My face flushed crimson to the tips of my ears as I stared at Quinn, dumbfounded and completely tongue-tied. All I could do was mumble, "You're such a smooth talker!"
Quinn teased, "How would you know I'm a smooth talker when you haven't even kissed me?"
Quinn arched his brows, his eyes crinkling with mirth. If it weren't for his usual restraint, he probably would've laughed out loud by now.
I shot Quinn a glare, feeling my cheeks burn even hotter.
I wasn't used to seeing Quinn like this, but deep down, it secretly made me happy.
Benedict was still asleep, and I didn't want to keep talking about such mushy stuff. I quickly steered the conversation back to Lindsey. "By the way, Lindsey mentioned she's planning a solo fashion show and wants to invite June as her guest model."
"Did you agree to introduce them?" Quinn asked casually.
"How could I refuse? Your sister speaks her mind so bluntly, she practically left me no choice," I chuckled softly. "Making the introduction isn't complicated anyway. I'll just take her to the film set when I have time. Whether she succeeds or not depends entirely on her. But honestly, I have a feeling Lindsey is destined for great things—she might just become a real powerhouse one day."
"Perhaps that's why Alex took a fancy to her and agreed to let her return home," Quinn mused thoughtfully.
I suddenly realized—without Alex's approval, Joseph and his wife would never have dared let Lindsey come back on their own.
I couldn't help but recall Quinn's earlier speculation. Surprised, I blurted out, "You mean Alex also intends for Lindsey to take over Georgia's clothes family?"
I just couln't figure it out—why would Alex make things even worse like this?
Quinn replied solemnly, "Alex's intentions are never easy to figure out. For now, Lindsey will begin her internship at Madden Group."
I sighed inwardly.
Born into the powerful Madden family, perhaps Lindsey's trials are only just beginning.
The next day, I headed to work at Maple Media.
At lunchtime, York called me to his office.
As soon as I stepped in, the familiar aroma of home-cooked food hit me.
Shirley beamed at me and waved me over. "Natalia, come eat with your brother while the food's still warm!"
"Mom, when did you get back?" I exclaimed in surprise, my face lighting up with joy. I rushed into Shirley's arms and hugged her tightly.
With Shirley around, I could always let my guard down and be my childish self again.
She gently patted my back and said tenderly, "I got back to Enschester this morning. Missing you both so much, I went straight home to prepare lunch and brought it over."
"Mom, looks like little sis isn't interested in your cooking. Well, I guess I'll just dig in by myself," York picked up his fork and interjected in a mock-serious tone.
I quickly slipped out of Shirley's embrace and eyed the table piled high with delicious home-cooked food. Shooting York a mock glare, I teased, "Mom made all my favorite dishes. You're just riding my coattails, and you still want to hog them all for yourself?"
Shirley covered her mouth, her shoulders shaking with suppressed laughter.
I took her seat and, without hesitation, grabbed her fork and started digging in.
York arched an eyebrow at me and teased Shirley, "Mom, little sis is in such high spirits—could she be expecting baby number two?"
I was sipping my soup when York's words nearly made me spit it out.
"York, stop talking nonsense already!" I groaned, rolling my eyes.
Shirley looked at us with her ever-gentle smile, shooting York a reproachful glance before chiming in, "It's wonderful that your sister and her brother-in-law get along so well. Stop teasing her already!"
I froze, cheeks burning.
"Ever since Quinn confessed his feelings to me that day, I've been walking on sunshine."
I had no idea it was this obvious to others!
York chuckled, then suddenly glanced at me before deftly changing the subject. "Mom, how was your trip to Sea City?" he asked Shirley.
Shirley was recounting her story with grace, while I happily savored every bite of the delicious home-cooked meal.
This warm, cozy feeling of home fills me with happiness.
After Shirley finished updating them on the Lee family in Sea City, York abruptly changed the subject and asked, "Mom, regarding the acquisition, did Uncle have any other conditions?"
"Uncle agreed to acquire Maple Media?" I exclaimed, surprised. "That's fantastic news!"
Shirley's main purpose for returning to the Lee family in Sea City was to save Maple Media.
"Ah, I was so caught up watching you two banter that I almost forgot to tell you," Shirley nodded with a smile. "During my recent trip to Sea City, I made a point of talking to your uncle. He was already aware of Maple Media's situation. After I showed him York's proposal, he agreed without making any additional requests."
"That's amazing!" I beamed, giving York an enthusiastic thumbs-up. "What kind of genius proposal did you come up with? You'll have to show me the details later!"
York chuckled softly and said casually, "The proposal was secondary. I think Uncle only agreed out of respect for Mom."
Shirley's eyes glistened with emotion as she responded, "After all, your uncle and I are blood siblings. I'm just grateful he still cares for his little sister."
"Mom, don't worry," I reassured Shirley. "Maple Media is in good shape operationally—we just need more working capital. Once the acquisition is complete and Maple Media joins forces with the Lee family, we'll reach new heights." Noticing her concern, I took the initiative to comfort her.
Since joining Maple Media, I've gotten a pretty good grasp of how things work here.
I was fully confident that York and I could turn Maple Media around together.
Before I knew it, the day of the wrap party for "Starry River" had arrived. As Maple Media's project lead, I was invited to attend.
At the wrap party venue, I saw Clarissa again.
It was the dead of winter. Clarissa was bundled up tightly in a black, knee-length puffer coat. Her face was bare and fair, with no trace of makeup—at a glance, she looked as pure and innocent as a recent high school graduate.
The director stood beside Clarissa, smiling warmly as they chatted.
Clarissa smiled and nodded occasionally, her demeanor graceful and poised.
Raelynn leaned in and whispered to me, "Wayne really favors her! I heard he even personally called to invite her. She barely got three minutes of screen time in "Starry River", but just looked at her putting on airs—acting like she's already some A-list celebrity!"
I chuckled and teased, "Did she ever wrong you? Why so much animosity?"
"Nat, she's Diana's twin sister! Just think about it—twins! If Diana's that rotten, what makes you think her sister's any better?" Raelynn snapped angrily.
I had to admit, Raelynn was the ultimate bestie material.
That's the thing about Raelynn—as my ride-or-die bestie, she automatically despises anyone who might pose a threat to me.
I chuckled, my mind drifting back to what Quinn had said that day.
I gazed at Clarissa, wondering, 'Could she really be different from Diana?'
