                    Tara’ POV
It’s been a quiet few months since the wedding. Killian, Remus, Lola, and I have all been training intensively. We are now able to control and use our powers in human form and wolf form. Unfortunately our peace and quiet is coming to an end tonight. We’ve contacted all of our allies and have literally thousands of warriors here to fight for the cause. My nerves are a mess as I remember my previous vision of Atlas killing my mate. The literal weight of the world and existence of all supernaturals is on my shoulders.
“I can feel your nerves, love.” says Killian as he walks into the bathroom where I’m currently bracing myself against the sink starting to have an anxiety attack.
“Come on, honey. Let’s go get something to eat and then nap until it’s time to get everyone in the bunkers.” he says and takes my hand, leading me out of the bathroom.
We get down to the kitchen and the Omegas are hard at work making food to take into the bunker. The atmosphere is tense but they all greet Killian and I with a smile.
“Alpha. Luna. What can I help you with?” says Miss Shirley cheerfully but I can see the worry in her eyes.
“We just came to get a snack before we took a nap.” Killian says and she pulls a couple of plastic wrapped plates from the fridge. She takes the plastic off the plates and warms them in the microwave before giving them to Killian and I. We grab a couple water bottles and bags of chips before we turn to leave the kitchen.
“Alpha, would you please ask someone to set up tables for food and drink and cots in the basement?” she asks Killian and he looks confused s
“That’s not done already?” he asks and she shakes her head. Killian’s eyes turn black in anger and he gives a short nod.
“We go to war TONIGHT and I’ve got these ladies in the kitchen busting their asses to make sure everyone has food and drink in the bunkers but nobody is helping set up tables, cots, and play areas in the basement?! If you’re able bodied you need to get to this packhouse NOW and help.” he says in a mass mindlink to every member of our pack. Miss Shirley nods a thank you before returning to the kitchen. As Killian and I go up the stairs, the packhouse doors fly open and droves of people are flooding in to follow his command.
We get into the bedroom and eat our food before we lay down. Before we go to sleep, Killian decides to make love to me slowly and sensually like we won’t ever get this chance again. Tears escape my eyes as we finish and lay in the bed embracing each other.
“You have to come back to me, Tara… I can’t live without you.” he whispers into my hair.
“You have to stay alive for me too.” I respond trying not to sob and he nods.
We drift into a less than peaceful sleep together knowing when we wake up panic will ensue and we will experience great loss.
*BEEP*BEEP*BEEP*BEEP*
Our alarm goes off indicating it’s time for us to get up and prepare for war. We lay in bed completely silent as a sense of dread washes over us.
“It is time Mystic Crystal and allies. All able bodied men and women assist the elderly and children to the bunker. Help the kitchen staff and house staff get the necessary items to the bunkers. Check all the houses and rooms. Everyone not fighting needs to be secured in the bunker in the next 2 hours or less.” Lola sends out a mind link to everyone in our pack lands using our Luna authority. Killian and I get out of bed, shower, and dress in workout clothes.
The packhouse is in complete chaos but it is organized chaos. Our allies and pack members are in teams helping get the food, kitchen necessities, blankets, pillows, and other general things to the bunker. There’s lines of men and women signing in and entering the bunker. Mates embracing each other and expressing their love before separating. My heart is breaking for my pack and I just hope I’m strong enough to win this war for them.
“We are strong enough. Loss is an unfortunate side effect of war but their deaths will not be in vain.” Lola says in the back of my mind and I sigh. I wish nobody had to die but I would make sure they were honored when this was over.
“What are you thinking about, love?” Killian says tearing me from my depressing thoughts. I give a small smile and shrug.
“My heart just aches for everyone we will lose today.” I say and he nods as he hugs me tight. We help where we can until it’s time for us to gather in front of the packhouse but the despair I feel never dissipates.
Finally, the last few pack members walk into the bunker and it’s secured with a passcode and retinal scanner that only opens for the ranked members. We gather all of our troops in front of the packhouse for the normal pre-battle speech and planning.
Lola pushes forward just enough that we are both in control as we stand on the stairs with Killian. As Killian goes to speak, Lola grabs his hand to stop him indicating she and I would take it from here. He nods at us and steps back behind us.
“Mystic Crystal and all of our allies that have come to fight by our side, tonight we fight. We fight for our right to survive. Our right to live. The enemy wants a world where the only supernaturals that exist are pureblooded werewolves so he can dominate the humans. He will not win. I will kill the enemy and ensure the world remains as is. Some of you will die and it breaks my heart… But know that your deaths will not be in vain as your sacrifice will be ensure the continuation of life as we know it. I pray the fiercest of protection from the Moon Goddess over all of you. Thank you for your willingness fight and sacrifice tonight.” Lola and I say to the thousands of warriors before us.
“Woah.” Killian says and a few pack members echo him. I look around in confusion to see what has them shocked.
“The Luna has magic!” a young man in front says and I am dumbfounded. Wasn’t everyone made aware of who I am and when they signed up to fight?
“Luna… You just cast a protection spell over all of us.” Kaiya says wide eyed.
“What? No I didn’t. I prayed for protection. I didn’t cast any spells.” I said both scared and shocked.
“We have good magic in our blood. We have been blessed from the higher powers of all supernaturals to ensure we win.” Lola says and I gasp.
“You’ve done this before, Tara.” Killian says and I look up at him expectantly willing an explanation from him.
“The day Arthur showed up here to challenge me. You told me to be safe and come back to you. The same warmth that overtook my body just now happened then too.” he says and my eyes go wide as saucers. Maybe, just maybe, we wouldn’t lose as many lives as I thought tonight.
Killian’s POV
When that familiar warmth spread from my chest and across my body, I knew it was something Tara did. When she told me what Lola said to her about all of the higher powers blessing her with gifts and abilities, I was shocked and so was Kaiya. Tara had no idea she had magic or any other abilities other than the ones we trained with.
“Tara? Hold my hands.” I say and she holds my hands while giving me a confused look.
“I pray for the strongest and fiercest protection the Moon Goddess can provide over you.” I say and her eyes widen a little bit.
“Is that what you felt? Like a warm blanket just encasing your soul?” she says and I nod.
“Now you’re protected by the Moon Goddess and good magic as well.” I say with a hint of relief in my voice. It kills me as an Alpha and as her mate knowing she has to fight Atlas on her own to fulfill the prophecy but knowing she has the protection from Gods and Goddesses of all supernatural species brings me a small bit of comfort.
“Let’s get started.” I say stepping off the porch with her hand in mine. We spend our remaining time strategizing our approach.
The witches have put a spell on the perimeter of our packlands so that we will know when and where they breach. The fairies are all positioned in the trees closer to the perimeter with bottles of potions. The vampires are all in the trees closer to the packhouse. Witches and wolves are standing together just waiting in anticipation. A team of a witch, fae, vampire, and wolf are protecting the bunker. We are all linking or talking amongst ourselves since some wolves have shifted and others are still in human form.
“He’s here.” Lola snarls out staring at the tree line. I don’t see anything but suddenly I hear howls and cries of wolves in pain. I sincerely hope the fairies and vampires are doing some damage to his army.
“They did. The fairies and vampires both knocked a good bit of his army out and they’re still going.” Lola says in my mind.
“Lola. Remus and I love you and Tara. Please come back to us.” I whisper to her and she turns to look at me.
“We will always come back to you, Killian. We love you both too.” she says with a soft, genuine smile.
Before I can respond we all hear shuffling in the trees ahead of us. All wolves have their hackles raised and teeth bared snarling at the unseen enemy.
“Well if it isn’t the little white wolf come to die for her species.” we hear Atlas say before we see him. Moments later he appears in nothing but a pair of shorts.
“The only one dying tonight is you, Atlas.” Tara and Lola snap at him. He lets out a deep, evil sounding laugh before responding.
“We shall see.” he says menacingly as he shifts into his big brown winged wolf.
Tara shifts immediately after he does and they both let out howls signifying the battle has begun. Chaos ensues and I lose sight of Tara and Lola. My heart clenches at the realization but I can’t dwell on it long. The sounds of battle surround me. Snarls, howls, hisses, and screams fill the air as does the smell of blood. A rogue lunges at me and I quickly duck down to dodge it. Before he can get on his feet, I allow Remus to take control. He lunges at the sh*t brown wolf and easily pins him to the ground. One swift move rips the rogues throat out and another rogue launches themselves at Remus only to be killed instantly. I’ve never seen Remus on such a killing spree.
“I’ll kill everyone if it means protecting Tara and Lola!” he snarls as he rips through another rogue.
“Hey, I’m not complaining or disagreeing. Do what you have to do.” I say back.
Since he’s in control I sit back and wait for when I take over but I can’t help the question in my mind.
“Where’s Tara?”
