"By the way, as for Dad's affair with Bernie..." York looked at me hesitantly.
"Don't worry, I won't mention a word." I was aware of that. "Just like you said, Dad and Mom will settle this matter. Since things have come to this, we can't interfere too much."
Only then did York nod in satisfaction.
After I left the Smith Group, I specially drove to Red Velvet and bought a few of Mary's favorite snacks. Then, I drove to the care home.
"Natalia, why are you here?" Mary got up excitedly and smiled so happily.
I hurried over and helped Mary back to her seat. "I miss you. Of course, I have to come and visit you." I held Mary's hand and shook it a few times like a spoiled child. "By the way, I also brought your favorite snacks. They're all sugar-free. You don't have to worry about your blood sugar rising."
Mary loved sweets, but she couldn't eat too much because of her health. Her diet was strictly controlled. Even if it was a sugar-free snack, she had to control her intake on a daily basis.
"I knew you know me the best. Last time I really wanted to eat the newly launched brownies and kept thinking about it," Mary said with a pout.
I smiled and opened the box of snacks. "Grandma, just indulge a little for now. I'll come to treat you often in the future, but you mustn't overeat, okay?"
"Okay. I'm so glad to hear you say that." Mary took the snack and took a small bite. She smiled with satisfaction.
I chatted with Mary, ate snacks and coffee with her, and even talked about the flowers and plants on her terrace. When Mary was a little tired, I helped her lie down and rest.
"Natalia, you should go back. It's getting late." Mary patted my hand.
"Okay." I obediently agreed and smiled at Mary. "I'll come over again tomorrow and send over the flower cultivation manual that you want to see."
Mary said, "No need. Just come over and see me when you're free. Don't keep going back and forth."
"It's very convenient to drive here. Don't you want to see me?" I asked.
Mary smiled and nodded. "Alright, be careful on the way."
"Sure." After saying goodbye to Mary, I left the nursing home.
Unexpectedly, just as I reached the parking lot, I bumped into Aiden.
I had intentionally spoken to him in that manner before, hoping to prevent him from becoming disheartened.
Later, I discreetly sent someone to inquire about his health and situation. I learned that he was recovering well after being discharged from the hospital, but due to his injuries, he had also resigned from his job as a doctor.
Originally, I thought that Aiden would go home to recuperate after being discharged. I didn't expect him to appear in the care home.
At this moment, from a distance, I saw that he was in good spirits. His hair was cut shorter, making him look even more energetic. He no longer had the decadence and depression he had when he was hospitalized.
For a moment, I didn't know if I should greet him, but I stopped in the parking lot because I was distracted.
Aiden clearly saw me too. He was obviously stunned for a moment, and his eyes lit up.
Just as I thought that he would brush past me, he took the initiative to take a few steps closer and stop in front of me.
"Natalia, I didn't expect to see you here. How have you been?" Aiden greeted me with a smile.
This clearly exceeded my expectations. For a moment, I felt a lump in my throat. I nodded repeatedly and replied, "My grandma lives in this care home. I'm here to visit her today."
I paused for a moment before asking, "Have you been well recently?"
Aiden shrugged and said in a relaxed tone, "As you can see, I've recovered very well. I also know about your grandmother, but I was so surprised to see you that I didn't react."
The short silence made the atmosphere a little strange.
"Previously, I..." I wanted to take this opportunity to explain to Aiden, but he suddenly apologized to me.
I didn't understand and looked at him in surprise.
Aiden saw my reaction and laughed for once. I guessed that he wanted to say more than that. It was just that he realized that it was not appropriate.
"Natalia. Actually, I only realized later why you said those things that day." He looked at me gently. "I misunderstood your good intentions, so I want to apologize to you solemnly."
Then he nodded slightly at me and bowed. "I'm sorry. I misunderstood you."
He smiled bitterly and sighed. "I have to thank you too. What you said the other day completely woke me up. Everything that happened before was my own wishful thinking. It brought you a lot of trouble and hurt you unknowingly, so I hope you can forgive me."
I waved my hands. I didn't expect Aiden to apologize to me so formally. "You don't have to do this. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have suffered those accidental injuries."
I looked at Aiden and rubbed my nose. "I should thank you too. Without your help, Benedict wouldn't have grown up healthy and stayed by my side."
"The two of us are apologizing and thanking each other. It sounds so strange." Aiden could not help but laugh.
I shook my head and smiled as well. "What's so strange about it? You're just thinking too much. Actually, after all that has happened, you should know that I'm the one who started it. The kidnapping of the uninhabited island caused a series of accidents. I feel guilty and grateful to you."
Aiden didn't agree with me.
While we were talking, a car drove over from the side. Aiden subconsciously protected me to prevent the car from rubbing against me.
His subconscious protective action made me see the scar on his hand. Although he had undergone many repair surgeries and rehabilitation, if one looked closely, one could still see the traces left behind.
"Are you alright?" Aiden did not notice that I was distracted. He took the initiative to suggest, "It's rare to meet you. If you have time, shall we sit down and talk?" He raised his hand and pointed to a bench by the tree-lined road.
Seeing that it was still early, I didn't refuse. "Okay, I have something to ask you too."
Actually, I wanted to know why Aiden would appear in the care home. Was it because he had found a new purpose to strive for? He loved being a doctor so much that even if he couldn't be the lead surgeon, he could still excel in other aspects.
Also, what was the relationship between Aiden and Rose? Had he accepted Rose taking care of him?
As I sat down on the bench, I saw a vending machine. Aiden walked over and bought bottled juice. It was my favorite brand and flavor.
"Thank you." I took it.
"Don't stand on ceremony with me." Aiden sat down next to me and smiled. "What do you want to ask me?"
"Of course, I want to ask you why you're in the care home." I clenched the juice in my hand and looked at Aiden expectantly.
