                    Tara’ POV
“I’m sorry… You said she has what?” I respond incredulously to Killian. Surely I didn’t hear him right.
“Wings, Tara. She has wings. She’s breathtakingly beautiful though.” he says.
“HOW can you be so calm when you say that?! WOLVES DO NOT HAVE WINGS!” I yell at him through our mindlink. How many winged wolves has he seen that he is completely unphased by this?!
“Well honey, your wolf does have wings and she’s also my mate so there’s no real need to panic. Let’s go for a run and when we get home we will do some research. Ok?” he says trying to calm me down some.
“Okay.” I say. I watch as Lola and Remus frolicking through the woods and chasing each other. They are so carefree and I envy them as I struggle with the fact my wolf is “unique”.
Lola and Remus come upon a clearing and it is gorgeous. There’s a lake against a ridge with a small waterfall cascading down into it. The moonlight bouncing off the water makes the scenery in front of us look like a painting.
“Would you like to see what we look like, Tara?” Lola asks trying to pull me out of the funk I’m in.
“Yes, I would.” I respond quietly and I watch as Lola walks over to a boulder near the lake and jumps on top of it. She looks down into the water so I can see our reflection and spreads her wings for me to see. I gasp at the sight. She truly is beautiful. Her white fur is thick and silky in appearance. Her eyes are gold with green and blue flecks dancing in them but the most unique part of her are her wings. They are nothing short of majestic. White as snow with silver flakes reflecting the glow of the moon and as large as the wings of a Pegasus. The regalness
“What do you think?” she asks. I’m shell shocked looking at the reflection in front of me. In absolute awe of how gorgeous and unique my wolf counterpart is.
“Beautiful.” I say genuinely and she smiles as she jumps down off the boulder. She saunters over to where Remus is laying by the water and lays down next to him. It’s so different watching things through Lola’s eyes.
“Tara, do you mind if I have some alone time with Remus? I’d like to mate with my mate.” Lola says pulling me out of my trance. I nearly puke at the thought of me being present for them mating.
“By all means, have your time. How do I avoid witnessing and experiencing this?” I ask urgently. Suddenly there is a block up and I can no longer see through Lola’s eyes or hear her speak to me. Thank Goddess.
In my alone time I am left wondering why it was so urgent that Killian and I be mated and marked tonight as well as my first shift be tonight. Sure, I have a winged wolf and she’s white which is additionally unique since wolves are usually dark in color to camouflage with their surroundings. After what feels like hours, the block is gone and I can see Lola and Remus walking back to the packhouse.
“Did ya have fun?” I ask Lola sarcastically and I hear her laugh in my head.
“So much. Thank you for that. Everything is as it should be. Our Luna ceremony will be flawless.” she responds. More vague information. I just sigh and watch the scenery pass by.
When we finally reach the tree line before the packhouse, Lola gives me control and I shift back. I quickly put my clothes on and wait for Killian. He exits the trees and walks over to me.
“Hey, it’s ok. You don’t need to be stressed or worried about it. Everything is fine.” he says gently as he pulls me into his arms. I just rest my head on his chest with my arms around him. We slowly walk back to the packhouse and up to our bedroom to sleep for the night. Tomorrow is the big day and I don’t even want to go through with it now.
Killian’s POV
A white wolf wasn’t what I expected but a white wolf with WINGS wasn’t something I could have even imagined. Man, is she gorgeous though. She is so beautiful in her human form it only makes sense that her wolf counterpart would be equally as beautiful. The unique characteristics of her wolf have Tara very anxious and upset. I can’t say I understand why it bothers her so much but I also can’t say that I don’t understand why it does either. We lay down in the bed and I hear quiet sniffles coming from Tara. I pull her close to me and run my fingers through her curls until her sniffles go quiet. Once I’m sure she is asleep, I crawl out of bed and make my way down to my office. I pull up the internet and do a quick search for “white wolf with wings” to see if there was any information I could give her in the morning to ease the weight of her unique wolf.
“What are you doing up?” I hear Nicole say from the doorway. I motion for him to come inside and close the door. My office is soundproof so nothing said inside of it can be heard if the door is closed.
“I’m doing some research. Something… happened tonight.” I say delicately so as not to worry him.
“Ok. What happened? How can I help?” he asks in return. I rub the back of my neck and let out a breath. Tara is my mate and the pack’s Luna and Nicole is my Beta. This is a hard position to be in but I need his help and I trust him.
“I’m saying this as your Alpha, what is said and talked about in this room does not leave this office. Do you understand me?” I say in a calm Alpha tone. Nicole nods his head with a look of concern in his eyes.
“Tara shifted for the first time tonight.” I start slowly and he nods knowing full well that I’m not done.
“And her wolf is.. um.. unique.” I continue and I see one of his eyebrows raise up.
“With all due respect, Alpha. Spit it out. How is her wolf unique? I can’t help if you keep beating around the bush.” he says very matter of factly. He’s lucky he is my cousin and my Beta otherwise I would probably lose my cool.
“For starters her wolf is white with a black spot over her heart.” I say and both of his eyebrows shoot up in shock.
“And did I mention she has wings?” I say cautiously and he just stares at me blinking a bit more than normal.
“I know I heard white wolf and that’s rare but did I hear you say her wolf has WINGS?” he says incredulously. I nod and he throws himself back into the chair.
“Are you okay with that? Can you accept her being Luna with a unique wolf?” I ask him hesitantly with worry evident in my voice.
“Why? Are you going to reject your mate based on my opinion?” Nicole asks and I can here the disbelief in his voice.
“No, I would relieve you of your Beta responsibilities though.” I say honestly. He smiles and nods as he pulls out his phone.
“Good for both of us that I don’t care how ‘unique’ her wolf is then. Now give me some criteria or ideas for searches. I’ll run down to the library and grab some books.” he says opening the notes app on his phone.
“We should be looking into myths, legends, and prophecies surrounding a white wolf, winged wolf, AND a winged white wolf.” I tell him.
“I searched the internet for a white wolf with wings and the first thing that pops up says ‘Supernatural Savior’. It talks how a light winged wolf will fight a dark winged wolf to save the entire supernatural world.” I tell Nicole and I see the wheels turning in his head as he hits down everything I’m saying in his phone. He looks up from his phone with a look of determination and worry.
“See if you can find anything more on that and we will get together about this Monday after the Luna ceremony and Alpha challenge.” I tell him and he nods. He shakes my hand and pulls me into a hug.
“We’ll figure this out, bro. No matter what she’s your mate and the pack’s Luna. Don’t stress it.” he says. I give him a small smile and nod before he leaves for the library. I head back up to the bedroom to find Tara still curled up sound asleep. I go to the bathroom and take a shower to relax myself before heading into the bed with her. I don’t know how much time passes but the hot water turns cold so I turn the water off and get out to dry myself off. I walk out to the bed and climb in behind Tara. I pull her close to me and kiss the top of her head.
“We’ll figure this out, Tara. I promise.” I whisper to her before darkness takes over and I finally fall asleep.
