I took a deep breath and stopped crying.
Quinn handed me a tissue and asked, "Why didn't you call me?"
I took the tissue and dried my tears. "I know Dazzling Project is important to Madden Group," I whispered to him. "So..."
"So you think that Dazzling Project is more important than you?" Quinn interrupted me. He frowned and said unhappily, "Natalia, you still refuse to open your heart to me after we remarry."
I was stunned. I couldn't argue with what he said.
It turned out that it wasn't just me. Even Quinn was sensitive enough to sense the change in me toward him after we remarried.
"We did have some unhappy things in the past, but I promised to make it up to you," Quinn said, looking puzzled. "Why aren't you willing to give me a chance?"
I pursed my lips and wanted to ask Quinn if he loved me.
In my memory, he had never said "I love you" to me.
I opened my mouth, but the words seemed to fail me. I couldn't utter a single word.
I looked up and saw his deep gaze, still waiting for my answer.
After a long time, I smiled and said softly, "Quinn, thank you for everything you've done for me. Actually, I think we're doing quite well now."
He didn't have to make up for something deliberately, and I wasn't going to get bogged down by his overtures.
Since I no longer dare to love him, let me maintain the courage to withdraw at any time.
As soon as I finished my words, Quinn narrowed his eyes and stared at me for a long time.
I expected him to get angry or slam the door and leave.
However, in the next second, he looked away and looked at the unconscious Shirley on the bed. Then he said lightly, "Jenny kidnapped your mother for a deal with Bernie."
"How did you know?" My eyes widened in shock.
"Finn told me," Quinn said. "After knowing that something happened to your mother, I immediately sent him to investigate Jenny. I rushed back to the country because I was worried that you and your mother would be plotted against by Ben again."
Although Quinn was overseas, Finn stayed in the country to deal with company-related matters while he was assigned to look after my safety. When Finn told Quinn about Shirley's accident, Quinn immediately began to plan everything.
Holding my breath, I saw Quinn take out a file and place it on the bedside table.
"This is the relevant information that Finn found," Quinn said calmly. "After you read it, you will understand why Jenny kidnapped your mother. Contact me if you need my help when the time comes."
Then, he pretended to turn around and leave.
I could feel him trying to control his anger.
What I said just then embarrassed him.
My heart was beating wildly. I didn't know how to explain it and could only subconsciously grab his hand.
Quinn stopped in his tracks and turned around to look at me. He asked in confusion, "Is there anything else?"
"Thank you," I said, looking up at him.
His big eyes were unreadable as he said in a deep voice, "You're welcome."
"Do you have anything else to say?" Quinn asked me. I shook my head, and his eyes darkened. He indifferently added, "I still have a meeting tomorrow morning. I'll go home."
I pursed my lips and let go of his hand.
Quinn walked away and finally disappeared outside the ward.
I stared at the empty door in a daze. After an unknown time, the caregiver woke up and looked for me. "Ms. Hinton, you don't look well. Do you want to go back and rest early?"
I came to my senses, grabbed the file folder from the nightstand, and left the hospital.
I opened the file in the garage. The contents shocked me.
Andrew, Jenny's son, did not simply drown by accident!
Callum was a gambler. After he divorced Jenny 10 years ago, he still had a gambling personality and ended up in debt.
Callum was desperate and wanted to ask Jenny for money. Naturally, Jenny refused.
On a weekend six months ago, Callum secretly went to school to find Andrew, who was having a tutoring session. He coaxed Andrew to chat at a nearby reservoir because he missed him.
During that time, Callum also borrowed Andrew's phone and called Jenny to extort her.
Jenny was worried about Andrew's safety and could only agree to transfer money to Callum.
Unexpectedly, just a few minutes after Callum made the call and left, Andrew's bag accidentally fell into the water. To pick up his bag, Andrew accidentally fell into the reservoir. Andrew, who did not know how to swim, quickly sank...
Jenny was heartbroken. She thought Callum had caused Andrew's death and hated him to the core.
However, after an investigation by the local police, they determined Andrew's drowning was an accident and refused to file a case.
Jenny fell into hatred after that. She wanted to kill Callum to avenge Andrew.
However, Callum was a gambler. He had no fixed residence and was wandering everywhere. Jenny, a rural woman, couldn't find him.
Until a month ago, Bernie found Jenny and brought her Callum's hand and the miserable video of him being locked in a basement.
Bernie told Jenny that she could give Callum's life to her.
In exchange, Jenny needed to do something for her...
I already knew what happened next. Jenny had promised Bernie that she would lure and kidnap Shirley. She even wanted to kill Shirley.
I clenched the document tightly in my hands. Bernie and Ben were so scheming!
It was unknown how long they had been planning for Jenny, the pawn, to come along and let her take advantage of Shirley's kindness.
The information obtained by Quinn was detailed, but it could not be provided to the police as evidence.
I bit my lip, trying to decide what to do next.
Suddenly, I thought of something.
In the afternoon, Ben turned on the computer in the study. He hurriedly turned it off when he heard York was back,
'There must be some secret hidden in Ben's computer if I'm right,' I thought.
I phoned the Smith family the next afternoon. After learning that no one was at home, I drove straight back to the villa.
I easily entered the study and turned on Ben's computer. I was instantly dumbfounded.
It needed a password to log in.
I tried to type in Ben's birthday, but the password was wrong. I tried a few more Volkswagen numerical combinations until the computer prompted too many errors and needed to lock in for five minutes.
I stared at the screen and frowned, racking my brain to figure out what Ben's password might be.
"Dad, are you home?"
The door of the study was pushed open. York appeared before me the next second.
My ears buzzed, and my eyes widened as they met his.
"Natalia?" York looked at me suspiciously. His gaze landed on the computer, and he asked softly, "What are you doing?"
