"So what? Did Grandmother's illness act up after she saw Quinn?" The veins on York's forehead bulged as he rushed to ask.
Aiden allowed York to tug at his collar. His gaze passed York and landed on me.
"York, let him finish his sentence. Don't make assumptions about Quinn!" I retorted unhappily.
I saw the grudge between York and Quinn. Now that Mary's death had implicated Quinn, I could understand why York was so angry.
"Okay, Natalia." York raised his hands and glanced at me coldly. He warned, "If Grandma's death is related to Quinn, I won't let him off!"
At this moment, Aiden also felt York's anger. He continued, "Mary and Quinn chatted for a long time. I was a little worried, so I took the initiative to remind Quinn. However, not long after Quinn left, Mary had a heart attack."
"Are you saying that the content of Grandma's conversation with Quinn was the cause of the heart attack?" I asked the question that was on my mind.
Aiden nodded. He seemed to have made up his mind before speaking. "Natalia, when I was approaching Mary's room, I vaguely heard Quinn mention to her that Mr. Smith had an affair with his secretary. At that time, I was especially shocked."
York slammed his fist on the flyer hanging on the wall. This sound was especially ear-piercing in the quiet corridor late at night.
Ben, who was originally guarding Shirley in the observation room, was alarmed and ran over in a panic.
York ignored Ben. He stared at me with bloodshot eyes. "Natalia, you were the one who told Quinn about Dad cheating on Bernie, right?"
I was speechless. Back at the wedding, Quinn already knew about Ben and Bernie.
However, I felt that things weren't that simple. Quinn wouldn't have mentioned this matter to Mary without any sense of propriety.
However, before I could say anything, York shook off the blood on the back of his hand and said fiercely, "Now that Grandma was killed by Quinn, I have to ask him about it. Why did he do this? Why did he do this to an innocent old lady?"
York turned around angrily and stormed out.
He had clearly lost his mind and wanted to settle scores with Quinn. With his personality, he might do something even crazier.
I quickly stopped him. "Don't be rash. This matter is obviously very fishy. I'm sure he wouldn't do that." I tried to defend Quinn.
York said in disbelief, "Natalia, are you still protecting Quinn at a time like this?"
He pointed in the direction of the resuscitation room and said, "Grandma is lying in there. She's the grandmother who loves you the most. She was killed by Quinn. Are you crazy? Are you going to protect the murderer who killed Grandma?"
I wanted to defend myself and refute York's words on the spot. "Quinn isn't that kind of person. What's his motive for doing this? He knows very well about my relationship with Grandma."
York sneered, "Motive? Quinn's motive is very simple. He didn't tell you when he went to the care home today, did he?"
After saying this, he turned around and raised his chin at Aiden. "Natalia, you haven't forgotten what Aiden said, right? The purpose of Quinn going to the care home is not to visit anyone, but to look for Aiden.
"Do I need to remind you of your relationship with Aiden? Aiden was injured to save you back then."
I could tell what York was implying and subconsciously looked at Aiden.
His eyes trembled slightly. I was very familiar with the expression on his face. It also made me realize that York's guess was not groundless.
York's tone was cold as he said to me, "Quinn's motive is obvious. He suspects that you and Aiden are still in a relationship. Something must have happened between him and Aiden. That's why when Grandma looked for him, he revealed that Dad had an affair to take revenge on you."
"No, this is just your subjective speculation." I shook my head in denial.
York didn't give up. He was so angry that he laughed. "Speculation? Then tell me, how did an outsider like Aiden know about Dad's affair and that the person he cheated on was a female secretary? Natalia, I really want to know what you are thinking."
He gritted his teeth and said, "Other than your husband Quinn, who else in the family knows about Dad's affair with Bernie? If he didn't mention it to Grandma, how would Aiden know about it?
"Natalia, even if you want to refute, you should find a good excuse. Aiden grew up with you. Do you think he would lie?"
York's words were reasonable. Most importantly, when I looked at Aiden for confirmation, his expression already told me the answer.
It was a fact that Quinn had taken the initiative to look for Aiden at the care home. It was also a fact that the two of them had an unpleasant conversation and argued.
Having grown up together with him, I knew Aiden's microexpression all too well. For a moment, I felt my scalp tingle.
On the day I met Aiden at the care home, I deliberately hid my encounter with Aiden when I was questioned by Quinn.
It seemed that all of this was traceable. I deserved it. Even so, I still felt that Quinn wouldn't hurt Mary.
"Stop arguing. Mrs. Smith is already awake." At this moment, the doctor in the observation room reminded us.
Ben was the first to rush into the observation room. York, who was furious from embarrassment, glanced at me viciously. He gave up on looking for Quinn and jogged to the observation room.
Only I stood rooted to the ground with tears in my eyes. I turned to look at Aiden and quickly pulled him to a corner.
"Was what you said just now the truth?" I was obviously doubting Aiden.
Aiden looked at me in surprise and sadness appeared in his eyes. "Natalia, do you think I was lying? Even if Mary didn't pass away today, as a doctor, I wouldn't joke about this."
"What did Quinn talk about when he came to look for you today?" But just as I finished speaking, my phone rang. It was Quinn.
I gripped the phone tightly and instantly chose to answer. I subconsciously moved away from Aiden.
"I'm at the hospital..." Before he could speak, I told him about Mary's death.
"What? Did Mary pass away?" Quinn was shocked.
Even through the phone, I could sense his shock.
"Send me the address. I'll rush over immediately," Quinn asked me.
"Wait, don't rush over." I asked Quinn, "Did you see my grandmother today?"
Quinn was stunned for a moment before answering truthfully, "Yes, I've seen Mary."
