I was stunned. Combined with Elijah's worried reaction just now, I guessed that Jenna's heart condition had most likely worsened.
She didn't know how much longer she could live, and she didn't trust Elijah, so she wanted me to shoulder this burden.
"Aren't you overestimating me? I have no time to take care of myself. How can I protect your precious Skylar?" I mocked.
Jenna smiled when she heard that. She said, "You went to the Madden family alone and got Quinn to agree to marry you. Since then, I knew that you were extraordinary. After all, I raised you. What do you say? If you agree to my request, I'll give you the legal documents you need."
I didn't want to continue talking nonsense with her, so I nodded in agreement.
Jenna called Elijah in and instructed him to call Lucia and ask her to send the legal documents over.
While I was waiting, I went to the washroom and called Rose. I told her the good news. I said, "Rose, you previously said that you know someone that can help me get Benedict's custody. Can you introduce me to that person?"
"No problem," Rose agreed readily. "I'll contact the person now."
After hanging up the phone, I wandered around the garden for a while. Looking at the blue sky and white clouds above my head, I was in a good mood. I had finally settled one of my worries.
Estimating that Lucia should be arriving soon, I took the elevator upstairs.
A group of medical staff brushed past me and hurriedly pushed someone into the operating theater.
It happened so fast I didn't get a good look at the face of the patient on the bed.
The next second, Skylar and Elijah ran out of the ward crying.
My heart skipped a beat. I hurried forward and asked them, "What happened?"
"Not long after you left, Jenna said that she was dizzy and started vomiting. I felt that something was off. When I called the doctor over, she had lost consciousness." Elijah was extremely anxious. After saying that, he ran toward the operating theater.
Why did Jenna lose consciousness out of the blue? What Elijah described didn't sound like the symptoms of a heart attack.
Skylar stood rooted to the ground and glared at me. She looked like she wanted to skin me alive.
I didn't want to talk to her. After some thought, I decided to follow Elijah to the operating theater to check on the situation.
Skylar grabbed my arm and said with a dark expression, "Natalia, you want Mom to die, right?"
"What did you say?" I frowned and shook her off coldly.
Skylar looked straight at me and said, "If Mom dies, then you are the murderer."
With that, she quickly headed toward the operating theater.
An hour later, a doctor came out and informed Elijah with a solemn expression, "We discovered a large amount of psychiatric drugs in the patient's blood. The hospital has called the police."
"Psychiatric drugs?" Elijah widened his eyes and muttered, "How is this possible? Where did the hospital get these drugs?"
Skylar pointed at me and shouted, "Natalia, it's you! You must have injected Mom with the psychiatric drugs. You were alone with Mom for so long just now. You were holding a grudge, so you did this to Mom!"
"Skylar, stop running your mouth without thinking," I retorted immediately.
A few police officers arrived at the hospital. Skylar cried and continued to accuse me of drugging Jenna.
When the police officers heard this, they frowned and asked me to follow them to the police station. An officer said, "Ms. Hinton, please cooperate with us."
I became the prime suspect all of a sudden.
When one of the officers saw me not responding to them, he tried to forcefully grab my arm.
At the same time, a man pulled me into his embrace.
I looked up and met Quinn's deep eyes.
