Quinn's words stunned me.
I almost thought I heard it wrong. "What did you say?"
"Natalia, I can't forget you." Quinn calmly repeated what he had just said. After a pause, he said in a deep voice, "In the past three years, I've gotten used to your being around."
My heart was beating wildly. For a moment I didn't know what to say. I had mixed feelings.
If it were in the past, when Quinn said something like that to me, I would have gone mad with joy. But after everything I'd been through, my feelings for him became complicated.
He said he couldn't forget me. And I was not stupid enough to think he loved me.
Suppressing the bitterness in my heart, I laughed self-deprecatingly. "Three years is neither short nor long.
"If someone had washed my clothes and cooked for me for the past three years and waited for me to come home every day, I couldn't forget him, either."
When I finished, Quinn's frown deepened.
"You still blame me?" he asked me abruptly.
I shook my head. Quinn was the last person I wanted to blame. I would only blame myself.
Quinn's thin lips parted slightly, wanting to say something else.
At that moment, the car stopped. We had arrived at the Madden Mansion.
Drake opened the door for me and said respectfully, "Mr. Madden, Mrs. Madden, please get off."
I was stunned. After the divorce, I hadn't heard anyone call me "Mrs. Madden" for long. Alex must have informed Drake in advance.
Quinn had no experience in carrying children. After I got out of the car, I took Benedict into my arms.
After entering the living room, I saw the whole Madden family were all there.
Joseph and his wife greeted me politely. They helped Alex up and welcomed me with a smile.
Georgia was left sitting alone on the sofa. She still had a dark expression on her face and ignored me.
"Is this Benedict? He's cute." Tina smiled and flattered Alex. "Alex, he's indeed the Madden family's child. Look at his nose and eyes. He's so handsome."
"Yeah, he looks much like Quinn when he was young." Alex reached out his trembling hand and touched Benedict's face, smiling from ear to ear.
"Natalia, you've just arrived. Are you thirsty? Go sit down and rest for a while. I'll carry Benedict," Tina said solicitously.
I nodded. I knew Tina wanted to carry Benedict so she could use the opportunity to get closer to Alex.
I still felt a little uncomfortable with Alex. I didn't want to deal with such an occasion, so I handed Benedict to Tina.
Quinn took my hand and led me to the sofa, asking me in a low voice, "What do you want to drink? I'll get it for you."
I wasn't used to his sudden tenderness. For a moment, I forgot we were in the Madden Mansion. Children of wealthy families had to show off their acting skills. Quinn probably needed to play a loving husband.
When I came back to my senses, I smiled. "Orange juice would be great. Thank you."
Quinn went to the kitchen. I sat on the sofa, looked up, and saw Georgia staring at me faintly.
"Oh, congratulations! The ugly duckling has become a white swan," Georgia mocked me.
Ever since I married into the Madden family, I had no grudge against her, but she picked on me in every way possible.
Now that I recalled how she had bribed Owen to harm me, I was still furious.
I sneered and retorted, "Georgia, you must be kidding. I'm just an ordinary person. But I hear an ugly duckling that grows among the swans and mistakenly thinks she's a white swan. She's covered in duck's feathers but insists she is a swan on the lake."
As soon as I finished speaking, Georgia suddenly frowned and fumed. "How dare you mock me?"
"Natalia was just telling a joke. Aunt Georgia, don't take it seriously." Quinn came back with the orange juice and happened to hear our conversation.
He looked at Georgia and said, "Actually, it's easy to tell if it's an ugly duckling or a white swan. A white swan is noble and dignified. Only ducks peck and quack at people."
His words made Georgia's face turn green with anger.
Since Alex was present, Georgia did not dare to be impudent. She could only lower her voice and say fiercely, "Quinn, don't think you can sit firmly in the Madden Group!"
Georgia stood up and left the sofa angrily. She shouted at the maid beside her, "What time is it? Go see how long it will take for dinner to be ready."
"Natalia, that's what Georgia is like. Don't mind her." A calm voice sounded.
Joseph walked up to us at some point. He smiled awkwardly at me and tried to smooth things over for Georgia.
I could only reply politely, "Georgia is an elder, so I naturally respect her."
"Good, you're a sensible child." Joseph nodded. "It's almost time to eat. Let's go to the dining room."
"Is Alex still playing with Benedict?" I asked subconsciously. I turned around and saw Benedict no longer in the living room.
Joseph said, "Benedict looks sleepy. We had the babysitter bring him to bed."
Joseph told me Alex had hired two of Enschester's most professional babysitters before we arrived.
The Madden family was rich, so I didn't have to worry about hiring a high-paying babysitter.
After I said so, Quinn took my hand and led me to the dining room.
His palm was wide and warm. When he interlocked his fingers with mine, he exerted more strength. It was as if he was worried that I would suddenly break free and escape.
In the dining room, everyone had taken their seats. Alex looked very happy as he told the servants to serve the food with a smiling face.
The meal went well.
Alex was polite to me. When he finally mentioned my remarriage with Quinn, he laughed heartily. "It's good that Benedict's parents can get back together.
"If you have any requests, tell us. The Madden family will give whatever we can."
Seeing that, Tina quickly curried favor with Alex. "Since there will be another wedding, it should be bigger than the first time.
"Lindsey is studying fashion design in Drofton City. Her teacher is the world's top wedding dress designer. I'll get her to make a top-notch custom-made wedding dress for Natalia."
Lindsey was Joseph and Tina's daughter. She lived in Drofton City all year round, and I had not seen her much.
"Thanks for your kindness, Tina. I've booked the wedding dress," Quinn suddenly said.
I was surprised. Quinn had booked a wedding dress for me, huh? Why didn't I know? I thought he said that to reject Tina's favor politely.
After dinner, Alex suddenly said, "Natalia, I like Benedict very much. Why don't you let him stay with me for a few more days?"
I immediately declined. "Alex, I'm afraid I can't. My mother has been looking after Benedict for some time. Now, she has to see Benedict every night before she goes to bed."
When Alex heard what I said, he did not insist.
I checked the time. It was getting late, so I wanted to bring Benedict home.
So, Quinn instructed the babysitter to carry Benedict out.
The babysitter went upstairs. A moment later, she let out a scream.
