As Candice watched the chaos unfold, she suddenly saw the opportunity she had been waiting for. She smiled to herself, moving towards the fighting women, pretending to act as a peacemaker.
"Stop it, both of you!" Candice cried, trying to pull them apart. But in the struggle, one of them shoved Candice aside. She fell to the floor, gasping, clutching her stomach dramatically.
Within moments, store employees rushed over, trying to separate Mia and Blair. When their attempts failed, security was called, and soon after, the police arrived, arresting both of them. As they were led out in handcuffs, Candice lay on the floor, pretending to be unconscious.
Paramedics arrived and rushed her to the hospital.
Back at the office, Mason was reviewing some documents when his phone buzzed. It was a call from the hospital. He frowned as he answered, and his face paled as he heard the nurse's words.
"Mr. Barrett, Candice has been rushed to the hospital. She was injured during a fight at the mall."
Mason's heart sank. He threw everything aside and bolted out of the office, rushing to the hospital as fast as he could.
When he arrived, he found Candice lying in a hospital bed, tears streaming down her face. A doctor approached, and Mason quickly asked, "What happened? Is she okay? What about the baby?"
The doctor sighed. "She was knocked down during an altercation at the mall. I’m afraid... she’s had a miscarriage."
Mason's chest tightened with guilt. He didn’t take proper care of her and now she's lost the baby. He wasn’t sure what to feel, relief that there was nothing more between them, or sadness for losing his child and for Candice's distress.
Later that evening, Mason returned home with Candice. She sat in bed, wearing his favorite shirt, surrounded by tissues, her face pale and worn from crying. She barely spoke and refused to eat anything.
That night, she appeared at his bedroom door, her voice trembling. "Mason... Can I sleep here? I’m scared... I don't want to be alone."
Mason sighed, he couldn’t turn her down. Not in this state. "Fine."
That night, Justin learned about Blair’s arrest and went straight to the police station. He couldn’t believe that Mia had been involved in the fight. When he saw her, she was in tears.
"Mia? How did this happen?" He asked her.
"We were at the mall, and she started talking about you. I didn't like the things she said, and I couldn’t watch her try to manipulate you. So I spoke up and she attacked me." Mia explained, sobbing. "I know she's wealthy and I don't stand a chance, but that doesn't mean she has to keep bullying me."
Justin was furious with Blair. He had always known Mia to be a sweet girl who was always trying to stay out of trouble. But Blair always thought she was better than everyone.
After bailing Mia out, Justin went over to Blair’s cell and scolded her. "How could you treat Mia this way? You always treat people like they're beneath you, Blair. You know what, this is your mess, and I’m not bailing you out. Call your mom to come get you, and I don't want you anywhere around my house. Go back home."
"You can't be serious, Justin. Are you choosing her over me? This trash?"
"One more word, and I'll make sure you rot in here." With that, he left with Mia, leaving Blair in her cell.
Mia smiled secretly as they left.
Lenora’s fingers tightened around the phone as she listened to the police officer explain the situation. Her daughter, Blair, was sitting in a jail cell because of a Mall brawl, fighting over a man. The news was all over the Internet. She sighed, rubbing her temples. She's been worried about Blair ever since she got discharged from the hospital and didn't come home. And that daughter of hers was bust fighting over a man? This was the last thing Lenora needed to hear, especially with everything that was going on in her life right now.
"Mrs. Prescott?" The officer’s voice sounded on the other end.
"Yes, I’m still here," Lenora responded, her voice laced with frustration. "I'll come down tomorrow morning."
"Tomorrow?" The officer asked, confused.
"Yes, tomorrow. Let her sit in there overnight. Maybe some time in a cell will help her grow up." Lenora said firmly before hanging up the call.
She tossed her phone onto the table and poured herself a glass of wine. She couldn’t deal with this right now. On one hand, she has Mr Clinton threatening to reveal her secrets to the police, and then, there's her ungrateful daughter, currently sitting in jail.
The Next Morning,
Lenora arrived at the police station, sunglasses shielding her tired eyes. She walked in with her head held high. The officers at the front desk greeted her politely, guiding her to where Blair was being held.
She spotted Blair sitting on a bench, looking disheveled and utterly humiliated. Her hair was a tangled mess, mascara smeared around her eyes, and she clutched her arms around herself tightly.
The officer opened the gate and Blair rushed out.
"Mom!" Blair’s voice echoed as she stood there eyes wide with desperation. "You left me here all night!"
Lenora removed her sunglasses, meeting Blair’s gaze with a cold glare. "Yes, I did. And maybe now you’ll think twice before embarrassing our family like this again."
"What kind of mother leaves her daughter in a jail cell? You're so heartless!"
Lenora landed a deafening slap on Blair’s face. "Don't you dare raise your voice at me? I didn't raise you to go around fighting over a man. If he's worth fighting for, then why didn't he come to bail you out?"
Blair flinched at her mother’s words. "Justin cares about me." She whispered.
"I expect you to go home and fix yourself up. Don’t embarrass me further, Blair. Or you won't like the consequences.”
