Shirley smiled and said, "You've been sending me Benedict's videos every night for the past few days. Why are you jealous of Benedict now?"
"I don't care. I want a gift too. Previously, when I went back, you were always resting, so I didn't want to disturb you. Now that I've found an opportunity, of course, I have to wheedle." I wanted to make Shirley happy, so I shamelessly asked for a gift.
Shirley enjoyed it very much. When she hung up the phone, she was grinning from ear to ear.
After work, I called Quinn and mentioned that I was going to the Smith family for dinner tonight. Quinn had to attend an important international conference at seven o'clock, so he couldn't accompany me and Benedict to the Smith family.
"It's okay. Since it's an international video conference, there must be something urgent to deal with." I said to Quinn, "I'm going back to the Smith family to see how Ben and my mother are getting along. I also want to chat with my mother. I might go back later, so I want to tell you in advance."
"Alright, then I'll get the caregiver to accompany you. She can help you take care of Benedict," Quinn said considerately.
I agreed and chatted with him for a while more before hanging up.
At night, I drove to the Smith family. The caregiver carried Benedict while I carried the potted plants that I had bought. Shirley was the same as Mary.
Recently, she liked to personally take care of flowers and plants. Naturally, I had to cater to her taste and let Shirley do what she liked in her free time.
"Benedict, let grandma hug you." When Shirley saw Benedict, she instantly smiled.
"Grandma," Benedict called out softly and snuggled into Shirley's embrace with a chubby smile.
Shirley's heart was melted.
York came to welcome me personally. He took the potted plant I bought for Shirley and even commented on it.
"These are the petunias that Mom mentioned before, right?" York sized them up seriously.
I was a little surprised. "Oh, you actually recognize petunias."
"I can't help it." York laughed self-deprecatingly. "I saw them on TV with Mom too many times. These are popular for their long-lasting flowers throughout the summer."
As soon as he put down the petunias, Ben came out of the kitchen and arranged for the family to take a seat.
I didn't expect Ben to be wearing an apron. I subconsciously looked at York and asked, "Is Dad trying to please Mom?"
York rolled his eyes and said in a low voice, "He's making amends for his mistakes and trying his best to please Mom."
When I sat down to eat, I realized how exaggerated York's "solicitousness" was.
"This is your favorite crab meat and crab roe. I know you're afraid of the taste, so I mixed it with mashed garlic. Try it." Ben personally peeled the crab meat for Shirley and processed the crab roe before handing it to her.
He said, "There's also your favorite apple juice. It's most suitable to eat with crabs. There's also soup stewed in the soup pot. It's simmering on a small fire. Drink some soup after eating the crab will make your stomach more comfortable."
York turned to me and explained, "For this meal, Dad personally contacted the ingredients and even found a nutritionist to set up a menu. It was all arranged according to Mom's preferences."
I listened with mixed feelings. When Ben was good to someone, he truly went into the details, almost to the point of plucking stars for Shirley.
However, when I thought about how he treated other women like this, I felt a little jealous.
Although Shirley's reaction during the meal was cold, she would respond.
