A woman was sitting beside Quinn. Her back was to me, but I could see her holding his hand in both of hers, pressing it against her cheek like she was having some emotional moment. She seemed to be murmuring something.
Unfortunately, I was too far away to hear.
I pushed the door open and stepped inside. The woman turned, and my stomach dropped. Diana. My mood instantly soured.
I crossed my arms, glaring at her. Something about her being here didn't sit right with me. Could she have had something to do with the attack? The thought hit me hard, and I couldn't shake it.
"Natalia," Diana snapped, frowning like she was the victim here. "This is all your fault. Look at what you've done to Quinn. Are you happy now?"
Her nerve was unbelievable. Memories of everything she'd put me through flashed in my mind. Without thinking, I stormed over and slapped her. Hard.
The sound echoed in the room. Diana froze, completely stunned, her hand moving to her cheek as she stared at me in shock. "Natalia, are you crazy?" she shrieked.
I scoffed. "You know, I used to think staying calm meant letting things slide—even after getting attacked by a snake. But now I get it. If I can't strike back, I can at least teach it a lesson."
"Who are you calling a snake?" Diana snapped, her face turning beet red.
I smirked, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Whoever is hissing."
Her mouth opened, then closed. She was furious, and it showed. Before I could blink, she lunged at me, trying to grab my arm.
I caught her wrist easily and held it tight. My tone dropped to something colder. "Diana, just answer me. Did you send someone to do that today?"
She blinked, clearly thrown off. "What the hell are you talking about?"
I studied her face closely. She looked genuinely confused, but I wasn't about to let up.
"Then why are you here?" I asked, squeezing her wrist just enough to make her squirm.
Her confidence faltered, and her eyes darted around the room. "Why does it matter? Natalia, I've told you before, stay away from Quinn—"
"Did you do it?" A cold, sharp voice came suddenly from behind us.
Both of us turned to see Quinn awake, his eyes locked on Diana like a predator sizing up prey.
I let go of her wrist. Diana spun around and practically threw herself at him. "Quinn! How could you even think that? I'd never do anything to hurt you! I don't know what happened. Why are you even in the hospital?"
Her voice had gone soft, sugary sweet, playing the victim like she always did.
I leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching the scene like it was some drama on TV. I fully expected Quinn to fall for her act, same as always.
But this time, he didn't. He frowned, pushed her away, and his voice was icy as he said, "I'll ask one more time. Did you do it?"
"Why did you come to the hospital?" Quinn repeated my question, his tone sharper this time.
Diana hesitated, her expression flickering between guilt and defiance. She pressed her lips together, refusing to answer.
Quinn exhaled deeply, his gaze sharp as he stared her down. "Diana, I've always looked out for you because of your mother. I treated you like family, like a sister. I wanted to protect you. But this... this time, you crossed the line."
Her eyes widened, and then she snapped. Pointing at me, her voice cracked with anger. "Your line is her?!"
She was trembling now, her words tumbling out. "We met first, Quinn! If it wasn't for her, we would've been together! You would've married me, and we would've been happy! She ruined everything! Didn't she?!"
Quinn didn't flinch. His expression stayed calm, his voice steady but firm. "No," he said simply. "I never planned on marrying you."
