"Can you accept that there will always be another woman in Quinn's heart, and that he'll always put them first?" York spoke with heartfelt sincerity. In that moment, he seemed like a caring older brother.
My mind was completely disordered. After listening to him, my breathing became rapid.
I had to admit that York's analysis made a lot of sense. However, in this world, many people who understood all the reasoning still could not live well.
Of course, I knew Quinn's entanglement with the mother and daughter might never cease. However, what should I do? Falling in love with someone else? I could not even think about it.
I had given all my love to Quinn since the day we met ten years ago. I fell silent, biting my lips. Once again, I chose to run away from the truth.
"I'm getting sleepy. You should rest early too," I said, eager to end the conversation. Not willing to talk about it any longer, I hurried back to my room.
Sleep was out of the question that night. I lay awake, staring at the darkness until dawn.
Instead of hearing from Quinn, I got a call from the housekeeper. "Madam, Mr. Stuart is here to see you. But he doesn't seem quite himself..." the housekeeper said.
The housekeeper spoke cautiously and vaguely, telling me that while she was out shopping this morning, she ran into Aiden.
He was deliriously calling my name over and over. The housekeeper recognized him, so she brought him back home.
A chill ran down my spine as I instructed the housekeeper, "Take good care of him; I'll be back right away!"
Ever since the accident, Aiden had the mental capacity of a child. How could he have gone looking for me on his own? Not wasting another second, I called Rose, then jumped in my car and sped home.
The moment I stepped in, I urgently asked the housekeeper, "Where's Aiden?"
"He saw Benedict's toys and insisted on playing with them. He's in Benedict's room now," the housekeeper said.
I rushed into Benedict's room and found Aiden sitting on the floor with his back facing me, completely engrossed in playing with Legos.
"Aiden..." Seeing him like this again, my heart ached, and my voice trembled as I spoke.
Hearing my voice, Aiden turned his head around, still clutching a Lego piece in his hand. His face lit up with joy as he looked at me, then suddenly called out, "Natalia, come play with me!"
My heart trembled as I crouched down beside him, tears welling in my eyes. I softly asked, "Aiden, do you still recognize me?"
"Mm, mm!" He nodded eagerly twice and called out, "Natalia!" I could not hold it in anymore, and tears spilled down my cheeks.
In this world, Aiden might be the only one who genuinely cared for me since we were kids.
"Don't cry, Natalia!" Aiden panicked when he saw my tears. He dropped the Lego blocks in his hand and frantically wiped my face with his sleeve.
"I'm okay," I said with a tearful smile, trying to communicate with him. "How did you find your way here?"
Aiden stared at me blankly, his eyes full of confusion and a hint of grievance as if he could not quite grasp what I meant. My heart ached with sorrow, and I was just about to say something to comfort him.
Suddenly, Aiden's eyes widened in terror as he looked at me. He abruptly grabbed my hand and shouted, "Natalia, run! The bad guy is going to hurt you!"
He was extraordinarily strong. He lifted me from the floor and dragged me toward the door. Startled, I vigorously shook him off. At the same time, he froze on the spot. Then, his eyes closed, and he passed out.
"Aiden!" A voice suddenly rang out from the doorway. Rose burst into the living room just in time, catching Aiden in her arms.
