Jenna was pushed into the operating theater.
When the door closed, Elijah turned around and slapped me hard. He chided, "Natalia, you went too far. If anything happens to Jenna, I won't forgive you for the rest of my life!"
His voice was shaky, and tears welled up in the corners of his eyes. It seemed like he was really anxious.
Elijah had loved Jenna all his life, but because of that, he had also been a good-for-nothing all his life.
No matter what Jenna did, he would side with her unconditionally. This reminded me of Diana and Quinn.
I was envious of Jenna and Diana who were well-protected.
My face was burning with pain. I pursed my lips and said nothing.
I only wanted to vent my anger. I never thought of harming Jenna.
I had mixed feelings after what had happened.
After a while, I said to Elijah in a low voice, "I'll be around. Call me if anything happens."
Not wanting to be an eyesore in front of Elijah, I planned to go to the hospital's rooftop garden to take a breather.
To my annoyance, I bumped into Diana, who was wearing a hospital gown, at the corner.
It had been a long time since we last met. I didn't know that she was still warded.
She was extremely thin, and her face was as pale as paper. She looked at me with her spookily big eyes and smiled sinisterly. She said, "Natalia, karma got you good."
I was stunned for a moment before realizing that she must have seen Elijah hitting me.
"Get out of my way." I wasn't in the mood to argue with her. I wanted to walk around her. Suddenly, Diana grabbed my wrist.
She pulled me to her side and said resentfully, "You're an unwanted burden. You're a curse. You shouldn't live in this world. You should die."
I sneered and retorted, "Too bad for you. I'm not as thick-skinned as you. I wouldn't kill myself just to keep a man."
She frowned. "Even if you die, no one will feel sorry for you."
"Then what are you worried about?" I shook off her hand, smiled a little more brightly, and pressed her. "You've harassed me time and again. What exactly are you worried about?"
I really couldn't understand why Diana still targeted me when Quinn and I were already divorced.
"Natalia? Why are you here?" A familiar voice sounded from behind.
Diana massaged her forehead and looked weak as if she was about to faint.
Quinn quickly went forward to support her. "What's wrong?"
"Quinn, I feel dizzy. I want to go back to the ward and lie down," said Diana meekly as she leaned into Quinn's arms.
"Alright. I'll send you back to your room," Quinn replied. He glanced at me and left with Diana.
I was amused. It was as if everyone who hated me had gathered in this hospital.
I took a deep breath and quickly went to the rooftop garden.
Breathing in the fresh air and looking at the blue sky, I felt tranquility.
However, soon, someone interrupted my moment of peace.
Skylar got a bucket of wastewater from somewhere and splashed it at me from behind. She screamed, "Natalia, you bastard! If anything happens to Jenna, I will definitely kill you with my own hands!"
I felt cold water running down my back. I turned around and saw Skylar with red eyes. She reached out and grabbed my hair.
Her attack caught me by surprise, and I was at a disadvantage. I couldn't break free.
The excruciating pain in my scalp made me scream. Someone around me wanted to help, but Skylar shouted at them, "My parents kindly adopted this woman more than 20 years ago and raised her like one of their own. Not only is she ungrateful, but she also angered my mother to the point of her having a heart attack. My mother is still in the operating theater!"
