"I've seen you in the newspaper. You're York's sister, right? You're so beautiful! Nice to meet you. My name is June Vance. I'm an actress and York's future wife!" June giggled at me.
She was very straightforward and her smile was very appealing. I couldn't help but be infected by her.
"Oh my dear, didn't I tell you not to spout nonsense? What if someone secretly recorded it and uploaded it online?" June's assistant hurriedly chased after her. She was almost out of breath. She looked at York in embarrassment and said in a low voice, "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry. You know June's personality. She likes to joke around."
"I'm not joking!" June frowned unhappily and pouted. "If York marries me now, I'll immediately post on Twitter to announce my withdrawal from the industry!"
Hearing her words, her assistant was so frightened that she quickly covered her mouth.
York was speechless.
Seeing his ugly expression, I felt inexplicably happy.
It turned out that there was someone in this world that York could not handle.
June broke free and ran to my side. She asked me, "Natalia, are you free tonight? I want to treat you to a meal. York will come too!"
"What? I..."
Before I could finish, York suddenly interrupted me, "Aren't we going to be late for the meeting in the afternoon?"
He wanted me to help him escape, but I won't!
"What meeting?" I stared at him.
York's face darkened. In the next second, he grabbed my wrist and dragged me away. "We are already late, hurry up."
The assistant understood and went forward to block her. June could not catch up and shouted behind us, "Natalia, next time, I'll treat you to a meal!"
York dragged me out of the set.
I shook off his hand and stared at him with a gloating smile. "What's June's background? I think even you don't dare to offend her?"
York could easily get rid of her if she was just an ordinary actress.
He took out his car keys and said expressionlessly, "June's father is a soldier. He saved Dad's life back then."
It seemed like Ben had instructed York to take good care of June. No wonder she was chosen as the female lead.
"June is beautiful and has a good personality. She's actually quite compatible with you," I said, raising my eyebrows at him. "You're not even tempted by her. Looks like there's really something wrong with your sexual orientation."
It was a rare opportunity for me to vent my anger. I looked at York's defeated expression and felt extremely happy.
He seemed to be so angry that he directly ignored me. He opened the car door and said to me without looking back, "I just received a message from Mom. Mary will go home today and ask us to go back early to accompany her."
Ever since I returned to the Smith family, Mary came back from the Care Home more often.
Mary likes to chat with me, and I'm happy to spend time with her.
"Okay." I opened the passenger door.
I was about to get into the car when a horn sounded beside me. I turned around and was surprised to see that it was Quinn.
Why was he here?
"What a coincidence!" I said, stunned.
Quinn got out of the car and stared at me with his cold eyes. He said expressionlessly, "I'm here to pick you up."
He specially came to pick me up?
York noticed him and rolled down the car window. He said sarcastically, "Isn't it too late to pretend to be a good husband after your divorce?"
Quinn ignored him. He opened the door and called me, "Come on."
York didn't give up and mocked, "Quinn, if Natalia wasn't the daughter of the Smith family, would you still be so fawning?"
His words were too much. I was about to retort.
Quinn was one step ahead of me. He turned around and stared at York. He said calmly, "I love Natalia. So I want to marry her."
Quinn had a serious expression. I didn't expect him to answer like this. For a moment, my heart raced.
York sneered and looked at me impatiently, "Natalia, Mary is still waiting for you at home."
That was right, we promised Mary that we would go home to accompany her.
I explained to Quinn and asked him why he was here.
After listening to me, he pondered for a moment before taking out his phone and making a call.
The moment the call connected, Quinn greeted politely, "Hello, Mrs. Smith."
Why was he calling Shirley?
I was shocked when I heard Quinn continue, "I'm with Natalia now. When I hear that Mary is here, I also want to visit her. Okay, thank you for your invitation."
Quinn hung up the phone and said to me proudly, "Your mother invited me to come along. Let's go."
Then, he casually glanced at York.
York's face darkened. He had suffered consecutive defeats today, and his face was filled with displeasure.
However, since Shirley had already agreed, he could not say anything else.
He could only quickly close the car window and step on the accelerator to drive away.
When I got into the car, I realized that there was a bag on the passenger seat. It contained a cup of coffee and a tiramisu.
"Haven't you eaten yet?" I asked automatically.
As far as I knew, Quinn did not like desserts and rarely drank coffee.
"I bought it for you." He started the car steadily and focused on driving. "I asked Raelynn about your taste. It should be your favorite."
My heart skipped a beat. I wasn't used to his sudden change.
I stared at the coffee and cake in my hand. For a moment, I was at a loss. I wanted to say something, but my mind was in a mess. I didn't know what to say.
"Thank you," I said.
I sipped the coffee. The sugar-free coffee was bitter, a strong contrast to the sweetness of tiramisu.
I've always loved this pairing because I think they resemble my relationship with Quinn in the past.
Our relationship was very bitter, but I was desperately searching for the sweetness in it.
After a while, we returned to the Smith family.
Because we had divorced once, Mary did not have a good impression of Quinn at first. Today, for some reason, after seeing Quinn, she was all smiles and kept chatting with him.
Quinn didn't mind her nagging and answered whatever she asked. He made Mary very happy.
After dinner, I personally drove Mary back.
Ever since Benedict returned home, I had not been to the Care Home for a long time. Looking at the familiar environment, I sighed.
A passing nurse recognized me. "Ms. Hinton, long time no see!"
"Hi, it's been a long time." I smiled and asked her, "Is Rose on duty today?"
She was stunned and said in surprise, "Don't you know? Rose is no longer in charge of the Care Home."
"What?" I was surprised.
I remember Rose saying that her lifelong dream was to open the Brandt Care Home all over the world.
