** Four years later **
Tara POV
“Time to train, pups.” I say through mind link. They can’t link yet but the fact Tara and I can mindlink literally anyone has proven itself to be a very beneficial gift.
I hear the sounds of running feet and laughter coming down the stairs and shake my head as I smile.
“Are you chasing them again?” I ask Killian through our link.
“Well duh. I’m the big bad wolf and I gotta gobble up the children, honey.” he says with such playful sarcasm I can’t help but laugh.
Before I know it Amira, Everett, and Killian are running circles around the large coffee table in our living room. After watching them for a little while, Kaiya walks in the room and laughs. The kids snap their necks in her direction and take off, no longer interested in “the big bad wolf”.
“Auntie Kaiya!” they screech as they bombard her with hugs and she embraces them tightly.
“What about daddy?” Killian says and we all laugh at him. I stand up and walk over to Kaiya before turning to Killian.
“Come on ya big bad wolf. It’s time to train our pups.” I say as we turn to walk to the same training facility I used just 5 years ago.
“It feels like a lifetime ago that we were walking out here to train you.” he says as he walks up beside me and interlocks our fingers.
“It really does. We’ve come so far and been through so much together.” I reply and he squeezes me hand in acknowledgment.
Upon entering the training facility, we see Kaiya has already got Everett and Amira running laps around the building. Pack training includes a five mile run in human form and a five mile run in wolf form so Kaiya has them running 2.5 miles in their human forms. They would do more if we let them, they love the exercise. I notice a man standing almost to Kaiya and almost as if on cue, she looks at me and smiles. She brings the man to Killian and I. He doesn’t appear to be a bad man. Lola isn’t sounding any alarms so I decide to be open minded to his presence.
“Kaiya. Who is your friend?” I ask politely.
“This is Reuben, your Majesty. He is here to help me with the young Prince’s telepathy powers. I thought King Killian and Reuben could work with the Prince while you and I worked with the Princess.” she responds excitedly. I smile and nod at her.
“It’s nice to meet you, Reuben.” I say with a smile and shake his hand.
“The pleasure is all mine, your Majesty. The supernatural world owes you a great debt. It is my honor to help train your son.” he says with a slight bow as he holds onto my hand. After a few minutes, Kaiya calls for them to stop running and they both come right over to where we are standing.
“Good job, guys! You’re so fast!” I praise them while kneeling down and giving them hugs.
“Fastest pups in the pack!” Killian says offering his hands up for high fives. Everett and Amira smile brightly and give him high fives before turning to Kaiya. Amira looks straight at Reuben and tilts her head to the side.
“Why is your air yellow?” she asks and I look over at Reuben confused.
“What do you mean, Princess?” Kaiya asks while side eyeing Reuben.
“His air. All around him. It’s yellow. But not bright yellow. It’s a darker yellow.” she says as she uses her finger to trace the frame of his body in the air.
“What does that mean?” I ask sternly and Killian squares up behind me.
“Kiddos would you mind going over there and starting on your agility course?” Kaiya says and they both run away.
“You better start answering some questions.” Killian says leaving no room for argument.
“Did the Moon Goddess say she was going to give the young princess the power to read auras like a soul witch would?” Kaiya asks completing ignoring the tone of his voice and tension in the room.
“No. Just super strength, super speed, accelerated healing, premonitions or visions; whichever you wanna call them, and power replication. But why is that important?! Is that what she did?! Why is his aura dark yellow?!” I say in a whisper shout.
“Maybe that’s it. Maybe it’s just power replication. Anyways… why IS your aura yellow, Reuben?” she asks pointedly. He gestures to the room and when she simply raises her eyebrows lets out a heavy sigh.
“You just asked me to help train the next Alpha KING of the supernatural last night and think I’m not nervous and overwhelmed, Kaiya?! My aura is probably a muddy yellow because I’m ordinarily a fun and playful guy but I’m stressed at the moment.” he says as if that was something she should have already known.
“Is that true, Kaiya? Is that what the muddy yellow means?” I ask her for confirmation and she nods.
“You’re going to do just fine with the Prince. The King is going to be right there to help you. You’re not going to ruin the young Prince.” she says exasperated by him and his mood.
“Just go. We don’t have time for this. They need to train.” she says and points away from her. Killian and I look at each other and nod before kissing each other and parting ways.
“Are you okay, Kaiya?” I ask and she sighs.
“Yes, your Majesty. I’m okay. I just didn’t know he was so nervous.” she says and I nod my head in understanding.
“You know. It’s okay if he’s nervous. He’s training MY pup and if he hurts him or does something to cross us he’ll pay with his life so it’s justified.” I say with a shrug causing Kaiya to laugh.
“What’s so funny?” I hear Amira ask as she skips over to us.
“Nothing baby. You ready to get to work?” I ask her and she nods her head in excitement as she jumps up and down.
“Okay Princess. First I want you to show me if you can still use the power you replicated from your mom yesterday.” Kaiya says and sure enough Amira is able to conjure an energy ball causing me to gasp.
“She keeps the powers she replicates. She might even be more powerful than you once she is marked and mated, your majesty.” Kaiya says with her eyes wide. My heart is almost in my throat and I can feel the tears welling up. I don’t want this for my daughter. Moon Goddess… WHY?!
“You keep working with Kaiya, Amira. I’m going to go check on Everett.” I say and quickly excuse myself. I speed walk across the facility and immediately burrow myself in Killian’s arms once I reach him.
“What’s wrong, love?” I hear his deep, comforting voice in my head.
“She keeps the powers she replicates, Killian. She has the potential to be more powerful than I am when she’s marked and mated. That terrifies me. I didn’t want this life for her.” I say back and he squeezes me tightly.
“Are you okay, mama?” I hear Everett ask behind me as he tugs on my shirt and I squat down to kiss his forehead and hold his hands.
“Yes, my sweet boy. I’m perfect. Just needed some love from your daddy. Wanna show me what you’re working on?” I say with a smile so he doesn’t know of my inner turmoil. He places his little hands on my face and a bright glow emits them suddenly curing my sadness and anxiety.
“You don’t have to be afraid, mama. Mira will always be safe. We were born for this.” he says before turning to walk back to Reuben. Reuben is staring at Everett with his eyes wide and mouth open just like me. I look up and Killian is doing the same thing.
“Kaiya, did you see that?!” I shout via mindlink at her as I look over and she simply nods with wide eyes.
“Everett? Baby, how did you do that?” I ask as I walk over and kneel in front of him.
“I don’t know. Kase told me how to do it.” he says with a shrug.
“Kase? Baby, who is Kase?” I ask looking past him to Killian who has eyes the size of saucers now. He’s thinking what I’m thinking and I could just puke.
“He said he’s my wolf.” Everett replies and it’s as if the whole world disappears from around me. Goddess have mercy. Not only does he have some form of healing ability, he already has his wolf.
“Kaiya… please bring Amira here.” I link her and wait. I sense Amira close before she speaks and turn around to her.
“Sweetheart I have a question and I need you to answer honestly okay?” I say and she nods in acknowledgment.
“Do you have another voice in your head?” I ask gently and her eyes light up.
“You mean Nova?!” she shrieks in excitement.
“Who is Nova, baby?” I ask for confirmation and she lets out a frustrated sigh.
“Kase’s sister! She’s my wolf. Our wolves are twins like we are!” she exclaims and I nod my head. I stand up and look at the other 3 adults surrounding me.
“I think that’s enough training for right now. Run on back to the castle.” Kaiya says and the pups take off. Once they leave, the silence grows louder by the second until Reuben breaks the ice.
“So what I’m gathering is that they have powers we didn’t know about and their wolves came 11 years early. Is that right?” he asks like he can’t believe what just happened either.
“That’s what I thought.” he says after we all nod in silent disbelief.
Before my emotions get the best of me, I turn and walk out of the facility towards the castle. I quickly make my way to my bedroom and sit on my bed. Killian walks in a little while later and sits in front of me. One look in his eyes and the dam breaks. I collapse against him in erratic sobs.
“I just wanted them to have an easier life than I did.” I wail into his chest but he says nothing. He simply rests his head on mine and rubs my back soothingly until I let everything out. The sobs slow down to hiccups and Killian pulls back to look at me.
“Are you okay, love?” he whispers and I shake my head no.
“Let’s talk about it.” he says and before I can respond he continues.
“Our pups have wolves. That’s cool. We will have to watch to make sure they don’t shift because that first one hurts.” he says and I nod.
“And they developed new powers. That’s scary but also pretty cool. I know it worries you that Amira retains replicated powers but think of how awesome it is that you’ll share those with your daughter.” he says and I just look at him confused.
“Killian, I’m not jealous or feeling inferior about sharing my powers or my daughter being more powerful. I’m terrified because more powers are going to develop. They haven’t shifted yet. Their wolves will have powers. This is only the beginning.” I say and his jaw drops.
“I didn’t even think about that.” he replies and I resist the urge to face palm myself and him.
“Did… did you really think I was upset over her being stronger than me?” I ask incredulously and he shrugged.
“You walked away without a word. I didn’t know what to think.” he says and I just nod.
“You gave birth to the blessed wolves of the Mystic Kingdom. That’s unreal.” and I let out a shaky sigh.
“The blessed wolves of the Mystic Kingdom.”
