"Will you two be okay alone?" Elijah asked worriedly while furtively glancing at me.
Jenna smiled at him and said, "I've calmed down. Don't worry. I'm not planning to fight with Natalia."
"Alright. I'll stand guard outside the room. Call me if you need anything." Elijah closed the door and left.
Only Jenna and I were left in the room. I stood stiffly where I was. It had been a long time since I'd been alone with Jenna.
I had no idea what she wanted to say to me. My instinctive reaction was to frown and resist whatever she asked of me.
Jenna asked me to sit down and said calmly, "I've been lying idly in bed for the past few days. I kept recalling things in the past. I recalled the first time I saw you in the orphanage. You were only three years old. Your eyes were very similar to that of Skylar. You were so innocent and cute. After I brought you home, I would think of Skylar every time I heard you call me 'Mom'. At that time, I always told myself that Skylar was not lost. You were Skylar."

Jenna sighed and looked me in the eye. She confessed, "After Skylar came back, I also thought about treating both of you equally. She didn't get to dress up nicely and didn't even travel abroad. Things that you've been taking for granted, Skylar was denied.
"That's not fair. Skylar is my precious baby, and you're just a child from the orphanage. Why are you living better than Skylar? The more outstanding you are, the more I feel sorry for Skylar."

I chuckled and retorted, "And then what? You raised Skylar well. Are you satisfied with the outcome now?"
Jenna knew very well how Skylar had turned out after being pampered by her for the past two years. Jenna knew the trouble Skylar had caused.
Jenna's eyes were filled with resentment. She pursed her lips and remained silent.
I said indifferently, "Did you call me here today just to tell me this?"
This was not Jenna's style. My intuition told me that she must have other motives for agreeing to my request of severing ties with the Hinton family.
Jenna said, "Promise me that if anything happens to Skylar in the future, you will do your best to save her. I know you hate me, but I've raised you for more than 20 years. This is my last request."
