"York would actually let you be Maple Media's CEO?" Quinn caught the key point and asked me in astonishment.
From Quinn's perspective, York had always been a self-serving individual.
At first, I agreed with Quinn. But now, I saw things differently.
"It's not York, but our uncle," I said bluntly, deciding to reveal York's background to Quinn.
After all, Quinn was my husband.
Keeping June's secret weighed heavily on me. I couldn't bear hiding anything else from Quinn.
Quinn was much calmer than I'd expected. When he heard that York wasn't Shirley's biological son, he fell silent, lost in thought for a moment.
"What's on your mind?" I asked, curiosity in my voice.
Quinn snapped out of his thoughts and said thoughtfully, "Why would York go to such lengths to save Maple Media, only to hand it over to the Lee Group on a silver platter?"
I was stunned, still not understanding what he meant. "Isn't it because the Lee Group's investment can save Maple Media from collapse?"
"Really?" Quinn narrowed his eyes and countered, his business instincts razor-sharp. "You've seen Maple Media's financial reports. You probably know better than I that with numbers like those, even the Madden Group would jump at the chance to acquire it."
I admitted that was true.
"But the Lee Group's relationship with Maple Media is different," I said. "After all, it's my mother's family business."
Two corporations bound by blood ties naturally placed greater trust in each other.
Quinn chuckled. "Since it's your family's business, why not just go for a high-yield investment instead of a full-on acquisition? Besides, after 'Starry River' became a hit, Maple Media isn't exactly strapped for cash these days, right?"
Quinn's words left me completely dumbfounded.
I got straight to the point and asked Quinn, "What exactly are you trying to say?"
Quinn shook his head and said in a deep voice, "I still can't figure out what York is really after."
I whispered, "Maybe you're overthinking it. He probably just wants to repay the Lee family for adopting him all those years ago."
"Maybe. But your suggestion sounds great." Quinn pulled me into his arms, grinning roguishly. "Once you become CEO, I'll quit my job and be a stay-at-home dad. After working all these years, it's about time I enjoy being spoiled by my wife."
Was Quinn really serious about being a kept man?
"There's no way I could afford to keep you, Mr. Madden. Just one of your suits costs more than my entire month's paycheck," I refused with mock solemnity.
"Actually... clothes are optional," Quinn said as he began unbuttoning his pajamas.
Then he flipped me onto my back, pinning me down. Leaning close to my ear, he whispered, "And I'll earn my keep. I'm very hardworking."
Looking at Quinn's sexy chest, I swallowed hard. Well, there went my early night.
After several rounds, Quinn finally let me sleep.
The next day, with dark circles under my eyes and yawning my head off, I drove to the Smith family's place to pick Shirley and Faye up.
Shirley wore an emerald-green Neglanan-style gown, her blond hair elegantly coiled at the back, exuding a fresh and graceful charm.
Faye, still heavily made-up with her voluminous curls cascading over her shoulders, strutted in on three-inch heels, radiating an air of haughty dominance.
Following Shirley's arrangement, we headed to the largest shopping mall in Enschester.
In the luxury boutique, Faye browsed through the clothing racks, then pointed imperiously at several pieces. "This one, this one, and these. Bring me all of them in size S to try on," she demanded with an air of superiority.
