Adrian turned around and leaned against the table, his gaze so heated that Elara couldn't look him in the eyes.
The pink box in his hand stood out vividly against his pale skin.
He stared at the box for a moment and examined it closely. Suddenly, he laughed, and his face was unreadable.
Adrian wore a fitted white shirt that perfectly outlined his physique, his black pants showing off his long legs. Such a handsome man was standing right in front of Elara.
He was handsome.
His features were sharp and refined, carrying a noble elegance mixed with an irresistible allure. Right now, his brow was knitted. He tried to control his irritation.
If Elara saw this another time, she would think he was pretty attractive.
Elara thought, 'But why now?
'Now I have no interest in expecting anything fancy.'
Adrian pulled out the little card from the box, glanced at the message on it, and gave a cold smile.
"Dear esteemed VIP member, thank you for your support over the years..." read Adrian.
Elara lowered her head, feeling way too embarrassed to look at him.
Elara thought, 'It was so embarrassing.'
Looking calm, Adrian walked toward Elara, step by step. The closer he approached, the more nervous Elara felt.
When there was only one step between them, Adrian drawled, "Elara?" Elara sensed great danger.
Adrian was standing right in front of her, but he kept closing in, making Elara back away.
Every time Adrian stepped forward, Elara had to take one step back.
Finally, Elara was cornered by Adrian with her back pressed against the wall.
Before Elara knew it, Adrian lifted her face.
Elara had to lock eyes with him.
Elara swallowed.
Adrian said in a seductive voice, "So, did I not please you?
"Or do I have to please you every day before you quit this?"
Elara kept her mouth shut and tried her best to avoid his gaze.
Adrian got annoyed.
His finger pressed down lightly.
A subtle sound came as he slowly leaned in, his breath drawing closer to her earlobe.
Her ear turned pink instantly.
But Adrian wasn't satisfied yet.
He pushed the button again and again.
"Baby, tell me, which do you like more, this or-?" said Adrian.
Adrian kissed the tip of her nose.
"This?"
"What?" Elara looked at him, bewildered.
Adrian knew her period wasn't over yet, so for now, he had to stop.
Adrian thought, 'I just want her to say something I'd like.
'I want her to say how great I am, and no one is better than me.
'No way I'm going to lose to this thing.'
Elara felt weak in her body.
Adrian steadied her with one hand, and he wouldn't let her go.
Adrian leaned in closer, his voice low and coaxing, "Elara, who do you like more, hmm?"
His voice was magnetic, impossible to resist.
Elara's defenses were starting to crumble.
Elara thought, 'He gave me a car and a house, and promised to call off his engagement for me. If I keep playing hard to get, I'll be over the line.'
She hesitated for a moment, then rose up on her tiptoes and gave him a quick, gentle peck on the lips.
It was the first time Elara took the initiative to kiss Adrian.
Adrian, who had decided to seriously punish her, suddenly calmed down. He lowered his eyes to look at her.
He found Elara was looking right back at him.
Elara lifted her hand and signaled for him to come closer.
Adrian bent down and leaned closer to her.
Elara brushed her soft lips against his earlobe. She did it on purpose.
Elara whispered in his ears, "I like-"
As she spoke, Adrian couldn't hold back anymore. He pinned her firmly against the wall, and Elara burst out laughing.
Adrian was mad at himself. He thought, 'Damn it. I lost control because of her words.'
His hot breath brushed against Elara's face as he bit her softly. "Elara, you're playing with fire.
"Just wait until I call off the engagement. We'll see what you're gonna do."
Adrian made Elara uncomfortable, and Elara said with a bitter smile, "Adrian, you're worse at this, but you insist on doing it."
"I'm worse, huh? How would you know if you hadn't tried me yet?" Adrian shot back.
At that moment, Elara suddenly remembered what Justin had told her back in Namukitts. He said Adrian had once gone to see a doctor about this.
Elara thought, 'Honestly, no guy would admit he's worse at this.'
"What are you thinking about?" Adrian noticed that her mind had wandered off.
"Nothing, just wondering if you're telling the truth," said Elara.
"Lawyers never lie," said Adrian.
"Oh, really?" Elara gave him a suspicious look.
"So, how will you deal with this, Elara?" asked Adrian.
"Mr. Hartley, can you turn it off first?"
He had turned it on earlier, and now it was still buzzing away, making Elara feel embarrassed.
Adrian chuckled as he switched it off. "You bought it yourself. Don't act like you weren't ready for it."
Elara snatched it from his hand and said, "I'll return it tomorrow, okay?"
She bought it way back then. It was a new version, and it had been on pre-sale for over a month. She remembered it when she got a text a couple of days ago saying it had shipped.
"Oh, you're letting it go? I didn't think you could."
Adrian was messing with her on purpose.
Elara shot him a glare. "What else do you think I'd do?"
"Or maybe- want me to try it for you?" said Adrian.
Elara knew he was up to no good. "My period's not over yet, I really can't- ah!"
Before Elara knew it, her feet had left the floor. Adrian scooped her up and headed straight for the bedroom. "Relax, it's for external use only. That'll be fine," he teased.
Inside the room, Elara's moans kept coming. Finally, the room fell silent.
In the dim room, only their breathing could be heard.
Adrian bit down hard on Elara's neck, muttered something under his breath, and Elara couldn't help but laugh.
"Adrian, you're really great," Elara quipped with a grin.
Adrian grumbled, "You bad woman."
After a little break, Adrian scooped her up again and carried her to the bathroom for a shower. Inside the shower, Elara helped him out.
Elara thought, 'I just returned his favor.'
After the shower, Adrian was in a better mood.
He wore a housecoat that Elara bought last time and sat on the couch, watching Elara dry her hair.
It was already ten at night, and with only some stuff packed up, they couldn't move tonight.
Elara was feeling a bit hungry. They had many sugar bombs at noon, and she didn't feel like eating now. She planned to make a salad.
"Adrian, want some salad?" she asked.
"Yeah," he answered.
Elara started preparing dinner in the open kitchen.
Adrian stood there with a cigarette between his fingers, his gaze lingering on Elara, who moved through the kitchen. She wore a beige apron, long hair falling down her back. Adrian enjoyed this moment of tranquility.
The salad was ready in no time. The two of them sat at the table and ate salad with their forks. Elara cooked up a steak for Adrian, since he hadn't had much for lunch.
Suddenly, Adrian looked up and said, "I took Dylan's case."
Elara was halfway through her salad when Adrian suddenly spoke up.
Her hands paused. Elara didn't expect him to take that case.
"Before I call off the engagement, I'll have to talk to the Heaton family a few more times because of this case. So don't worry if you hear anything about me and Josie, or the Heatons, alright?"
Elara kept eating her salad in silence.
Not wanting her to worry, Adrian added, "I'll let you know if I have to see the Heaton family."
Feeling relieved, Elara nodded. "Okay."
"Is Dylan... all right?" Elara asked with concern.
Adrian told her last time that Dylan was lingering in the shadow of death.
Adrian paused for a few seconds and asked, "Are you sure you want to know?"
Elara's heart skipped a beat. She thought, 'It's worse than I thought.'
"He's always been good to the three of us. We've been really respectful of him, so I want to know," Elara said softly.
Adrian said heavily, "He's become a vegetable."
