Atlas’ POV
The White Winged Wolf… She’s alive and of age. She’s mated and marked. The prophecy is unfolding perfectly. I had no idea when I went to do recon for Arthur Godfrey’s request that I would come upon her. I could have killed them without warning since they came out alone but when I saw her shift, I couldn’t do it. The only way to have a pure werewolf race without other supernaturals is to fight this war and kill her.
“What’s on your mind, love?” my mate and Luna says bringing me out of my train of thought.
“Nothing, dear. Just daydreaming.” I respond. She has no idea of the prophecy or my side business as a contract killer. I’d like to keep it that way.
“I’m going to take some time to myself in my study. I’ll be down for dinner, okay?” I say standing as I kiss her forehead and she nods.
I make my way into the study and lock the door behind me before pulling a very old book off the shelf. It is covered in dust that disperses as I drop it on my desk. I flip through until I find the prophecy and a grin creeps up on my face.
“Enjoy this life while you have it, white wolf. I’m going to take everything you love and then kill you, if it’s the last thing I do.” I say to myself as I stare at the book. Soon enough, there will be no more hybrids or other supernaturals. Pure blooded werewolves are all that will exist and we will take over the human race to control the Earth as well. That sounds perfect to me.
Killian’s POV
I laid in bed awake all night holding Tara. She cried herself to sleep in my arms and even in her sleep, I could see the stress on her face. Sunlight spilled in through the openings of the curtains painting the room in stripes of orange and yellow glows. I picked my phone up to check the time and saw it was 6:45am. I decided to stay with my mate until 8am but after that I would be calling a meeting with the ranked members and the Committee of Elders. I put my phone back on the nightstand before laying my head back and letting out a sigh. I closed my eyes and the next thing I knew Tara was gone from the bed and my phone read 4:52pm. I heard the shower stop and a few moments later the bathroom door creaked open. I watched my naked mate try to tiptoe to the closet for clothes. She was trying to be quiet so I could sleep and I could feel my heart swell.
“Hey there, beautiful.” I said and she let out a scream as she jumped. I couldn’t help but laugh at her.
“Goddess Killian, you scared me to death. I thought you were still sleeping!” she yelled at me.
“What time did you finally get to sleep?” she asked with genuine concern and worry laced in her voice.
“Around 6:45 this morning. I was going to stay with you until 8:00 then go call a meeting with everyone but I closed my eyes for a second and now it’s almost 5:00pm.” I replied flopping my hands down on the bed.
Tara didn’t say anything else. She had gotten her tank top and short pajamas on while listening to me so she crawled back into the bed with me. She laid her head on my chest and it wasn’t long before I heard the quiet snores of her sleeping. I gently laid her on my pillow before removing myself from the bed.
“Hey Nicole?” I opened a mindlink with my Beta.
“What’s up, boss?”
“I don’t know if I need my best friend or my Beta but I need you to meet me in my office. Bring Jude as well.”
“Is everything ok, Killian?”
“No. Nothing is ok. I’ll see you in a few.”
I cut off the connection and threw a pair of clean shorts and a t-shirt on before making my way down the hall to my office. After about 15 minutes, Nicole and Jude walked in. Nicole closed and locked the door behind him and Jude just looked between us confused as ever.
“We should probably fill you in.” I said to Jude and he nodded. Nicole and I spent the good part of 20 minutes telling him everything.
“Holy shit.. that’s a lot to take in.” Jude said sounding fearfully astonished.
“I wish that was the end but now I need to fill you both in on a recent development.” I said and they both looked at me quizzically. I let out a deep breath before continuing my story.
“Last night after the party, Tara and I decided to let our wolves out. Lola wasn’t out 30 seconds before she said someone was watching her. Sure enough a man came out of the trees and spoke to us. Guys… he is the dark winged wolf. He shifted after he threatened us. He also told us that Arthur had hired him to kill us but this war is more important.” and as I finished my story I sat 3 glasses on my desk and poured whiskey in all three.
“Dammit man.” Jude said first followed by a giant gulp of whiskey. Nicole drank his entire glass and sat in silence for a few minutes before looking me in my eyes.
“How do we keep her safe?” he said with finality. He was such a great Beta and even better friend. He’d do anything to protect my Luna and I.
“We need to do more research into this prophecy than we did before and tomorrow we need the entire Committee of Elders here. We have to get ahead of this.”
“Yes, Alpha. Should we head to the library?” Jude asks. Before I can answer, I hear a soft voice from the doorway.
“Can I come? I’d like to help.” Tara says barely above a whisper. I wave her to me and she comes to my lap.
“Would you like to see what we have already, Tara? This is about you and your wolf after all.” I ask gently and she nods. I nod to Nicole and he fills her in on everything we have so far. She continues reading the book Nicole was using as he, Jude, and myself begin talking amongst ourselves the suddenly she has an outburst with rage and fear laced in her voice.
“Oh my Goddess…”
“What is it, baby? What’s wrong?”
“Did you read this?! All of this?! That wolf is prophesied to want to eliminate all other supernatural forms and all hybrid wolves. He wants a supernatural world of nothing but pure blooded werewolves.”
“What? How did we miss that?”
Nicole grabs the book and starts reading further and his mouth is agape.
“What Nicole? What is it?! Give me that book!”
“Right now he’s probably reading the part where he cannot have that world so long as I exist. Whatever magic the Moon Goddess imparted on me is strong enough to kill him but his dark magic is from Lucifer and strong enough to kill me as well.”
“Nobody is killing you.” I say with a growl erupting from my chest and she jumps. Nicole and Jude look up at me and look to Tara before going back to their research.
“Killian, you have to teach me how to fight.”
“No.”
“I have to fight in this war.. it’s the only way.”
“We will find another.”
Before Tara can answer, Nicole looks up at me and there’s pain in his eyes.
“There isn’t one, Killian. She has to be the one to end him. I’m sorry, man.” and without thinking I throw my computer across the room into the wall.
“When you are ready to behave like my mate and our Alpha, you may join. Until then, stay here and have your tantrum.” Tara says to me and then looks to Nicole and Jude.
“Take me to the library and I will help find all the information we need.” and with that the 3 of them leave me office.
I can feel her concern, fear, and a little anger through our bond but my own emotions are so unhinged I can’t do anything about it. By the time I’m done, the office is destroyed. I don’t know how long it’s been but I hear the door open and a gasp. When I turn around, Tara is standing there with her hands covering her mouth. What started as shock and fear when she opened the door quickly turns to rage. She slams the door and storms off to our bedroom. I try to run after her and I’m met with a locked door. Yeah… I messed up. Instead of knocking incessantly or trying to pick the lock, I retreat back to my office and begin the clean up. After roughly two and a half hours of cleaning up the bits and pieces of debris, I finally laid on the couch for sleep.
“I love you, Tara, and I’m sorry for tonight. Goodnight, baby.” I say through mindlink and I’m met with silence. Remus whimpers in the back of my mind matching the sadness and regret combination that I’m feeling. I leave the connection open, praying she will respond, and close my eyes to wait for sleep to takeover.
“Killian.. Killian.. Killian wake up.” I wake up to Tara nudging my shoulder and I’m feeling a bit uneasy by her facial expression and emotions
“We need to talk.” she demands.
“Can I go first?” I respond and she gives me a slight nod gesturing for me to go ahead.
“There was no excuse for my behavior last night. I am the Alpha and I should have kept my emotions in check instead of letting the fear about what could happen to you control me that way. I am so sorry. From the bottom of my heart. I hope you’ll forgive me and allow me to learn from my mistakes so I can be a better mate and Alpha.” I say with a slightly cracked voice.
She was abused by an angry Alpha and I know I brought back memories I never wanted to bring back last night. It breaks my heart knowing what she went through and that I behaved the same way Arthur had. I look into her eyes and the tears are threatening to spill through her lashes.
“Thank you, Killian. I appreciate that apology. I can’t be with someone who reacts that way when their emotions are too big so I need you to work on it or I will have to reject you… even if it means dying from the heartbreak.” she says quietly but sternly. She’s not kidding about this and I don’t blame her. I deserve this.
“I promise, Tara. Never again.” I move to my knees in front of her and grab her hands. Tears are flowing freely and my voice is strangled but she needs to know I mean it. I don’t want to be the reason she has more trauma or make her reject me.
“I love you. So much.” I say laying my head in her lap. I feel her hands come up to the back of my head and after a few minutes of rubbing my head she finally speaks.
“I love you too, Killian. Now let’s talk about getting me trained to fight.” she says gently and I nod my head. I really don’t want her to fight but I know she has to.
Tara’ POV
After hashing everything out with Killian, we sat down in his office with Nicole and Jude to put together a game plan to get me trained. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I would be training in the beginner’s warrior class. Tuesdays and Thursdays I would be training with Killian, Nicole, and Jude. Saturday and Sunday were for recovering and studying to finish my diploma. I feel pretty confident in our game plan and prepared to meet with the Committee of Elders. When they finally arrive at the packhouse, we all head to the conference room because it’s soundproof and there are no windows.
“What is the urgency of this meeting?” asks Elder Zacchaeus sounding a bit annoyed by our calling this meeting so immediately. Nicole slides the book across the table open to my prophecy.
“What can you tell us about this?” he says and the Elders all look at each other with concern before turning back to us.
“Why are you asking?” Elder Simeon asked.
“Because we need to know. A dark brown wolf with wings approached Tara and I while on a run in wolf form two days ago.” Killian said. He sounded very authoritative and stern in these meetings. All of the Elders gasped.
“You met Atlas Brown?!” Elder Zacchaeus exclaimed with a tone of panic.
“Why was he here? What did he want? Speak boy!” he continued and I could feel Killian’s irritation rising to levels of anger so I placed my hand in his, rubbing circles with my thumb on his hand.
“Arthur Godfrey paid him to kill my Luna and I after winning the challenge. That’s why he was here? What did he want? A war with my Luna because she is a WHITE wolf with WINGS.” he says putting emphasis on his words and raising his volume a tad bit. Gasps filled the room and a couple of the Elders stood from their chairs.
“Preposterous! There’s no way! Where’s your proof?!” Elder Abraham shouted and Killian gave them a deadpan look before rolling his eyes.
“Why would I call such a meeting if my Luna could not shift and prove the statements? Please turn around so my Luna may remove her clothes to shift.” he said thoroughly annoyed with Abraham’s outburst.
He gave me a nod and I removed my clothes swiftly before giving Lola control. She sat where I stood with her wings out and I could feel Killian’s pride and love for me swell in my chest.
“Take a look, gentlemen.” he says gesturing to me like he couldn’t be more proud of what is standing beside him.
“Hello, Elders. My name is Lola.” she says to all the Elders through mindlink and they freeze in their tracks. I gasp in the back of her mind.
“I didn’t know you could do that!” I exclaim.
“You can do it too, Tara. We have several powers because good magic flows in our veins.” she says very matter of factly as if this is something I should just know.
“Alpha Killian, what is this wolf’s name?” Elder Isaiah asks quietly as if he will startle Lola if he’s too loud.
“Gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Lola, my mate’s wolf counterpart.” he says with so much pride in his voice I could cry.
“Sh-She just mindli-linked us…” Elder Isaiah says confused and scared all at once. Suddenly Lola opens her link to Killian, Jude, and Nicole.
“Yes, I can mindlink anyone. Even those that are not werewolves. It is one of the many powers Tara and I have.” she says and Nicole chokes on his drink while all of them just stare at her in amazement.
“Your training game plan for Tara and I is flawless and I think it will prepare us well. But… we need someone to help train us on our magic. It’s important to the impending war.” she says and no one speaks for a minute.
“Do you know someone who could do that?” Killian says looking to the Elders.
“My mate has magic and powers that need to be unlocked before this war starts. Do you know someone that can do this?” he says again and all of the Elders shake their head except for Elder Gideon.
“I know a married couple that can help. Give me just a moment.” he says while pulling out his cell phone. He types a few numbers in and puts it on speaker phone. The call rings 3 times and then a woman’s voice comes on the line.
“Hello?”
“Helena? It’s Gideon.”
“Oh, Gideon! How are you, darling?”
“I’m well. Listen, you remember the prophecy about the winged wolves?”
“Of course I do, Giddy. What’s going on?
“The white wolf is sitting right in front of me. She and her human counterpart need to unlock and harness her magic. Can you and Levi train her?”
“Where is she?”
“Mystic Crystal. Alpha Killian can hear this conversation as we speak. He is requesting the help.”
“We will be there tomorrow. Bye.”
“She will have the best witch/wizard duo this side of the country training her in magic. I believe this young lady will do very well.” Elder Gideon said to no one in particular as he stared at Lola.
“Thank you, gentlemen. My men will show you to your room accommodations.” Killian said standing up and shaking every hand.
They all filed out of the room in a line with Nicole in front and Jude in the back. Once everyone was gone, I shifted back and put my clothes on. Killian walked with me down to the kitchen and I decided I would eat healthier to ensure I was in prime condition for this battle. I grabbed a couple waters to drink now and later. I also grabbed couple rice cakes, sliced a banana, coated one side of the rice cakes in almond butter, and then added the sliced banana as a snack. Killian, on the other hand, made himself 2 BLTs with extra bacon and toasted it in extra butter. I just laughed and rolled my eyes playfully. He worked hard enough for those sandwiches not to matter. His body was etched by the Gods themselves.
“I think I’m going to go soak in a bubble bath after I eat this. Could you ask Ms. Shirley to have a plate of grilled salmon, roasted veggies, and a quinoa salad sent to our room for my dinner around 6pm? I’d like to eat and go to bed so I’m ready for tomorrow.” I ask Killian as I eat my rice cake.
“Yes, love. Mind if I join you for dinner?” he asked remembering our fight from last night that carried into this morning. I reached over and squeezed his hand so he’d look up at me again.
“I would be offended if you didn’t come back to the room for dinner and cuddles before we go to sleep.” I said with a small smile and his face lit up.
I finished my rice cake, pecked Killian on his cheek and told him I love him, and then headed up the stairs to our bedroom. Once in the bathroom I turned the hot water on and added some lavender bubble bath. The scent filled the room and I could feel the tension leaving my body already. I threw my hair up in a messy bun after removing my clothes and then lowered my body into the soapy warm water. I leaned my head back thinking about the plan that lay ahead of us. The water water is like a massage to all my muscles and I can feel the darkness creeping in. I take one last deep breath of the lavender scent and wait for sleep to consume me.
Killian’s POV
It’s 6pm and I am carrying our dinner plates up to the bedroom so I can eat a good meal with my mate and get a good night’s sleep before all the training takes over her life. I walk into the bedroom and Tara is nowhere to be found so I set our plates up on the table and head to the bathroom to find her. I find her snoring quietly in a tub full of lavender scented bubbles.
“Hey baby, I brought dinner up. Come eat so we can get in the bed and snuggle you back to sleep.” I say gently while stroking her hair out of her face to wake her up. She nods then begins to stretch and moan causing my d!ck to twitch in my pants. I help her out of the tub, dry her off, and throw one of my t-shirts on her before escorting her to the table to eat our dinner.
“Good choice on the salmon and veggies, baby. Those were delicious.” I say when both of us are finished eating.
“And so much healthier than the other junk you eat.” she says in return with a big smile on her face.
“You ready for bed?”
“Yeah. I’m still really tired.”
“Let’s go get in that bed then.
I turn the bedroom lights off as she climbs in the bed then I climb in beside her. I turn on the TV and play Chopped on Food Network because it’s her favorite show. I lay with my sleeping mate for a while before deciding I need to get some sleep for the long week ahead but my brain is running a hundred miles a minute.
“We have just have to train her to fight like an Alpha. A strong Alpha. She’s going to excel at this and save us all.” I think to myself and it brings me some comfort but panic sets in a little as well. I bury my nose in Tara’s hair and take deep breaths, allowing her scent to flood my senses, and I slowly begin to relax enough for the darkness to overtake me until I’m asleep.
