Blair’s POV
I adjusted my sunglasses as I walked into my mom's modeling agency, my heels clicked against the marble floor with each confident step. I knew everyone was watching; well, that's all they could do, admire from afar. The receptionist smiled nervously as I gave her a curt nod, I didn't bother to return the smile. She doesn't deserve it. I was bored, but there was nothing I could do; today was just another day in my life where I had to be the center of attention, the one who always had everything under control, the perfect beauty queen.
However, this time was different; that control was slowly slipping, and it was all thanks to Raven. I feel like I've been on edge lately, I'm always on edge when it involves that annoying girl. She always knows how to annoy me. I pushed those thoughts aside and headed toward the studio for my photo shoot. I can't afford to mess up today, or else my mom would get mad. I needed to maintain the image she's worked so hard to create.
After the photo shoot, I finally had time to take a break. I decided to check up on my mom. I needed to know if her plans for Margaret’s birthday party were still in check. I can't afford to lose the opportunity to turn things in my favor. I need to be sure that everything will go smoothly; after all, I'm Mason's rightful bride.
As I approached my mom's office, I heard voices. My hand paused on the door handle as I recognized the voice to be that of Mr Clinton. I frowned, wondering what he was doing here. The last thing I want is for my mom to know I've been sleeping with him. I'm sure he's heard that Raven is now married into the Barrett family, so what else does he want? I stay outside my mom's office, listening to their conversation.
"I don't care what your excuses are, Lenora," Mr Clinton’s voice was cold and demanding. "We had an agreement, you promised me one of your daughters. I always wanted Blair, but you pushed Raven at me instead. And now that Raven’s married into the Barrett family, I want what was originally mine."
My heart skipped a beat the moment I heard him say that. So he never wanted to marry Raven? The thought of marrying him disgusted me. The man was old enough to be my father. I only agreed to be his side chick because he spends all his money on me. I never planned to spend the rest of my life with an old man, no matter how much money he had.
I peeked through the small opening in the door, and I saw my mom pacing, her face masked with desperation. "Please, Mr Clinton, be patient," my mom pleaded. "I have a plan which I'm already working on, and soon Mason will have no choice but to divorce Raven. Once that happens, you can have Raven, and do whatever you want with her. But please don't make a scene."
My eyes widened in shock. My mom was pleading, Lenora Prescott, the woman who always had everything under control, who feared nothing and no one, was practically begging Mr Clinton. If this wasn't about me, I'd be extremely happy to see her like this.
"I've kept your secret for so long, Lenora, and I don't know how long I can remain silent." Mr Clinton whispered harshly. "You have one week Lenora, and if your plan doesn’t work, I’ll be back. And this time, I’ll take Blair as my wife. Think about it, she'd be better off with me."
I felt rage slowly consume me. How dare he say such rubbish? And how could my mother let this happen? Without thinking, I barged into the office, my face flushed with anger.
"What the hell is going on here?" I demanded, glaring at both of them. "And what makes you think I'll ever marry a disgusting old man like you? Just thinking about it makes me sick."
Mr Clinton stood up, his face twisted with fury as he moved towards me. Something about him scared me at that moment, I had never seen this side of him before. I thought he was just a foolish old man who enjoyed spending his money on young girls.
"You don't get to decide that, Blair," he hissed, his voice low and menacing. "You didn't seem to care if I was old when bouncing on my cock like a little slut, or when you were busy spending all my money. But now that the time has come to legally accept to be mine, you remember that I’m old?"
A cold shiver ran down my spine as he reached out and ran his wrinkled fingers through my hair. "You're lucky you’re pretty," he sneered, "or I'd make you pay for what you just said."
My mom quickly stepped between us before I could say anything. "Mr Clinton, please forgive her. She’s young and she tends to speak out of term most times."
I stared at my mom in disbelief. Was she being serious right now? "Why are you pleading with him, mom?" I snapped, my voice shaking with a mixture of anger and confusion. "You're supposed to defend me."
My mom turned to face me, her eyes filled with frustration. "Shut up, Blair." She snapped, her voice hardening. "Why are you even here? Shouldn't you be at a photo shoot or something?"
