Killian’s POV
“We need to talk about the Luna.” Dr. Singh said solemnly and my heart wrenched. I nodded.
“I’ll take care of the services.” I say barely above a whisper as tears stream down my face.
“Services? Alpha… The Luna is in the recovery room alive and well. She’s still unconscious from the surgery but she’s alive.” she says gently as she places her hand on my shin. My head snaps up and I begin to pull the wires from my body.
“Alpha! We need to talk. Please stop and listen.” she says firmly as she stands from her seat at the foot of my hospital bed. I lean back, running my hands through my hair and nod for her to continue.
“Tara DID code on the table. She did technically die for 3.5 minutes but we brought her back. I don’t know why it happened but she hemorrhaged so terribly when we removed Princess Amira that we had to remove her uterus. Alpha… the Luna will no longer be able to bear pups.” she says and I nod. So I’ll only have these two pups. That’s fine with me so long as my mate is alive.
“She is alive though?”
“Yes, Alpha. Would you like to move your bed into the recovery room with her?”
“Yes.” and with that Jude and Nicole wheel me in my bed down to the room where my babies, my family, and my mate are resting.
My mother and sisters are sobbing over Tara while the twins sleep peacefully in the bed with her. Jude and Nicole connect my bed to the side of hers and I scoot as close as I can to her. I breathe in her delicious scent and feel the sparks as I caress her arm.
“We don’t know how long she will be out but having you and the pups with her should accelerate the healing process. Let me know if you need anything. Alpha.” Dr. Singh says with a smile before exiting the room.
I look around the room to find my family’s expectant eyes on me. I sit up on the bed and explain my outburst and what the doctor told me. My sister and mother are crying and my dad has tears in his eyes as well. Tara has no idea how very loved she is.
“Wait. Before everything happened, patrol said they found an injured she-wolf in the woods of our territory. What’s the status on that?” I ask Nicole and Jude. They give each other a look as if a silent conversation is taking place before Jude shrugs his shoulders and hangs his head before we continue our conversation.
“What is it, guys?” I ask curiously.
“Nothing Alpha… it’s just that girl.” says Nicole, proving he is a bad liar.
“What about that girl?” I ask in a low growl as I get irritated with the run around my Beta is giving me.
“Well…” Nicole starts but is quickly interrupted by Jude.
“She’s my mate, Killian.” he says and I smile.
“Congratulations man! What’s her name? How is she?” I ask quickly with a large smile but his somber expression does not change.
“Why are you upset that you found your mate?” I ask sensing I did not know the whole story.
“I’m not upset I found her, Alpha. I’m upset with her condition. Her body is covered in bruises and cuts. She’s in a coma and when they arrived, her whole body was so filthy I didn’t know what color her hair or skin was!” he says loudly with tears in his eyes.
“Brother, go be with your mate. Your Luna is safe.” I say to him and he nods before quickly leaving the recovery room.
“I’m gonna head back to the packhouse and get some rest. Link me if you need anything.” Nicole says and I smile while giving him a grateful nod.
I lean against Tara and kiss her head. Breathing in her scent brings such peace to my soul.
“I thought I had lost you, love. I thought we had lost you.” I whisper as I gently rub Everett’s face with the back of my finger.
“I need you to wake up and come back to me, Tara. My heart and soul are broken without you. I love you.” I say as I squeeze her hand. I snuggle in as close as safely possible to my mate and pups before taking a deep breath of her scent and letting my body succumb to the exhaustion.
Tara’ POV
The last thing I remember was seeing Killian holding our son before darkness consumed me. I can’t see a thing wherever I am. It’s pitch black and eerily silent.
“Hello?” I yell only to be met with my own echo.
“Is anyone there? I don’t know where I am!” I shout with a shaky voice.
“It’s okay, my child. You’re safe.” says a voice I’ll never forget. Selene. She materializes in front of me and I start sobbing.
“I’m dead, aren’t I?” I say through my tears, unable to meet her eyes.
“You are dead but you will not remain dead. You have too much to do. But your body needs to rest.” she says and I nod in understanding.
She waves her hand to show me an image of Killian’s parents holding my babies but Killian is nowhere to be seen.
“He’s currently in a coma. He felt you die and they had to sedate him and Remus to save the hospital.” she says and my heart aches at the thought of my husband being so broken.
“Will I wake up soon?” I ask and she simply nods before disappearing again. I take a deep breath and close my eyes for what felt like 5 minutes when suddenly I hear the sound of my babies crying. I open my eyes and I’m blinded by the bright lights. I groan and raise my hands to shield myself from the lights. I smell the incredible scent of fresh rain and cedar wood before I hear his voice.
“Shut the lights off. Baby? Tara?” he says in a very shaky voice and I manage to nod before squinting and blinking until my vision clears. My poor disheveled mate is sitting on the edge of my hospital bed. Tears and exhaustion fill his beautiful blue eyes. The dark circles under them seem to match and his hair is a mess instead of it’s normal slicked back man bun. His facial hair looks wild and unkempt.
“How long was I out?” I ask him through the mindlink and his tears flow freely at the realization I was communicating with him.
“You’ve been unconscious for a month, baby.” he responds out loud and my eyes widen. I missed the first month of my babies lives.
“You haven’t been taking care of yourself.” I say through the mindlink again and he shakes his head no.
“Can I have some water?” I link once more and he quickly fetches a cold water bottle. He brings it to my lips and the icy liquid brings life back to the desert that’s taken up residence in my throat. He stares at me expectantly as I drink and clear my throat.
“I love you.” I say to him and he crashes his lips into mine in such desperation and need it takes my breath away. We kiss until our lungs are burning for oxygen and he puts his forehead against mine.
“I felt you d… I thought I lost you. I have never been so scared in my life.” he says in a shaky voice as his warm, salty tears leave his cheeks and mix with my own.
“I’m so sorry, baby. I’m right here. I’m okay.” I say as I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him down. His face rests in the crook of my neck with his arms around my waist and I lean my head on his enjoying his embrace. We stay like this for about an hour before a small cry brings us back to reality.
“Let’s bring those babies to meet their mama.” he says as he places a kiss on my cheek and moves to get the babies. I push myself up in the bed and he reaches into a pack n play set up across the room, lifting my sweet baby boy. He’s dressed in a blue dinosaur sleeper and matching hat.
“Everett…” I whisper through my tears and his eyes begin searching for me. As soon as Killian places him in my arms, he reaches up and touches my face with the cutest baby smile I’ve ever seen. A warm feeling of peace washes over me but I don’t think anything of it as I savor this moment with my boy.
“Huh. He hasn’t smiled one time since you’ve been asleep. He’s been waiting for you.” Killian says kissing the top of my head before heading to the other pack n play and bringing me my princess.
She is head to toe decked out in Minnie Mouse attire and I just smile. Killian places the still sleeping baby in my other arm and shoves some pillows under my elbows to help me support their weight.
“My sweet Amira.” I say staring at her and her eyes immediately begin to flutter open. As soon as her eyes lock with mine she smiles as they slow the same pretty green color her eyes are.
I gasp and so does Killian but just as quickly as the glowing appeared it disappeared as well. A couple moments of silence pass and before either of us are able to speak, in walks Dr. Singh in her normal chipper fashion.
“The Alpha told me we have an awakened Luna on our hands. Let’s check you out.” she says and I hand the babies back to Killian. She runs through all the normal tests for paralyzation and checks my vitals: Everything comes back normal until she checks my C-section incision.
“Luna, do you have the ability to heal yourself rapidly?” she asks and I shake my head no. She steps out of the room and grabs the portable ultrasound machine leaving Killian and I confused.
She leans me back and squirt some jelly on my flat belly before moving the wand around to look at the screen.
“Well I’ll be damned…” she says sitting back in her seat as she looks at the screen.
“What is it?” Killian asks impatiently, pulling her from her very distracted thoughts. She leans forward and apologizes for her rudeness.
“Luna, Killian already knows but we had to do a complete hysterectomy to save your life after Amira was born.” she says and I nod my head in understanding even though my heart breaks at the thought of never having another child.
“I don’t know what or how but not only is your incision completely gone all the way through but your uterus and ovaries have grown back.” she says again in disbelief showing me everything on the screen. All of us sit in a stunned silence before it dawns on me. My kids healed me.
“Oh my Goddess… it was the babies.” I say looking at Killian remembering Amira’s eyes and the warmth that washed over me when Everett touched my face.
Dr. Singh looks between us confused so I fill them both in on both experiences and we all agree that the babies were likely responsible. After a long conversation and an oath of secrecy, she leaves the room and Nicole enters.
“The she-wolf is waking up, Alpha. Welcome back, Luna!” he says cheerfully as he walks in with a huge smile plastered on his face.
“Thank you, Nicole. What she-wolf guys?” I reply and Killian signs.
“An injured girl was found unconscious in the woods and hasn’t woken up until now. She is also Jude’s mate.” he says and I send a quick link to the nursing staff to take the twins to the nursery. I get up and get dressed in the bathroom before walking to the door and staring at them expectantly.
“Well? Come on. We are ranked members with a duty.” I say and they both stand to follow me out the door. Nicole leads the way to a room a few doors down from mine and when he opens the door we’re met with a terrified girl with her knees to her chest on the bed and Jude in the chair beside the bed with tears streaming down his cheeks.
“Hi, I’m Tara. Luna of the Mystic Crystal pack and this is Killian, my mate and the Alpha. This here is Nicole and he’s our Beta. The young man next to you is our Gamma, Jude, and from what I hear, you’re his mate.” I say gently with a soft smile.
“Can you tell me your name?” I asks and she nods.
“M-m-my n-n-name is H-h-Hannah M-m-madden, Luna.” she stutters out.
“It’s so nice to meet you, Hannah. Can we sit and talk?” I ask and she nods again.
“Hannah, what happened to you? Why were you in the woods?” I ask gently and she begins to shake.
“Our Alpha’s twin sons were furious that we weren’t their mates… They forced us to… and beat us bad so we ran as soon as we could. We weren’t as healed as we thought though.” she says.
“Honey, who is we? We only found you.” I respond and her eyes widen in terror. She tries to scramble out of the bed and we stop her.
“My twin sister is out there! Janah is still out there!” she screams and the guys immediately get up. Killian sends me a link letting me know they’re going out to search for the sister with some warriors. I let Hannah know and she sobs with relief. I put my arms out to hug her and she accepts my comfort without hesitation. She sobs into my arms as I pet the back of her head and try to soothe her.
“Don’t you worry, sweet girl. They’ll find your sister and bring her home.”
