I was stunned. He didn't change at all. There was no room for negotiation. He was informing me.
A moment later, Quinn drove me back to the Smith family.
I braced myself and brought him into the house. Shirley was playing with Benedict in the living room. When she saw Quinn, she was a little surprised.
But she quickly adjusted her expression and smiled. "Mr. Madden, how are you? Why didn't you give us a heads-up?"
"Mrs. Smith, nice to see you," Quinn said calmly. His face was expressionless, but he was polite. "You're an elder. Please call me by my name."
I explained to Shirley softly, "Mom, he came to see Benedict."
"Okay." Shirley nodded her head knowingly.
Then, Quinn asked stiffly, "His name is Benedict?"
This was the first time the father and son had met. It was also the first time he had heard of Benedict's nickname.
Since he entered the house, Quinn's eyes had been fixed on Benedict.
"Benedict Madden. What a nice name," Quinn could not help but mutter as he walked towards the baby's crawling cushion.
He squatted down and stared at Benedict for a long time. Then, he stretched out a finger and gently touched Benedict's face.
"Benedict," Quinn called softly. His tone was indescribably gentle.
Benedict widened his bright eyes and looked up at Quinn. He suddenly laughed.
Quinn's eyes lit up when he saw this. He smiled and pinched Benedict's face.
With that, Benedict laughed even more happily. He danced around as if he was playing a happy game.
Shirley stood beside me and sighed in a low voice. "After all, they are biological father and son. They can feel each other."
Quinn seemed to be proud. He pinched Benedict's chubby face and raised his eyebrows. "Benedict, you're my son. Listen carefully. I want you to be happy and safe."
Those were the first words he told his son. Even Shirley could not help but laugh.
Quinn played with Benedict for a full hour. Shirley wanted to invite him to stay for dinner, but he refused.
"Thanks for your kindness, but I still have work." Quinn stood up and looked at Benedict before leaving the Smith family.
At night, Ben and York came home from work.
After hearing Shirley mention Quinn had visited, the Smith family held a family meeting.
In the study, Ben suggested, "Natalia, why don't you return to Maple Media and help me? If the Madden family wants to cause trouble, I'll think of a way to settle it."
Shirley said tactfully, "Natalia, it's good to return to Maple Media and help your father, but if you have other plans, you must tell us frankly."
I pursed my lips, knowing they were concerned about me.
What happened today was too sudden. I wanted to organize my thoughts before telling them. But it seemed I had no choice but to be honest.
"Dad, Mom, I promised to remarry Quinn," I told them.
When they heard that, they looked at each other and widened their eyes in shock.
York was expressionless. He suddenly snorted, "I've never seen anyone jump into a fire twice."
"York, this is your sister's decision. We should respect her," Shirley said with a worried expression.
York frowned. "Natalia, this isn't your problem alone. Your marriage concerns the entire Smith Family. Dad and Mom dote on you, but that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.
"Do you think Quinn proposed to remarry you because he still has feelings for you? He can't bear to part with Benedict and the benefits of the marriage with the Smith Family!"
I was stunned and speechless. From a businessman's point of view, I couldn't refute what York said. However, I had my reasons and had to agree to remarry.
I pursed my lips. I couldn't explain it to them.
"Enough!" Ben stopped York. "Whatever the reason is, as long as Natalia wants to remarry Quinn, I have no objections."
York frowned and looked at me deeply. He stood up and left the study.
"Natalia, don't blame York. He's worried about you." After York left, Shirley comforted me softly.
I smiled and nodded. I didn't think York would be so kind as to care about me.
Why did York not agree to my remarriage with Quinn? I had no time to care about the reason.
"Since you've decided to remarry, we have to hold a wedding so that our relatives and friends can meet," Ben said.
Shirley chimed in, "That's right. Back then, when you got married, I didn't attend. I've always felt regretful. This time, I can't miss it."
They wanted to support me so that the Madden family wouldn't dare to look down on me in the future.
My heart warmed as I smiled and said, "Mom, Dad, thanks. I'll listen to your arrangements."
The next day, I went to the hospital quietly. After hearing Aiden had woken up, I was finally relieved.
Through the small window of the ward, I saw Rose feeding Aiden water. I didn't dare go in and disturb them.
My phone rang. It was Gemma. I quickly left the hospital.
I answered the phone. "Gemma, what's the matter?"
"Natalia, thank you for getting a place for me. I want to ask you out for dinner as a thank you." Gemma said.
"There's no need. Just live well from now on." I refused immediately. I was clear about her financial situation and didn't want to burden her.
Gemma guessed what I was thinking and said anxiously, "Natalia, I've bought the groceries. I'll cook and wait for you in the apartment. Can you please give me a chance to thank you?"
At this point, I had no reason to refuse. I drove to the apartment. Gemma made a table full of home-cooked dishes, which were fancy and delicious.
"You're a good cook!" I praised Gemma with a smile. "Where did you learn to cook?"
Gemma said softly, "When I was young, my grandparents were busy. I always cooked after school and waited for them to come back."
I put down my fork, picked up my drink, and clinked glasses with her. "I wish us both better and better in the future."
"Yeah." Gemma smiled.
As we ate, Gemma would look me over from time to time.
"Is there something dirty on my face?" I asked, puzzled.
Gemma said, "Natalia, is there something troubling you?"
I was stunned, wondering if it was already so obvious.
I smiled with self-mockery. "It's nothing much. I'm just worried about a good friend."
"Is it Dr. Stuart?" Gemma asked me.
She had more delicate thoughts than I had expected.
I looked at Gemma in surprise and saw her sigh. "Dr. Stuart seems to like you a lot, Natalia. Forrest caught him and wanted to use him to ask you out so that he could control you.
"However, Dr. Stuart was worried about your safety and refused to cooperate no matter what. In the end, even Forrest couldn't do anything with him."
