I was shocked. Then I frowned and said, "Jess really asked you to resign and be a housewife?"
I couldn't believe Jess would ask Raelynn to do that. He probably had forgotten what era we were in. He shouldn't be so chauvinistic.
Raelynn smiled bitterly and said, "Not only that but Jess says that he can support me. He also feels that it's not safe for me to work as an assistant."
Raelynn lost control of her emotions and wiped away the tears on her face with the tissue.
She choked back a sob. "He's too bossy. I'm not quitting my job for him."
I didn't interrupt Raelynn as I knew she needed a listening ear more than words of comfort.
She continued sobbing and said, "I really hope that Jess respects my decision. Just now, he mentioned resigning and becoming a housewife again. That's why I said those words in a fit of anger. I didn't expect him to leave..."
I felt sad for Raelynn and comforted her. "Love is like this. There will be bickering, arguments, and cold wars, but it will get better after both of you communicate slowly."
"I understand his intentions, but he shouldn't said that it was for my own good and trap me in our marriage." Raelynn said sadly, "Mr. Madden didn't even restrict you from pursuing a career. Why must Jess be like that?"
"Alright, it's getting dark." I pulled Raelynn up. "Let's get in the car first. It's not worth it to cry here especially when the wind is getting stronger."
"I don't want to go home. Can you accompany me to the bar for a while?" Raelynn looked at me with teary eyes.
I was moved by her sad look. "Alright, I'll accompany you to the bar. But let me make it clear that you're not allowed to drink too much."
I drove toward the bar we usually frequented. Along the way, I received a message from Quinn. He asked me if the commencement ceremony for the Dazzling Project had ended.
Since Raelynn was still in the car, it wasn't convenient for me to explain much to Quinn.
I just told him that Raelynn and I went to the bar. I sent the bar's location to him.
With Quinn's intelligence, he would definitely contact Jess.
When the car arrived at the bar, it was obvious that Raelynn couldn't wait to drown her sorrows. She quickly pulled me out of the car, and we went into the bar quickly.
The sound waves and lights overwhelmed me. I didn't notice my phone vibrating at all.
As I was afraid that Raelynn would get drunk, I kept a close eye on her. I stayed by her side the entire time.
At first, she only drank mocktails. In the end, the more she thought about it, the more depressed she felt. She immediately ordered whiskey.
"You can only drink this much. Don't forget what you promised me." I stopped her and whispered.
"Let me drink. All my thoughts are about Jess. Only if I'm drunk, I will forget about him."
Raelynn leaned on my shoulder. Her tears fell on my neck, and I felt very sad for her.
I didn't stop her.
However, I reminded the bartender to just add a little whiskey. When Raelynn wasn't paying attention, I slipped him a few bills as a tip.
The bartender understood. He could tell that Raelynn was drunk because of love. He had seen this scene too many times.
Raelynn got what she wanted. She drank the whiskey hoping to drown her sorrows. She cried as she drank.
After some time, I took out my phone to check the time.
I was shocked when I saw the screen of my phone. Quinn called me three times, but I didn't pick up.
The latest WhatsApp message was from Quinn. He and Jess were rushing to the bar together. He asked me and Raelynn to wait. They would be here in 20 minutes.
I looked at the time and left the bar with Raelynn. I should be able to meet Quinn and Jess at the entrance so I paid the bill and we left.
Raelynn had drunk too much whiskey. Even though the alcohol concentration wasn't that high, she became drunk.
Her cheeks turned reddish. Coupled with tears, she looked even more pitiful.
I held onto Raelynn and walked out of the bar. A tall man suddenly blocked my way.
I was caught off guard. I lost my balance and was about to fall but I tried my best to hold on to Raelynn.
But in the next second, the man bent down and put his arm around my waist. He even held Raelynn with his other hand.
"Pretty woman, I'm really sorry. Are you and your friend alright?" He apologized, but his expression was suspicious.
I smelled the pungent smell of alcohol on him and realized that this person was drunk and was looking for some thrills.
I frowned and said coldly, "We're fine. Please let go of me first."
"Pretty woman, don't be so fierce. I think your friend is drunk. Why don't I help you to carry her?"
As the drunk man spoke, he actually started to touch Raelynn.
Not only did he not let go of my waist, but he also moved his hand downward. His other hand exerted more strength and pulled Raelynn into his arms.
It was useless to reason with such a scumbag.
"I told you to let us go!"
I was furious. Without hesitation, I raised my leg and kicked his lower body.
The drunk man realized that something was wrong and wanted to dodge, but he was too slow.
I used my pointed shoe and kicked him in the thigh.
"Fuck, you're fucking strong!" He felt humiliated and flew into a rage. He covered his thigh and jumped on the spot, cursing in pain.
I took the opportunity to grab Raelynn and run toward the entrance of the bar.
"Don't run. When I catch you, I'll deal with you!" As the drunk man shouted, he chased after us.
There were still people entering the bar and coming out. Someone sensed my predicament.
However, the drunk man chasing after us shouted flirtatiously, "Baby, don't be angry. I won't drink next time."
As soon as he said that, the passers-by thought that it was just a lovers' spat. After looking at us a few times, they dispersed.
I couldn't care less about defending myself. I just wanted to leave with Raelynn as soon as possible. I was hoping that Quinn and Jess would appear as soon as possible.
The drunk man caught up with us. He smiled wretchedly and said, "Baby, can you run faster than me while holding her?"
As he had the advantage of being taller than us, he pressed me and Raelynn against the cold tile wall!
