Killian’s POV
I wake up and Tara is still snuggled up to me sleeping peacefully. I kiss the back of her head and breathe in her scent as I lay there for a few minutes momentarily putting off the inevitable. I have to leave her here today because today is the day I will issue my challenge to Arthur Godfrey for his title as Alpha. I slowly remove my arm from her waist and quietly get out of bed to make my way to the bathroom. I quickly shower, brush my teeth, comb my beard, and slick my hair back before heading to the closet to get dressed. After I get dressed, I sit down on the couch to put my shoes on and I hear my love start to stir. I watch as she stretches and I can see her curves through the sheet covering her body. She groans as she relaxes her body and props herself up on her elbows. She tilts her head and sits up completely when she realizes I’m dressed and putting my shoes on.
“Where are you going, Killian?” she says sounding both hurt and confused. It makes my heart ache to hear the hurt. I walk over and grab her hands as I sit on the bed. I place a kiss on each hand before answering just so she’ll smile.
“I’m going to Flaming Fangs to challenge Arthur for his title and pack. I think it’s best you stay here and focus on rebuilding instead of facing him.” I say honestly.
“Thank you. I’m not ready to face him again. But what will I do all day without you?” she says as she leans back still holding my hands and my heart skips. She’s going to miss me.
“It will only be a few hours and my sisters will be with you the whole time. I have also asked Ian to stay with you as well.” I replied pulling her back up and into a hug. She nods and wraps her arms around my midsection. I lay my head on top of hers and rub her back while she hugs me soaking up her touch.
“I love you, Tara. I’m doing this because he should pay for what he did to you. They all should.” I whisper to her. She lets out a sigh and nods.
“I know they should. I love you too, Killian.” What did she just say?! I jerk my head up and look down at her and she laughs.
“Yea… I love you too. I’m just scared right now.” she says and I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face. I think my heart may beat out of my chest.
I capture her lips in a hungry but gentle and passionate kiss. I’m completely immersed in tasting her lips and feeling her hands on my skin. I don’t know how much time passes but all too soon there is a loud knock on the door. I break away from Tara and reluctantly go to the door to find Nicole waiting on the other side.
“The car is ready. Are you, Alpha?” he says to me and I nod as I let out a sigh. I look over at Tara who is looking down at her hands and I feel a slight ache in my chest.
“I have to go baby but I promise when I get back, we will spend some time together. Okay? Just me and you.” I say lifting her chin up so her eyes meet mine. She gives me a small smile, a chaste kiss, and nods.
I walk out the door and close it behind me gently. I’m determined to get the challenge issued and come straight home to her. Nicole displays the same determination in his walk. Neither of us want to go back to that wretched pack but we know that we must go back and handle what Arthur has done.
Tara’ POV
As soon as Killian closed the bedroom door, I was overcome with an overwhelming sadness. My chest aches and the tears won’t stop. I walk to the bed and pick up my new phone to text Serenity and Deidre. Before I can get a message open, there’s another knock at the door. I walk to the door and there stood my new sisters.
“Hey honey. Killian said he could feel your sadness and sent us straight up here. Come here.” Deidre says as she pulls me in for a hug. With that hug, the floodgates open. Suddenly I’m engulfed in a group hug with Serenity and Deidre.
After a few minutes my sobs are reduced to hiccups and they lead me to the couch. I look at the clock and it’s only been 15 minutes since Killian left. This is going to be the longest day of my life.
“What would you like to do today?” Serenity starts.
“We can show you around the pack. The training facility, schools, clinic, parks, and so on. We can stay here and watch movies while we order room service for snacks. Or we can shift and go for a run?” she says listing off her ideas to keep me distracted.
“Our first shift must be with Killian during the full moon.” Lola says in the back of my mind.
“Lola says I can’t shift unless it’s with Killian during the full moon so maybe we could just tour the pack grounds?” I respond and the girls look at me confused.
“Is Lola your wolf?” Deidre asks and I simply nod.
“Why can’t you shift until the full moon?” Serenity asks and I shrug.
“Well the full moon is just 4 sleeps and a wake up away.” Deidre says and now I’m the one confused. She must see it on my face because she chuckles to herself before explaining.
“4 sleeps and a wake up means we will lay down to go to sleep 4 more times and then wake up the day the full moon is set to happen, silly. It’s Monday and the next full moon is Friday.” she explains and I make a silent O shape with my mouth and nod.
“Tara, we must also be mated and marked during the full moon. I cannot tell you why but I need you to trust me and to trust Killian and Remus as well.” Lola says making my eyes go wide.
“What was that? What’s wrong?” Serenity says with concern.
“Oh. It’s nothing. I was just listening to Lola talk to me about shifting.” I lie so they don’t ask questions I don’t know the answer to.
“Oh. Yeah, the first time is kind of scary but you’ll be fine. I promise.” she says with a smile and I nod at her.
“Okay girls! Let’s take that tour now.” I exclaim hoping my eagerness to know my new pack will take away the attention of my wolf speaking to me. I open the bedroom door and there stands Ian.
“Luna. Deidre. Serenity. Alpha Killian has asked that I stay with Luna Tara today in his absence.” Ian says.
“Please just call me Tara. I’m still not used to everyone calling me Luna.” I plead with him and he simply shakes his head no.
“I mean no disrespect, Luna, but it would be very disrespectful and out of line for an Omega such as myself to call you by your name. Even if I am a high level Omega.” he says and I turn to Deidre and Serenity to see them both nodding in agreement.
“Oh.. Okay. I don’t want to cause any trouble. I guess this means you’ll be coming with us to tour the pack grounds then?” I say in response and he nods his head.
“Well then let’s get this show on the road.” I say with a smile and we all head out to tour my new pack.
It took three and a half hours to completely tour the pack grounds. When we got back to the packhouse, we asked Freya to bring an assortment of snacks and drinks to the Alpha’s suite so we could binge watch a show called New Girl until Killian got home. When I walked into the bedroom I could hear a buzzing sound.
“That’s your phone, Tara. It’s probably Killian.” Deidre says and I immediately know she’s right because nobody else has the number except them. I rush to my phone and gasp. The girls rush to my side and giggle when they see what I gasped at.
“He’s tried to call you 15 times and texted you 25 times in three and a half hours. You might wanna call him back.” Deidre says gently but before I can my phone is buzzing again and this time I answer it.
“Hello?”
“Tara?!”
“Hey Killian.. I’m sorry. I forgot to take my phone.”
“Take your phone? Where did you go?”
“Oh.. I went on a tour of the pack grounds. Serenity and Deidre showed me the school, training facility, and just all around.”
“Where was Ian?”
“Ian? He’s right outside the door now. He was with us the whole time.”
“I called him and my sisters and nobody answered. I was so worried something had happened.”
“Oh no. I’m sorry. I’m perfectly fine. How did everything go?”
“As expected. He’s angry and spouting off at the mouth but 7 days from now I will fight him and he will lose his title.”
I gasp again suddenly remembering what Lola had said about being mated and marked.
“What’s wrong? Baby? Tara?” Killian says with a panic in his voice.
“Oh nothing is wrong. Just surprised it is so soon.” I lie through my teeth.
“I’ll be home in about 25 minutes. Still down for some alone time?” he asks with a hint of hope in his voice.
“Yeah, I could use some one on one time with you. I have missed you today.” I say with a smile. I suppose if I need to be mated and marked, I need to get myself comfortable with him enough for that.
“I missed you too. I’ll see you soon. I love you, Tara.”
“I love you too, Killian.” I say and he grunts.
“I’ll get you for that.” he says with a smile on his face and I roll my eyes.
“We’ll see. See you soon.” I say and hang up the phone.
“Well that was gross.” Serenity says and I jump because I forgot they were here. They laugh and stand up from the couch.
“Since you and our brother will be needing some alone time, I think we’re gonna get out of here before he gets here.” Deidre teases and I roll my eyes again. I walk them to the door, hug them both goodbye, and close the door behind them.
This time I walk past the couch and straight to the bed. I open my phone and see a couple selfies of Killian that he sent me while he was gone. He also sent me some pictures of the mountains and sky that he thought were pretty. His texts said that the scenery was so beautiful it reminded him of me. Suddenly the bedroom door bursts open and there is my gorgeous man with a tray full of snacks and drinks.
“I ran into Freya and thought I’d deliver these myself.” he says with a smile as he puts them down on the table. Before I can respond he charges for the bed and lands on top of me on his hands and knees.
“Killian, huh?” he says with a hint of mischief to his voice. I laugh out loud and nod in response.
“Whatcha gonna do about it, FINLEY?” I say with extra emphasis on his name and he gives me a playful glare.
“This.” and suddenly he’s tickling my sides while his face is buried in my neck so his beard can tickle my neck. I squeal and squirm trying to get away to no avail.
“Okay! You win! I’m sorry, Killian.” I yell out while laughing and he stops. He’s still laughing when he lifts his head up to look at me. Those blue eyes are just so breathtaking and I feel my core heating up.
“I love you, Tara.” he says as he kisses my nose.
“I love you too, Killian.” I respond. As we lay there and snuggle, I can’t help but wonder why it’s so important for me to shift, mate, and mark during the full moon. Lola was certainly no help but I guess I’ll find out this Friday.
