the engagement. That way, you may feel secure," Adrian said.
He sent Justin back to Veritasiton Hills to grab the deed that morning, and he made an appointment with the Housing Authority this morning.
Elara fell silent.
Adrian drove toward the DMV not far away, shooting a glance at Elara, who stayed silent.
"What's wrong? Are you crying?" he teased.
Elara said, "No. I was thinking if I sold this house, I'd never have to work in my life."
Adrian was speechless.
Once they arrived at the DMV, Adrian transferred ownership of the Bugatti, worth 20 billion dollars, to Elara.
Back in the car, Elara held the green deed in her left hand and the red one in her right.
She kept glancing back and forth between them.
Adrian lit a cigarette and leaned back lazily in his seat, turning to look at her. "Happy now?"
"Happy," Elara replied.
She thought to herself, 'Wow, it's so great to get a car and a house for free.
'Honestly, even if Adrian didn't cancel the engagement, I've got nothing to lose.
'If Adrian ever dumped me, I could sell the car and the house and then settle down in Kardic.'
The car headed toward Flowery Apartments.
"When are you moving in?" Adrian asked.
Elara put the two deeds into her bag and said, "Another time."
"Another time?" Adrian asked.
"Yeah," said Elara.
Exasperated, Adrian laughed. "Fine, let me help you," said Adrian.
Elara said in confusion, "What?"
When the car stopped in front of Flowery Apartments, Adrian smiled wickedly and said, "Elara, could you do me a favor and call a moving company? I need to help my future girlfriend move."
Elara was speechless.
"Elara, did you get it?" Adrian teased.
Elara remained silent.
"Alright, I'll just have Justin do it," Adrian said.
"I'll do it," Elara said quickly.
Adrian loosened his tie, a sly grin tugging at his lips. "Alright then, let's go. I'll help you."
Elara didn't know what to say.
Once inside, Adrian shrugged off his suit jacket and rolled up his white shirt sleeves.
"You handle the living room, and I'll take care of the bedroom, okay?" Elara suggested.
But instead of packing things, he just wandered around and gawked at everything.
Elara left him alone and went straight to her room to pack her clothes.
She opened her suitcase and then started taking out her underwear and bras from the closet.
Just then, Adrian walked in.
With a bottle of wine in his hand, he glanced at the bra in Elara's hand and said, "Want to keep this wine? It's a good bottle, but I've got better at my place."
Elara tossed her underwear into the suitcase and said, "Yeah, I want it. That wine was a gift from a friend in Edansia. It meant a lot to me."
"Okay." With that, he left the room.
Elara straightened up her pajamas and took them out.
Adrian walked back in. He brought nothing this time.
He glanced at her pajamas that looked sexy and arched an eyebrow.
He approached Elara, picked up the pajamas, and said nastily, "Wow, you and Alex are awfully chummy, huh?"
Most of Elara's pajamas were sexy. When she studied abroad, everyone around her was incredibly open.
But technically, this one Adrian picked up was lingerie.
It was a gift a friend gave her at a pajama party.
But she wasn't that open, so she never wore it.
Adrian looked at her, his eyes heavy with lust.
"I've never worn it," Elara said.
"Oh? Never worn it?" Adrian teased.
"Did you see the tag on it?" Elara shot back.
"Hmph, so you just haven't found the right moment to wear it yet?" Adrian said with a sly glance at Elara.
"No," Elara said immediately.
She knew there was no way she could explain herself. After all, she had just pulled it out along with her other pajamas.
Honestly, the only reason she kept it was because the brand was expensive. She felt bad tossing it out. She thought, ' Maybe I can put it on when I have a boyfriend.'
"Come on, put it on," Adrian grinned.
Elara snatched the lingerie back from him and said, "No way."
She stuffed all her pajamas into the suitcase. When she turned around, she found Adrian still standing there.
"Can't you toss it out? Alex has seen you in it. I don't like that," Adrian grumbled.
Annoyed, Elara mumbled, "You're not seeing anything. Why do you not like it?"
"Hey, aren't you supposed to be packing out there? What are you doing here?" Elara demanded.
"I'm all done there," Adrian said.
Elara looked vague.
Elara thought, 'I haven't finished the bedroom, how could he have done it in the living room?'
Elara walked out and found the living room looked the same as it did before. She frowned and said, "This is your idea of 'done'?"
"Yeah, there's a ton of stuff," he said.
"Where's the stuff you packed?" she asked.
Adrian jerked his chin toward the table and said, "Over there."
Elara followed his gaze.
On the table, there were only two things: the bottle of wine he'd brought up earlier, and three photo frames.
The photos were taken when they were diving in Namukitts. There were more than 10 photos there, but he only picked out one of himself and Elara, one in which he was making a heart with his hands, and a group photo. He didn't take any of Justin's photos.
"Are you serious, Adrian? You're taking these two things?" Elara said, remaining incredulous.
Elara thought, 'There are so many things in my apartment, and he isn't taking any of them?'
"I have everything in my apartment. If you need anything, you can buy a new one," Adrian said.
Adrian thought, 'Alex must touch most of the things in the house, and I don't like it.
'Honestly, no guy would be cool with his girl keeping stuff that reminds her of her ex.
'Especially those personal things like lingerie. I have to find a chance to toss them out once she moves in.
'But no need to rush.
'Let her move in first.'
Elara didn't know what to say.
In the end, Elara pushed Adrian down onto the couch and prevented him from touching anything.
But Adrian wanted to help her, and he said, "How can I just sit here and watch you do everything?"
'This is ridiculous,' Adrian thought.
Elara felt irrationally irritable.
She glanced around and said, "Alright, go open up those packages by the door for me."
The packages had been dropped off yesterday. After seeing the photo of Adrian and Josie last night, she hadn't been in the mood to deal with them, so now they were all stacked up by the entryway.
Adrian took the scissors Elara handed him, turned his back to her, and crouched down to open the packages one by one.
Elara thought, 'Well, at least Adrian can open packages.'
Elara went back to her room and continued packing her clothes.
Adrian, who had never opened a package in his life, patiently worked his way through the pile of packages. He was tired of squatting down, so he moved a few boxes to the table and sat on the bench to continue working.
Pretty big, the third box was packed well. The recipient's name was blacked out, and it was swaddled in tape, so it didn't get scratched.
It took Adrian a long while to get it open, and when he finally did, he found a pink box inside. It was heavy.
He untied the pink silk ribbon and lifted the lid. His face instantly darkened when he saw a silicone item within it.
Just then, Elara came rushing out of the room, her voice panicked. "Wait! Adrian, don't open that package."

"I... I just moved into Flowery Apartments last month," Elara said.
