The rest of the conversation was basically me picking up interesting things to tell Shirley. She just listened most of the time and rarely expressed her opinion.
From the beginning to the end, Shirley did not mention Quinn at all. I knew that she still had a grudge against Quinn.
I knew very well in my heart that if I did not investigate clearly, Shirley would probably become more and more distant from me because of this matter.
Hence, that night, after I left the Smith family with Benedict, I sent a message to contact Aiden. Other than him, no one could prove that Quinn had nothing to do with Mary's death.
Aiden replied quickly. He promised to meet me tomorrow.
I kept thinking about how to ask Aiden when I saw him tomorrow. When the maid knocked on the door to bring me the medicine, I almost didn't come back to my senses.
"Mrs. Madden, you should rest early after taking the medicine. Mr. Madden has been leaving early and returning late these few days. He asked me to tell you not to wait for him," said the maid.
I didn't say anything. I finished the bowl of medicine and let the servant go back to rest.
The next day, I met Aiden in the restaurant. As soon as he sat down, he frowned and said with a worried expression, "You don't look too good. Is it because of work?"
I said, "I see you've heard, right? I've resigned from the Madden Group."
Aiden nodded. "I saw it on the Internet. It seems to be related to the Dazzling Project."
"But I didn't want to talk about this when I asked to meet you today." I said frankly, "Aiden, I hope you can tell me the truth. What exactly happened on the day Grandma had a heart attack?"
At that, Aiden fell silent. I caught a flicker of panic in his eyes.
"We grew up together, so I've always trusted you." I stared at him intently and asked in a low voice, "But on the day my grandmother passed away, you lied to York, right?"
Aiden did not say yes or no. He looked at me and said slowly, "Natalia. Is there any point in saying this now?"
His words drove me crazy. I said angrily, "What do you mean by that? Why did you say that just to frame Quinn?"
I thought I knew Aiden very well, but he had become especially unfamiliar now. His current attitude confirmed my guess.
Why would people change? It was the same for Quinn and Aiden. What exactly was unchanging? Had I changed too?
I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. I wanted to continue asking him.
At the same time, Aiden suddenly stood up with a complicated expression.
He got up and walked around the dining table and sat down beside me. "Natalia, please believe me. No matter what happens, I don't want you to be threatened by Quinn. He will only hurt you, make you sad, and make you unhappy. Why don't you understand?"
I was stunned. "No one threatened me. What kind of rumors did you believe?" I looked at Aiden in disbelief and suddenly understood. "That's why you lied in the hospital that day, right?"
"Natalia, no matter what I do, I won't hurt you." Aiden didn't answer the question. He repeatedly begged me, "Natalia, believe me, okay?"
I shook my head and smiled bitterly. I looked at him with a serious gaze. "If you don't want to hurt me, tell me the real reason why my grandmother passed away."
Aiden pursed his lips, clearly unwilling to say it.
I was completely disappointed in him. My anger surged and I said madly, "Aiden, I won't believe a person who lied to me!" With that, I got up and prepared to leave.
The next second, Aiden actually held my hand.
