York left the room. At the same time, my phone vibrated.
A WhatsApp message popped up on my phone. The sender was York. [Can you come out for a chat?]
He must be crazy to think I would chat with him!
Due to the bug incident, I was still holding a grudge against him. I didn't want to talk to him at all.
Just as I was about to close WhatsApp, York's second message popped up. [Benedict is quite cute.]
When I saw him mention Benedict, my head buzzed as if I had been struck by lightning.
I squeezed my phone and subconsciously shuddered.
"Are you alright?" Jess noticed my reaction and asked me softly.
I instantly switched off my phone. After calming down, I said to him, "Sorry. I have to step outside to return a call."
With that, I got up and quickly left the room.
York was standing outside the room.
I bumped into him when I opened the door. I stepped forward and grabbed his collar. As I gritted my teeth, I interrogated, "What is the meaning of this?"
Seeing that I was enraged, he seemed to be very pleased with himself. His eyes were smiling as he raised his eyebrows and looked at me. "I originally had my suspicions and wanted to verify them scientifically. From the looks of it, I don't think there's a need now."
I grunted, "York!"
He let me grab his collar and suddenly leaned his face close to mine. His voice was hoarse as he asked, "Are you sure you want to talk here?"
There were waiters and other patrons passing by. Some of them were looking at us suspiciously.
I let go of York and glared at him. I asked, "Where is the room you booked?"
Since he chose to talk to me at this time, he must have prepared a room in advance.
York was pleasantly surprised. He exclaimed pretentiously, "Natalia, you're such a smart woman. Why are you always doing stupid things for Quinn?"
I followed him to the room he reserved.
I'd already sorted out my thoughts. I now knew that York knew Benedict's identity and wanted to use this to threaten me.
Not wanting to beat around the bush, I frowned and asked bluntly, "Surely you don't think I have so much authority that I can make the Madden Group give up on bidding? Or maybe you want to see the Madden Group's proposal?"
York must have looked into my background since he wanted to defeat the Madden Group and seize the rights to the Dazzling Project.
I racked my brains to think of a strategy to deal with this. If things really didn't work out, I might as well leave Enschester quietly with Benedict.
"I can help you keep Benedict's identity a secret. I only have one request. Stop contacting Shirley," York said. It was a request that I never expected he would make.
"Why?" I asked, puzzled.
"You don't need to know the reason." He looked at me calmly, but his tone became more sinister. He smiled and said, "If you break our agreement, I will personally tell Quinn that you hid his son away."
I was shivering.
No matter what, I couldn't let anyone take Benedict away.
"It's a deal." I took out my phone and blocked Shirley from my contacts in front of him.
York and I returned to John's room together. Strangely, there was no one in the room. Raelynn, John, and Jess were nowhere to be seen.
I called Raelynn. I heard her ringtone, and I realized she'd left her bag on the seat.
Could she have gone to the washroom?
However, there was no need for the three of them to go together.
"Mr. Smith and Ms. Hinton, you're back." Jess called us from behind. After entering the room, he asked curiously, "Where did Mr. Powell and Miss Novak go?"
